Original Byrd Man Posted April 19, 2009 Share Posted April 19, 2009 Excellent point. But a couple of times they did strike gold for their OL in the later rounds or free agency back in the 1980's. Such as when they drafted House Ballard in the 10th round one year, and they signed Kent Hull as a USFL FA back in 1986. But overall yes, they have basically ignored the OL on Day 1 of the draft for the past 20 + years. The team has seemed to do better with free agents for the O line. Although RB was a perenial probowler, he and Fina were never considered more than above average. And we won't even mention MW. Other than Bruce have had a lot of klinkers on the D line as well. Maybe the answer is in numbers. If you draft 5 Oline men 1 or 2 may turn out to be good. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Max997 Posted April 19, 2009 Share Posted April 19, 2009 Since 1987 (22 draft classes) the Buffalo Bills have only drafted (3) THREE Offensive Lineman in the first or second round. With two #1's and one #2 it will be very interesting how committed the Buffalo Bills are the offensive line. 2002 1st Round Mike Williams 1995 1st Round Ruben Brown 1992 1st Round John Fina Something gotta give! i could be mistaken but i think you can go even further and say they havent drafted many in the third round either with Jonas Jennings being the only O-lineman coming to mind drafted in the 3rd round Mike Williams was such a mistake, McKinnie should have been the pick Brown was solid and helped rejuvenate the Bills running attack at the time Fina was drafted to be a guard and would have been a good one if he got the chane but he was forced to play tackle after the Bills lost Wilford because of that ridiculous loophole Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Michael Johnson, There is not a quarterback that moves in the AFC east 2. Herman Johnson, Put him next to Langston, slide Butler to the left side. 3. Chase Coffman, Another toy for the offense. Buffalo can fix there offensive line early in this draft. With the additions of TO and Rhodes, they both have proved that they can score points. They can still use more defensive help granted. The Bills have demonstrated a tremendous wisdom when drafting for the OL although not sure why they would need to pick an OL when they have Bell and McKinnie ready to go (someone may want to tell them its Seth, Bryant though) so I am confident that whoever they pick will be an uber-stud who far outplays his draft position All that talk about Oher and Smith being fat and unmotivated is just a diversionary tactic.
