Watching today's game should be a reminder of being careful about falling in love with Trent Edwards' game. Of the things you hope to see improvements in '09 is his ability to command the field and be more aggressive. Smart game managers will carry their teams to the playofs, but will inevitably fail once they meet playoff opponents. Pennington is now 2-4 in the playoffs, looking very ugly in the 4 losses.

Can anyone really say they're in love with Trent's game, or just Trent himself? His game has been awful and only the blindest of homers wouldn't admit that.

And as I've said, the Bills will only go so far as Trent takes them. He needs to look downfield more. Whether he can do that remains a complete mystery, one which the Bills can't assume will be unraveled on its own.

Brad Johnson

Rex Grossman

Tom Brady in year 1

... those are just recent superbowls, im sure there are many more if we look back at conference championships

I wouldn't call Johnson a "game manager" in the year the Buccs won the SB. He played in 13 games that season and threw 22 TDs vs only 6 picks, with another 5 TDs in the playoffs. Yes, tampa bay was known mainly for its defense, But Brad Johnson was a huge reason that the Buccs finally got over the hump that season.

As GG said, theres a difference between a "game manager" like dilfer, and a decent QB who played lights out for 1 or 2 seasons (Rypien, etc)
