My Mock Draft (w/trades) Round 1

Recommended Posts

#1 Oakland Raiders select to trade the pick to the San Francisco 49ers for this year's 1st and 2nd round picks and 2008's 1st and 3rd round picks.

At #1 San Francisco 49ers (via Oakland)select Calvin Johnson / WR / Georgia Tech - Alex Smitth has NO ONE to throw the ball to except Vernon Davis and Gore out of the backfield. This would immediately give them one of the premier core groups in the NFL with Gore, Johnson, and Davis. Alex Smith improved alot last year and this would only help in his development. They would then have Lelie starting on the other side (nothing special, but enough to require some safety help because of his speed) to help open up their whole offense.

#2 Detroit Lions select Jamarcus Russell / QB / LSU - Millen finally siezes the opportunity to do something right by taking the Lions "Franchise QB".

#3 Cleveland Browns select Adrian Peterson / RB / Oklahoma - He will split with "J-Lew" for a year to learn the offense and be cut loose as the Browns featured back in 08'.

#4 Tampa Bay selects Brady Quinn / QB / Notre Dame - John Gruden will still be sniffling over Calvin Johnson, but will get the QB that he wanted atleast. Quinn will learn the system with all of it's ins and outs from a seasoned vet in Garcia and be named the starter in 08'.

#5 Arizona Cardinals select Joe Thomas / OT / Wisconson - The loss of Leonard Davis is now an upgrade to a younger, more athletic tackle who will lock down the LT position for years to come.

#6 Washington Redskins select Gaines Adams / DE / Clemson - Snyder will try to trade out of #6 until the end, but will have to take the picke because Peterson went off the board at #3 to Cleveland. Adams will be an opening day starter in 07'.

#7 Minnesota Vikings select Laron Landry / S / LSU - This is a guy who can provide run support and cover a slot receiver 1-on-1. A definite upgrade for the Vikings at the S spot.

#8 Atlanta Falcons (via Houston)select Jamal Anderson / DE / Arkansas - Kerney is gone and Anderson could fill the void. He's big, strong, and surprisingly athletic for his size.

#9 Miami Dolphins select Levi Brown / OT / Penn St. - They need an OL and a quality LT is a good start.

#10 Houston Texans (via Atlanta)select Leon Hall / CB / Michigan - This is a position that they don't have any real talent. None like the package you get with Hall anyway. He's Big Ten tested and an All American. One of 07's opening day starters for Houston.

#11 Oakland Raiders select Amobi Okoye / DT / Louisville - Al Davis has got a plan with his extra picks and Okoye falls into his lap at #11. Sapp is almost 34 and on the downswing in his career. Okoye will fit perfect. The first pick in the 2nd will be Trent Edwards. The QB that Davis has been eying other than Russell.

#12 Buffalo Bills select to trade the pick to the Tennessee Titans for their 1st and 2nd in this year's draft. I know you guys are going to scream over this one

At #12 Tennessee Titans select Marshawn Lynch / RB / Cal - Lindale White is eating himself out of a job and Tennessee is in need of a RB. If they hold off until the 2nd or 3rd round the other couple of guys they would want will probably be gone. Lynch is a pretty physical specimen at 5'11" 215lbs. "VY" and Lynch will be Tennesee's version of Batman and Robin.

#13 St. Louis Rams select to trade the pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers for their 1st and 2nd round picks.

At #13 Pittsburgh Steelers (via St. Louis)select Patrick Willis / LB / Ole Miss - The Steelers released Joey Porter and when Buffalo trades out of the #12 spot, they POUNCE on Willis as quick as possible. Willis will play Porter's vacated LB spot for the Steelers and quickly become a fan favorite.

#14 Carolina Panthers select Greg Olsen / TE / Miami - This guy will make the all rookie team and if Steve Smith stays healthy, maybe the Pro Bowl. He has great speed, great hands, and is a decent blocker. He makes an immediate impact for a Carolina offense if their "all world" WR can stay healthy because Smith will open up holes for Olsen.

#15 St. Louis Rams (via Pittsburgh)select Darrelle Revis / CB / Pitt - The Rams pick up an extra pick and still get the guy they had #1 for their slot on the board.

#16 Green Bay Packers select Ted Ginn Jr. / WR / Ohio St. - The Packers are a little upset that they didn't have Lynch fall into their lap, but they'll get over it by drafting a WR who will be another speedy target for Favre and a KR as well.

#17 Jacksonville Jaguars select Adam Carriker / DE / Nebraska - Del Rio will be extatic that Carriker falls into his hands. He's just a Del Rio kind of guy. Big, strong, and versatile for the Jags DL. He will line up as a starting DE in 07' until one of their tackles go down to injury and then he will slide to a DT spot. They improve their defense once again.

#18 Cincinnati Bengals select Reggie Nelson / S / Florida - They could go Alan Branch here, but I don't think Marvin Lewis would put up with his laziness. Nelson would help to improve a shakey pass defense and be an immediate starter for the Bengals.

#19 Buffalo Bills (via Tennessee)select Paul Posluzny / LB / Penn St. - We increased our # of picks which gives us the option of trading up again if someone else we covet is still on the board late in the 1st and still get a LB who will undoubtedly start from opening day in 07'. He is a "Marv" kind of guy. Crowell will play the MLB spot, Poz will take over back at his natural OLB spot, and we will be drafting another LB later on to rotate with him and Ellison.

#20 New York Giants select Jon Beason / LB / Miami - They need help at LB and Beason is their answer with the 20th pick.

#21 Denver Broncos select Dwayne Bowe / WR / LSU - They got Javon Walker last year via Green Bay and Rod Smith won't play forever. Shannahan is setting Cutler up for success in Denver.

#22 Dallas Cowboys select Aaron Ross / CB / Texas - Jerry Jones gets a hometown player with alot of upside. Ross is the best corner available and this would allow them to move Anthony Henry to S if they would like. They're pissed that Nelson and Bowe are off the board, but they still get a guy who can help them in 07'.

#23 Kansas City selects Robert Meacham / WR / Tennessee - They need a WR and Meacham is the best guy available. He put up huge #'s at Tennessee this past season with 1,298 yards and 11 TD's in the nations best conference, the SEC. He will start opening day opposite of Eddie Kennison.

#24 New England Patriots (via Seattle)select Chris Houston / CB / Arkansas - Asante Samuel is trying to push his way out of New England and Houston would slide right into his vacated slot. He's a fast, physical CB who would turn out just fine under Bellicheck's tutelidge.

#25 New York Jets select Jarvis Moss / DE / Florida - They're disappointed to not get one of the 2 CB's they were hoping to land in Ross and Houston, but may have found their next "John Abraham" in the process. Younger and at a cheaper price of course.

#26 Philidelphia Eagles select Michael Griffin / S / Texas - He could be a force in their secondary. They already solidified their LB core by adding Spikes. Griffin would be able to learn from one of the best in Brian Dawkins while bringing the same physical nature to the other S spot. Could turn out to be a great pick for them a couple of years down the line.

#27 New Orleans Saints select Dwayne Jarrett / WR / USC - The loss of Joe Horn was a blow to the team regardless of what they believe. But put the talented Jarrett with Colston and Henderson? Uh-huh. The Saints fans will be saying "Joe who?"

#28 New England Patriots select Anthony Gonzales / WR / Ohio St. - And the Patriots just keep going and going and going.

#29 Baltimore Ravens select Joe Staley / OT / Central Michigan - Has all the tools to be a good NFL OT for a long time. Ogden is getting old and the Ravens need to start looking towards the future. They will continue by going with a LB in the 2nd round.

#30 San Diego Chargers select Brandon Siler / LB / Florida - Donnie Edwards is gone and Siler has the potential to be just as good. They really wanted another WR, but none are worthy of this pick. Siler may not be either, but they will get a player with tons of NFL potential.

#31 Chicago Bears select Lawrence Timmons / LB / FSU - Lance Briggs wants out and may hold out. Timmons could step into his slot. Has alot of upside because of his closing speed and agility. He would fit well into the Bears "Cover 2" scheme.

#32 Indianapolis Colts select Marcus McCaully / CB / Fresno St. - Another "Cover 2" guy that Dungy will be glad to have in the mix. Look for them to get a LB with their second choice in the draft.

It's possible that none of this could happen at all of course, but it was pretty interesting to speculate. I bet you that I get more right than "Draft Guru" Mel Kiper. Let me know what you guys think

Overall its not far fetched.. i can see that happening just because of how crazy drafts always seem to end up but i got one beef....

Alan Branch?? where is the big daddy at?? there isn't a position in the league with as much need as DT and he is that NT run stopper everyone looks for.. he is a top 12 pick for sure!

Branch is a "play when I want to" kind of guy. I think that makes him drop out of the 1st.

Agree about Branch. There are only about 3 NT's in the draft, and the other two possess nowhere near Branch's skillset. The other two are Day 2 picks:

Paul Soliai (RD#3B or 4) 6’4” 344 lbs., Started all 24 games. Among DT’s, 3rd in 20-yard dash.

Louis Leonard 6’4”, 320 Fresno St. (RD#4 or Phantom-5) A true run stopper – Consistently gets a good push. Shows a good swim move. Uses hand fighting well to get free of OL's and stop the ballcarrier.

Who will play QB for Cleveland this year? They need a QB much more desperately than a RB. They will not win with Charlie Frye at QB. I say they take whoever is left between Russell and Quinn.

1) Don't over-rate Lewis. I'd prefer another HC, here in Cincy. He's a proven game-day dud, but will play out his contract same as all B'gals coaches. Owner Brown won't give up a thin dime and won't buy out a contract...

2) The CIN defense was lights out until their LB corps, and SS got wiped out after game #3. As well as 4 games lost by a starting CB - O'Neal.

No doubt Nelson is in their sights. Rookie phenom Madieu Williams had a less-than-good recovery from injury last season, and got exposed by the LB injuries. SS Kevin Kaesviharn led the NFL in int's by safties, but he scooted to another club.

Their DL actually played well 4th round rookie Peko was impressive...but the collapse of the LB corps had more to do with their lousy run D showing.

They lost FA DT Shaun Smith to CLE. He wasn't a flashy player, but was a DT that could not be moved. He served the purpose.

I think they would be ecstatic if Branch fell to #18. They certainly consider Nelson, Hall, Poz among others.

Not a bad mock draft. But is there such a thing as a good one

My only beef is you have Pitt giving up a 2nd to move up 2 spots in the mid first. More like a 4th or 5th rounder. Or Pitts 1st and 2nd for StL's 1st and 3rd

You mention the Bears taking Lawrence Timmons. I have been reading many of the Preview Magazines and would like him to be Buffalo's pick. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't mind PosLusny (sp.), but if he's a good fit for the Bears isn't he a good fit for the Bills as we play a similar shceme?

My question is this: Why is Poz a better fit for the Bills than Timmons?

There is more than 2 QB's in this draft. I think that they would address that in the second or third round of the draft. You have Kevin Kolb from Houston, MAYBE Trent Edwards from Stanford, John Beck from BYU, and don't forget about Troy Smith from Ohio St. I kind of gotta feeling that Smith is going to end up in Cleveland in the later rounds. The people of Cleveland would rally around the guy like no other. There are definitely plenty of options for Cleveland to think about.
