I will admit that it does seem that teams are placing higher value on safeties as of late on day 1 of the draft. At the same time, I make the case that blockers are more important to a football team than are safeties, and that guys who can block will always take priority over safeties by teams that win football games. A good comparison might be to examine records of the football teams who selected safeties in the top 10 as opposed to those who reached for safeties.
