How About A List Of Players To Draft Per Position

I basically look at positions I perceive the Bills to have a need at and then write down as many good choices as possible per position, regardless of what round they're projected to be selected in. "Ejamacated" guesses on the Bills needs and the players that would fit our team. Most based on notes I made during the college season and the all star games and practices I viewed. Plus some sharp analysis from our scouting friends at Ourlads.

QB - None, although a middle round flyer on McNeal of Texas A&M is tempting, if we aquire extra picks in a trade down.

WR- We're down to 11 - None

RB - All the good ones are gone after Round One - None

TE- Davis is definitely tempting but if he's gone before #8 - None

OT ( LT) - Ferguson should be gone. Whitworth of LSU is a possibility if we trade down in Round 1 or a shocking pick at #8. Maybe Scott of Texas in the middle rounds but he seems to be sliding.

OG - Jean Gilles of Georgia, Lutui of USC, Spencer of Pitt and Joseph of Oklahoma are the 4 Guards who could step in and start immediately. 1 or more will still be there with our 2nd Round pick. Anyone selected after that would need time.

C - Will Montgomery of Virg. Tech may be hanging around on Sunday and be a sharp Day 2 selection. 6-3 312 3 year starter and getting better every game.

DT - 1st 2 Rounds - Bunkley of Florida St., Watson of Michigan,McCargo of NC State, Oshinowo of Stanford, Lewis of Virginia Tech.

Middle-Late Rounds - Adams of Nebraska, Mahelona of Tennessee, Smith of Nebraska, Paxson of Penn St.

DE - Middle Round pass rush specialists - Wyche of Syracuse, Gocong of Cal Poly, Tapp of Virginia Tech.

ILB - Day Two Only - Schlegel of Ohio St and Robinson of Arizona St.

OLB - Middle Rounds - Jon Alston of Stanford and Terna Nande of Miami of Ohio are perfect Cover 2 LB's with speed.

CB - Depends on what happens with Clements. Only if he's traded on draft day does this come into play. A deep position.

S - There are 6 that could play immediately - Huff of Texas, Allen of Tennessee, Simpson of South Carolina, Watkins of Florida St. , Whitner of Ohio St. and Bullocks Of Nebraska. All may be gone by Round 2 or early Round 3.

Conclusion - The only hope I have is that the Bills don't pass on a starting Guard in Round 2 but we'll see. I haven't a clue how Round 1 or anything else will fall in this Draft, despite all the mock drafts I've read. Anyone can project and throw darts.

It's all a guess but there's some of the players that fit this team and could really help us. DT has lots of choices, so I won't be in full panic if we don't have one selected by the end of Round 2. I'll pass on Ngata.

Flame away.

It's a good approach. Let me try my hand at it.

QB - Middle round - Erik Meyer. He's the only QB I would consider drafting. I consider him to be the second best QB prospect in this draft behind Leinart, and Leinart would obviously require a trade up and ignoring the lines so that's out of the question. I've said before that a middle or late round QB is still a possibility b/c I believe none of the triumvirate of Losman/Nall/Holcomb would be happy as third string, and I believe it's a possibility that we trade the one that will be third string for a 2007 draft pick midway thru training camp to a team that needs a backup or possibly even a starter due to injury. Meyer can then assume the third string role--as a rookie, it'd be a more natural fit.

RB - Middle-round guys like Mike Bell (whom the Bills have contacted for a private workout), Jerome Harrison, Leon Washington, Taurean Henderson. Need to be able to catch the ball. But ONLY if we trade down to get more picks. This is a luxury.

WR - None

TE - Davis (#8), Mercedes Lewis (extra second round pick), or none. Honestly, though, our crazy binge on WRs leads me to believe that TE really isn't going to be featured very much in our passing game. We're going to go 4 WR a lot on passing downs.

OT - Ferguson, obviously, if he slips. Justice after a small trade down. I love Daryn Colledge as an LT prospect, late first, early second.

OG - 2nd round. Spencer is my favorite. Joseph next. Middle round, I like Tony Palmer a lot, very underrated.

C - Mangold, although I believe we think we already have a starter that we signed in FA.

DT - I prefer not to draft one early. 2nd round - Love Wroten. McCargo 3rd round - Mahelona, Lewis. Late round - Anthony Montgomery, highly recruited out of high school, underachieved during college, a player Jimmy Johnson would take a change on, boom or bust.

DE - 2nd round (if we acquire another one via tradedown) - Mark Anderson, Parys Harlson, natural passrushers. Middle round - love James Wyche as well as the LDE prospect.

LB - Nothing until late.

S - Middle-round - Danieal Manning, Pat Watkins

CB - Nothing until late.

TE- Are you kidding me this draft is te deep. Guys like Marcedes Lewis, Leonard Pope, Dominque Byrd, Tim Day, Anthony Fasono There are several other te's other then Vernon Davis who I'd love to have.

OT- Whitworth lacks the athleticism needed to play lt at the nfl level, He's strictly a rt. Plays nasty though so if we move Jason Peters I could see this. I just dont see many true lt's in this draft. Guys like Whitworth, Trueblood, Jonathan Scott, McNeil. O'Callaghan I could live with

DT- Theres a lot of dt's s but if not bunkley the only other dt's I'm interested in are McCargo, Wrotten, Lewis, Malehona, Orien Harris, Le Kevin Smith, Barry Coefield. but getting 2 dts out of this draft is a must.

DE- Other then the most obvious I like Mark Anderson, Ray Edwards, Tapp, Dumervil, and Wyche.

ILB- This might be a bit of a risk but for a later round pick if this guy can ever stay Healthy Kevin Simon could be a tremendous ILB in the nfl.

OLB- the two you named Nande and Alston other then that I'll add Clint Ingram, Omar Gaither and Cameron Vaughn who could play either inside or outside in the nfl as he did both at lsu.

I'm well aware TE is deep in this draft. I don't know if we would look beyond Davis, who is a rare player. That's all I'm saying. Too many other needs.

Whitworth will play LT. Many of those others you mentioned are strictly RT's and cannot move. Trueblood is a prime example.
