Where have we heard this before: But Jauron was an uninspired choice. Levy pushed hard for him. He has a home in Chicago and broadcast Bears games when Jauron was coach. There's also an Ivy League bond: Levy went to Harvard, Jauron to Yale.

 

Sounds similar to Donohoe being comfortable with Mike Mularkey.

 

Compare Jauron's record with Shermans:

 

Sherman seemed well-suited for the role. In his first five seasons, the Packers went 53-27. He was 7-1 against Jauron. The Pack reached the playoffs four straight years, 2001 to '04. They were 2-4 in the postseason, but that's a lot better than 0-0 - the Bills' record under Tom Donahoe.

 

And sure enough, they took the wrong guy. The Golden Boys could have hired Mike Sherman, a proven winner with a strong offensive background and experience as a general manager in Green Bay. Instead, they went with Dick Jauron, who went 11-21 in his last two seasons as the Bears' coach and fielded some of the most inept offenses the league has seen in recent times.

 

Bills passed up on John Fox and Charlie Weiss.........Once again the "inept" Bills organization took a step backward............This team is 5 years once again from being playoff contender............The glory days are gone forever!!!!!!

That's how it works in the NFL. GM's pick coaches they know or are familiar with. It happens with virtually every organization.

 

That's why, I believe, you don't have many minority HC's in the NFL. Once you have more minority GM's or more GM's with close ties to minority HC's, then you'll see more minority HC's. GM's like coaches they know.

 

I also think Marv liked Jauron because he reminded him of himself--smart, laid-back, cool. Who knows? This could pan out.
