Bills Fans

I have been a season ticket holder the past two seasons in section 332. This season, I moved over in the Rockpile section, because I couldn't afford the more expensive seats because of college tuition.

Throughout this year, I have been thoroughly disappointed in the Bills fans in the Rockpile section. Week in and week out, it is full of ignorant drunk Bills fans who constantly are looking for trouble / to fight. I am even more disappointed that these so-called Bills fans are directing their anger toward other Bills fans. For instance, last game my buddy brought his little brother (age 17) to the game, and he got heckled and stuff thrown at him the entire game just for wearing a Buffalo Bills Tie Dye shirt. My freind and his brother later got thrown out of the game for arguing with the hecklers after being hit in the head with peanut shells. As my freind and his brother were escorted out of the game, the entire Rockpile section cheered - and the hecklers remained at the game.

At age 22, and being a die hard Bills fan and season ticket holder for many years now, I was never more disappointed in Bills nation. For the first time, I really felt that it wasn't fun to be at a Bills game. I realize heckling is part of the fun of a game, but I find it more appropriate to direct it toward the other teams fans (aka the Carolina Panthers). I went to the Bills vs. Chargers game and got heckled the whole game and really did not care, becuase I knew it was justified.

I was wondering if any of you guys on TBD had any thoughts on this, and how your sections are. I am graduating next year, and am thinking about making a long term investment in season tickets for the Buffalo Bills. However, yesterday was a low point for me as a Bills fan, and I don't really foresee myself staying in the classless "Rockpile" section. I know many of you probably have children, and such activity must be hard to deal with at the games.

I have a split of seasons with a friend who lives in Pittsburgh. We have seats in the Jim Kelly Club. I love it. I have sat in the end zones, the upper deck etc. and feel there is no better place to watch a game than the JK club. There are plenty of kids, most people watch their mouths and fans of opposing teams get heckled, but good-naturedly. For my money, going to only 4 games a year, the JK is worth every penny because I have great seats and enjoy the game without the accompanying BS.

It's a league-wide phenomenon with roots in a couple of things, one being the thug mentality some owners have adopted after the success of the Raiders in exploiting two fans bases and unbelievably coming away stronger (from a merchandising standpoint) for it. Another thing is that disposable fan income is so much higher than in the early days of the franchise- you can ask the old-timers here about their first years after hitting 18 years old and the "game budget" that back them might have allowed for a third beer- if you were giving up something else during the week. These are not items that are likely to be fully correctable but there could be some measures taken to reduce their frequency.

I was thoroughly disappointed that the section they decided to call the Rockpile was really the white trash section. ;)

I hope some other TBDers can direct you to a relatively inexpensive but friendlier place.

Two suggestions:

1. Next time report the heckler(s) to security - do NOT argue with them - they are already past reasoning. You were unfortunately guilty only by association (from what you describe). The ones cheering as your friends were escorted out may have been on the same bus trip.

2. Are you close to the field? I remember one of the wildest games I went to, in terms of total loss of control, was in a low row in the center of that end zone. Fights all around us, but I have a knack for avoiding trouble and have not been directly "attacked". One other time I had seats in the lower end zone visitor's side. I was with a Jets fan friend who wore their colors but behaved. The Jets won that day, and no one bothered him. Go figure.

It is a crying shame that this goes on in ANY venue, but happening at a Bills game makes it feel personal.

I have only attended 3 games this season in my seats, but I definitely agree about the types of people in our section. At the opener, I actually had to restrain my dad from confronting a group of ~22-25 year olds that were messing with a teenager a few rows in front of them.

i think section 203 has been good all season. Most off the problems seem to be 2 sections over under the tron.

I drove from the Boston area for the 3rd straight year with my daughter! I don't know what other stadiums are like but my take of a large portion of Bills fans is that they are drunken buffons who should spend a bit more energy on their grooming! I fully realize that thye are the exception to the rule but it's large exception!

It's really quite sad to see and a bad reflection on the area, in my opinion! I was in section 104! What is the consensus on that section?

In The Buffalo range there is a guy who brags about the violence in this Rockpile section! Great!

So...either buy better tickets or don't go.

It's as easy as that.

It wasn't terrible at the last game that I was at (ATL), but for the opener, you could tell that a lot of people drank entirely too much.

You are correct though, about the section to our right - that is where the guy allegedly got stabbed during the ATL game.

Technically, you were not in the Rockpile then - we are the 200 level section, right below the Wall of Fame, in the scoreboard endzone.

Thanks! I was not and, luckily, only had one loudmouth around me! What is "the Rockpile" anyhow? I saw the signs for it but could nto understand the "theme"!

I have heard fans in other areas are not exactly poster boys for their city's reputation too, but I could be mistaken. :D

My guess is that this phenomenon is in many places, including here in the Boston area!

Where were the Panther cheerleaders? I didn't see them!
