End the Kickoff! (Effectively End It, That Is)

I’m not coming here trying to “victim blame” or anything, but it’s football... how many people have had serious injuries from a kickoff, 2-3???? These men know the risks, and they are paid handsomely to play a kids game.... you eliminate kickoffs, punts will follow, then they wear flags and the game is changed forever.... how can we eliminate the tearing of ACL’s???

I'm certainly not the first person to notice that the cost/benefit calculus of the kickoff is way out of whack:

As for the benefits provided by the kickoff:  I think you'll agree with me that there was plenty of scoring in the Bills-Saints game.  Yet ... 3 kickoff returns in the whole game, all by Tate, 21 yards per return, 29 longest. In other words, 10 scoring plays in the game (8 by the Saints). 10 kickoffs, 7 of which included no action whatsoever. 10 kickoffs, 20 minutes of extra commercial breaks (40 if you add the post-score/pre-kickoff break), declining ratings ....

Just my personal opinion- leave the kickoffs alone- they have already moved the kickoff to reduce the number of returns in an effort to compromise...
