There are a lot of bad articles and as a result threads all the time about unfortunate stuff. It's nice to have one that focus on good things. This group of guys saw a tragedy and a moment to step up and help their community. Good for them.

PORT CLINTON — They saw smoke.

They ran over and, with adrenalin racing through their veins, rescued two women in wheelchairs from a fire.

But now that five Port Clinton teenagers have had time to reflect on the heroic actions they made Saturday night at the Rose Acres residential facility on Madison Street, one of them believes the heart-pounding experience made him “grow up a little bit.”

The blaze, reported to the Port Clinton Fire Department shortly after 9:30 p.m., began when a clothes dryer in one of the units caught fire. The facility, owned by Ottawa Residential Services Inc., provides housing to elderly and special-needs residents, Port Clinton Fire Chief Kent Johnson said.
