Wow, no. He was a total bust for SD, not to mention he played in a 3-4 defense his entire pro career (Schwartz's scheme is the polar opposite), as a supposed pass rusher. He has 11 sacks in a very disappointing and injury riddled career.

The fact that SD cut him, when he was due to make very little speaks volumes.

I don't know if this had anything to do with it, but he never struck me as a 3-4 guy coming out of NIU. He played exclusively in a 3-point stance in college, and excelled as a pass rusher. Trying to make this guy an every-down LB was a mistake IMO.

That doesn't mean I'd sign him, but rather that I think his only chance at success is in the role of a situational pass rusher.

I'd like to point out that English isn't like the other 1st rounders the Bills picked up on defense. Hughes, Lawson, Rivers, and Branch were all slightly disappointing prior to joining the Bills compared to their draft spot...However they were all still productive players.

English is more comparable to Maybin in his disappointment as a pro.

Well said. They have grabbed first round talents with second or third round production....

11 sacks in 5 seasons for a rush specialist is wouldn't make a 100 man roster for the bills...
