Who's in? Who's Out for week 1

The NY Jets will be without a big force on defense as Sione Po'uha isn't ready to go this week.

The Jets have suffered a blow on defense two days before their opening game on Sunday. DT Sione Po'uha will miss the divisional matchup against the Bills, Rex Ryan said. The veteran DT missed nearly all of training camp with "back tightness" and essentially did not return to practice until this week. Early in camp Ryan said he was not concerned about Po'uha's injury lingering, but lately had expressed some skepticism. Po'uha told reporters this week that he would play vs. Buffalo, but Ryan said he wanted to play it cautiously and make sure the DT got on the practice field. Kenrick Ellis will replace Po'uha at nose tackle.

"He's close. He really is close. He's begging us to play, but I think we're just going to be smart," said Ryan.

The defense will also be missing S Eric Smith (knee), ruled out earlier this week. Ryan said he believes both will be back for Week 2. On the flip side, it appears that TE Dustin Keller (hamstring) and DT Mike DeVito will be good to go on Sunday.

Unfortunately Kenrick Ellis has looked pretty good every time I've watched him, losing Po'uha doesn't really hurt them.

So Pears is supposedly starting right? Despite missing the whole preseason?

"When the Bills’ offense takes the field Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium, it will do so with a center coming off a torn ACL, a right tackle who is still battling back from surgery on his groin, and a right guard who sat out Wednesday’s practice because of a sore back. “Look how many different combinations of offensive lines we had last year (eight) and we protected pretty well,” said Erik Pears, who returned to practice this week after missing most of the preseason with his groin problem. “It’s not going to be perfect every year. It’s pretty rare you’re going to have the same five all year; guys have to step in and play.”

This is true, but it certainly isn’t ideal that before the Bills have even played a game, they have three players — Pears, Eric Wood and Kraig Urbik — who won’t be 100 percent at the start. And factor in that they will have rookie Cordy Glenn playing what is considered the most important position on the line, left tackle..."

It most definitely hurts them. When po'uha gets tired, Ellis replaces him. Now, when Ellis gets tired and he will, he's a big man not used to playing starters minutes, who replaces him? It hurts them undoubtedly. Po'uha is a good player.
