Gotta love when Democrats are foiled by their own Wedge Issue

Recommended Posts

Some of our dimmer posters were fooled into believing that Gay Marriage is a civil rights issue. It is not. It is a political wedge issue that was drawn up in a political office by people who get paid to win elections.

While there are some aspects of Gay Marriage that point out obvious potential civil rights concerns, that is absolutely NOT the reason it was raised, and made into a huge meme. It was made a major issue by the various political operations of the Democratic party in response to losing the 2004 Presidential election. The intent was to gain House and Senate seats. While some gains were made, there were financed at great cost to the gay rights movement. Their issues have been significantly set back by all of the state laws/constitutional amendments banning gay marriage, that were the direct result of this wedge being put forward. That IS the history of this issue. Denying it is denying reality.

The suckers helped this issue along, we hadn't called BS as a nation on the leftist OUTRAGETM machine, and therefore it was maringally effective. House and Senate seats were gained. However, when you deploy a wedge, now you have to own it.

The trouble with owning things is you have to maintain them. Then Biden comes along. See this. In brief, it starts with a bunch of tweets of various WH reporters pointing out that Biden has now publicly contradicted the President regarding SSM. SSM, is the newly stylized name change for Gay Marriage, market tested, and analyzed, of course. As if we needed further evidence of this being a purely political tool for the left.

I wonder: will our dimmer posters still argue that this is civil rights issue in the face of the obvious political machinations on display in the link above?

But, really, who cares? Both they and their argument would be irrelevant, if it wasn't for the...Hilarity. The funnies words are also the truest: "Hilarity Ensues" Yes, hilarity indeed for me. Hilarity, for anyone who wasn't duped by this.

Biden's and others remarks certainly gives the impression the administration is relaxing its gay marriage stance. But is it smart or not?

Best case scenario for the Obama campaign is if gay marriage supporters take these comments as a winking endorsement from the White House, and leave it at that. It’s a bit risky at this point for the president to personally come out in favor of gay marriage, particularly when many black Democratic voters adamantly oppose it. He wants to avoid that if he can lest his position alienate a key constituency (he’s already in trouble with seniors), but maybe he can’t avoid it.

Like Chuck Todd says, the less “Wall Street money” Obama takes in, the more important “gay money” and other fundraising sources become. Beyond that, if the economy continues to stall, The One will become increasingly desperate to change the subject — so much so that he might prefer to roll the dice on backing gay marriage in hopes of creating a sensational distraction. It’d be a risky play, but if the new post-austerity Europe performs the way everyone expects, the odds of the U.S. economy recovering before November will deteriorate and he’ll be a very long longshot to win.

A culture-war campaign could be his Hail Mary pass. Anyone seriously believe it would work, though?

For now, he likely hopes that message has been subtly transmitted to gay rights advocates through Biden’s remarks, because as we know, (because he accidentally told us), after the election Obama will have a lot more "flexibility" on certain controversial issues. Gay marriage, anti-missile defense, deficit spending, you name it.

The Week

Joe Biden's calculated ploy to suck up to gay marriage advocates

Pundits are racing to cast the vice president's embrace of gay marriage as a gaffe. But make no mistake: It was a deliberate political gambit

The theory in his article seems thin, until I realized that what he was saying is that Biden is such a huge dumbass, that the WH actually created a narrative by having Biden specifically say something with the sole intention of explaining it as Biden just being a dumbass again.

"Okay, here's the plan. Joe, we're going to have you say something about gay marriage, and then pretend it was just another dumbass thing coming out of your mouth because everyone knows your a dumbass, okay?"

As someone who works in public relations, I can tell you that at times, social media can turn into a nightmare.

I see your argument- the politicization of this is appauling (sp). At some point, if handled properly, it will be fixed as far as the civil rights issue. At some point, it will be handled properly.

Just a question on the meme.....does that involve Beaker, from the muppets?

Know Your Meme

Edit: As someone who works in PR, are you trying to tell me you don't know what a meme is?

Well, you better learn, and quick. A meme could prove more fatal for one of your clients than any news story. Reason: ones hopes that a news story is prepared by a qualified journalist. A meme is prepared by a troll. A news story is designed to inform. A meme is designed to offend, insult, or marginalize.

In the case of the gay marriage meme: insult social conservatives, make them appear offensive to reasonable people, and marginalize them and their candidates as haters.

Well, there were a lot of people who were too dumb to recognize this as a wedge issue last time, wasn't there?

Pretty sure we can count on them being either: dumb enough to fall for it again, or, to prideful to admit being duped last time around.

Hail Mary pass is the right way to characterize it, though. It can work...but rarely does.
