Its Official: Donte Whitner Is a Bust!

Recommended Posts

Whitner played well today...doesn't usually did today

Sure, to his credit he played alright today. Still not a difference maker or playmaker. Making a slight improvement over average is still not great.

I won't give Byrd a pass either. He's not good against run, we all know that. With Byrd not making plays, then he is just another average safety out there next to Donte.

A bust is a Mike Williams type player. Whitner is a starting saefty in this leagueand although not a Troy P or Ed Reed he is a starting safety and will be for a decade....that is NOT a bust. Far from it. M Lynch is NOT a bust. David Carr is a bust, Akili Smith is a bust, J Russell is a bust, Tim Couch is a bust, Harrington is a bust and they were all the 1st or one of the 1st few picks in the draft. Half the top 10 players in EVERY draft are average NFL players. D Whitner has played and started for close to 5 seasons and if/when he goes to another team he will start as well b/c he is a pretty good NFL player. He was the only one making tackles today. When your front 7 is putrid and you have absolutely no pass rush it makes it very tough to be a very good safety. Did he make a TO today?

Its obvious Donte is not a playmaker like the elite safeties. He is not even a punishing tackler. Average against the run, just pathetic in coverage playing over the cornerbacks. I don't even consider him to be up to the caliber of a starting safety in the league. Pathetic performance today.

Marv's debacle as G.M can be summed up with this one pick.

P.S. Maybin is a total non-factor. :wallbash:

Whitner is not a bust, that is going to far. He has started alot of games in the NFL and can at least play. He were 2nd against the pass last year. We would bring a draft pick if we put him up for trade. If we released him he would be grabed in less than a hour. he has flaws and is best suited at free safety were he doesn't play run support. Busts are players like Maybin, Flowers who go in the first round but can't even get on the field then are cut in their 1st couple years of the original contract signed. Mike Williams was cut because he was too expensive to play RT at 6-7 million a year. I would take Mike Williams at RT over Green anyday, he just couldn't play LT.
