What if a "big name" doesn't come?

Sounds good on paper. But when the season's over there's gonna be a run on the head coaches and GMs. So if you go after a GM first, by the time he gets hired and working, the good coaches will be gone. Go for both at the same time.

That's why I stated right after DJ got fired that a new GM should be in place before the last three games. I guess we've got one week left to do the right thing.... but, Ralph don't give a crap about reshaping the organization. He'll continue to "play" us like a violin.

How many "name" guys want to coach in a small market with no starting QB, a poor OL, strong safeties playing LB, and a nonagenarian for an owner who is known league-wide as the meddling decision maker. When RW said signing TO was a commitment to success I laughed and wondered: does he really have a handle on what's going on league wide?

Go ahead and call fans who recognize these items as negative, but if you don't think they factor into where that "name" guy goes you're fooling yourself.

I have this sinking feeling that we'll hear the Bills tried and it didn't work, so they had to fall back on a retread. Frankly, trusting 91 year old men to rebuild a franchise is worse than wishful thinking, it's insanity.

good post. the answer to your first question is "no one". this is easy. until long term ownership is in place, no one you've ever heard of is running this team...

If RW doesn't get a "big name" guy with his $10 mil, or more/year, and he says he has to "settle" for another (cheaper) guy, will he use that left over money for a new GM/front office types, or new players?

The Bills need to be in control of their own destiny.

With all due respect to Shanahan, if he wants to wait until the end of the season so that he can field the best offer FOR HIMSELF, then the Bills need to move ahead and make the best selection FOR THEM as soon as possible.

No one should be bigger than the club. Anyone holding the organization in limbo until he can get the sweetest deal for himself should not be part of the equation.

Rather than a Big Name coach, I truly want Ralph to step back, hire the best GM available, and allow that GM to go to work.

I don't care who that GM hires as coach (as long as it is NOT Martz or Billick), providing that the GM brought in knows what he is doing.

A GM can't be hired until after the season ends, unless he goes after someone currently unemployed. So anyone complaining that he hasn't interviewed for any GM's yet, we really can't get someone until their season is over.

get down to basics. "Big Name" isn't the solution (can you spell Bledsoe, TO, etc?) The team starts at the top and that's the GM or head of football operations (Spell Pollian or Butler? Actually I'm not sure I'm spelling it correctly.) The GM should do what John Wooden did at UCLA. Bring the whole staff in and teach them how to put on their socks and tie their shoes. Then find a coach he is comfortable with...who will bring in the players and show THEM how to put on their socks and tie their shoes. Draft and acquire to build a team from the trenches back. Get players who want a superbowl ring and will make every sacrifice to get one. Get the whole operation on the same page. Its not brain surgery, people.
