  1. OR maybe the game plan dictated that they run more against KC. Maybe they would have run more against Jets if they wouldn't have fallen behind and Defense would have made some stops. Maybe just maybe they planned on running more. I was completely pissed when Fitz ruined those drives by pulling the ball down and running for first downs. He's an idiot for doing that and what a crappy decision maker. Those last resort passes to Chandler and Stevie for TD's were purely a product of a clock being right twice a day. This guy Fitz is a complete jerk for embracing the Buffalo community, being accountable for himself and his play, having the respect of his teammates and busting his butt to win every week. I think we should all turn on this jerk of a neighbor, good father, husband, leader and football player. He's ridiculous. I totally can't stand him throwing for almost 4000 yds with broken ribs and never making an excuse last year. I thought it was just swell when we would have a 300 yd. passing game every 12 or 13 games. This guy Fitz is an idiot. He stinks. We need to all turn on him and waste our time complaining about him. Who needs guys like this on our team. We definitely should have drafted RG3 or Andrew Luck with a draft pick we didn't have. OR maybe we should have given up a couple of number 1's for a veteran guy like Carson Palmer. These scenarios really are plausible and make sense. I am very thankful that there are posters that have inside knowledge of what Coach Gailey is thinking and that he has told Fitz he is inadequate as a leader of men and as a QB. Thus they have decided to turn to that long lost , deceptive art of running the ball b/c we have nothing better than a department store mannequin as QB. Thanks for setting me straight so now I know what it means to be a real fan. I am grateful.

This post really pissed me off.

  2. I like Stevie.... I just wish he didn't drop so many balls. I have also noticed he tends to fall down before the tackles come.

I guarantee he is glad the other big signings are distracting people from ranting about his dropsie problem still going on....

Get real dude. He is fine, Fitz just can't get the ball to him, either on target, or on time. If he played with Aaron Rogers he would be tearing up the league.

  3. I take a lot of heat for being a doomandgloomer/"realist"/pessimist here (although the ritual mass seppuku being committed here this week by the typical homers is amusing--amatures!).

But I've seen enough of Fitz to feel there is something in there that will turn it around and limit his TOs while returning the offense to a level which will prop up this pathetic D. He's smart, he has guts (he's absolutely and by far the ONLY tough guy on this candy-ass IR laden team) and he's nothing like JPL and RJ, who were brain dead, soul-less disasters who never really showed any reason for hope.

I have faith in Fitz because I have seen him play very well, and so have you. I say he plays well enough to save Chan's job next season. This will be bittersweet--great for Fitz, awful for the rest of us. Chan has been an awful choice. One terrible decision after another.

But, here's to Fitz! Starting this Sunday. He won't guarantee a win (he should), but I will.

I love Fitz, the guy, but have finally come to accept that his flaws are just too limiting. I certainly believe that he can put together some nice performances this season, and maybe save Gailey's job. But I would rather have Gailey stay, and Fitz go.

  4. 1. Lack of toughness

    2. Fitzpatrick

    1. In an interview on BuffaloBills.com Eric Wood was asked questions about the problems the Bills are having. He fairly clearly stated that he felt the team has gone soft in the 2nd half. Initially, he stated that they "laid down". Prior to this all of what he said backed this up. Because "laid down" is a strong term, a reporter called him out a bit and said "laid down is a loaded term, what do you really mean by that?" At that point Wood backtracked a bit and said he didn't think they quit. Translation of all this: The team quit and has gone soft. Eric even went on to say that there are leaders in all the position rooms and he does not feel it is his place to call out players in positions other than O-Line. He said something like it is not his role to call anyone out on the defense (strongly hinting that the defense has gone extremely soft).

Think about this. The NFL is a really physical league and putting emphasis behind all of your hits and bumps leads to a lot more pain on Mondays. It really does take a lot of mental toughness to fight hard throughout an entire game and this team is not displaying that toughness. That is by far the Bills biggest problem.

    2. Fitzpatrick obviously has not played well and it is fairly clear that he is a game manager at best. And when you're not even sure if he is good enough to be a game manager, you're in trouble. I hold just a little reservation on this because at the beginning of last year he showed an ability to really light it up. I'm talking he was carving defenses up drive after drive at times. However, I do not think that was his true quarterback self manifesting. He is not a good NFL quarterback and very likely never will be. Some of his misses are very costly and should be easily executed by an NFL QB.

    The Hope:

    1. Somehow, somebody rips into the softness of this team and somehow they get tough. Kyle William might be a good guy to do it. I think there is talent on this team and if guys play hard and tough, I think the results would be a lot different.

    2. The defense keeps the Bills in games and this allows Fitz to be a game manager. Occasionally, he shows flashes of early 2011 to get us back in games.

I really think these are the two biggest problems. The toughness might be fixable. The QB thing has to be addressed in the offseason. Until then, hopefully Fitz can at least be average and consistent.

Exactly how I feel. I have hope that the defense will get better, and expect them to have some good games. Fitz I have no hope for. We have seen his best, and it's not enough.

Th defense is lacking motivation more than talent. I would normally say that people complaining about Wannstaedt being up in the booth, and needing to "get in their face" were being silly, but the way this team falls apart, I think he needs to be with them if only to get a better idea of how they are feeling, and what is going on on the sidelines during these collapses.

  5. Anyone who screws up puts their numbers in a hat. Draw 1 number from the hat. Cut the player who's number was selected.

That would add an element of accountability, fear and randomness. Sure it would kill morale but I don't think it can get much worse that it already is.

But seriously players need to be held accountable and need to play with some type of desire and motivation

That's not fair, there would be guys stuffing the hat with their number. Do you really think lots of these guys wouldn't rather play somewhere else? Do you really think Mario Williams wouldn't mind being a free agent again?

  6. Anyone that thinks the Bills shouldn't use their first pick on a QB is blind. There is no one player that can turn around the defense. The offense on the other hand, is being held back by the play of ONE GUY. Get a competent QB and the deficits of the losses will at least improve. Then get to work on the defense. The Colts (granted they have a highly touted rookie), had the 28th ranked defense, and set a record for completion percentage allowed last season. Their defense sucked. This year they are on the rise already.

Bickering about what to do about this season is just an exercise in futility. There is no savior QB bagging groceries that they are going to bring in. No out of work coach that is going to turn the team around this season. It's done, and it's "going through the motions time" again.

  7. He must be a troll.

I understand the math, No, they aren't mathematically out yet. But based on what I have seen, and based on the history of the team, and based on the history of the league, the likelihood of a team that has suffered these kinds of losses, after losing 7 in a row the previous year, and 8 straight the prior season, with the same coach, and the same QB, the likelihood of that team suddenly turning it all around and making the playoffs is SLIM.

It's a painful thing to accept that your team is out of it after week 5, but you will get there.

Is it the players or the scheme to put them to success. Sure they don't have play makers at the LB position...but that front four is supposed to be dominant. This is simply poor coaching.

Ganesh, I respect many of your posts, but that picture of Eric Wood is so bad that it's painful to look at. He is one of my favorite players, and I think it would do more honor to him if you changed it.

Ganesh, this is more than bad coaching, it is also bad throwing. Very bad throwing. And there is no one available to throw it better.

  8. The thing that bothers me about the defense is when it appears that the players are confused. When they get pushed off the line, or otherwise beaten physically, it's troubling. But when they just blow coverage or misplay a runner, it feels like they don't know what to do. When A. Williams bit on the move, and circled around the opposite direction that the WR made his move, it was ridiculous. He ended up 10 yards away from the receiver.

  9. I know, I know, just change the QB and all will be ok. The Bills will end up 13-3 if Fitz is benched. What was I thinking.

Are you related to Fitz? Is he your next door neighbor?

Fitz isn't the only problem, and if you feel the defense is the biggest problem I understand. But Fitz is THE guy holding back the offense that scored 3-points. He gets the ball back whenever the other team scores, and he isn't putting up points (regardless of how poorly the defense is playing). He is BAD, and it has to effect the morale of the team.
