  1. True, Lincoln could just put his feet up and relax while those petty issues of a Civil War and slavery worked themselves out. Where was his "Crawford ranch" again?
  2. Served in the Illinois State House, opposed a popular war, and only served one term in Congress. Barack Obama? No, Abraham Lincoln. I guess you don't think he was a good president.
  3. If you're a governor, and you know a crime has been committed and you don't report it to the proper authorities, you would not be upholding the laws of your state that you took an oath to uphold.
  4. Anyone know the age of consent in Alaska? Wouldn't Palin be bound by her duty and have to call for a statutory rape charge if the daughter was underage? How old's the guy?
  5. I wonder what the reaction would have been if Obama had a 17 year old daughter in the same situation. Would the conservatives be so forgiving as they are with Palin, or would we be hearing about how this is what happens when liberal parents don't teach their kids proper values, and is this the kind of leadership Americans want for its children and education system, one that results in teen pregnancies? If they can't lead their own children, how can they lead the country? I'm just wondering.
  6. Palin didn't even get a passport until 2007. I didn't think there was any national politician with less interest in foreign policy than Bush before he became president.
  7. Should be an interesting debate about how successful conservative parenting is in preventing premarital sex, with regards to not teaching sex education and preventative measures.
  8. The hurricane was a blessing in disguise for the Republicans. It gave them an excuse for Bush and Cheney to not appear at the convention, which helps McCain because it's a couple of less obvious reminders that he wants to continue many of their policies, and why the Republican brand is tarnished.
  9. She might teach it to her kids, but that's her own business. The issue is that she advocates it being taught in public schools.
  10. Will Sen. Larry Craig be attending and giving tours of his memorial bathroom stall at the airport?
  11. I'm curious as to what the reaction will be from those Conservative / Republican men who can't support the idea of a woman as president. Will they now stay home on election night?
  12. Women who are pro-lifers weren't going to vote for Obama anyways, this is a play for Democratic Hillary supporters, the majority of whom are pro-choice. I'd be for letting just women vote on abortion rights, since they're the ones more affected by it. Most mothers are more involved with the daily upbringing of kids, especially 4 kids including a baby, then most fathers. I commend them for that. But having all those kids AND being president takes it to another level. I'm quite happy with the pick, I think it weakens McCain's chances. And it puts more emphasis on the fact that today McCain turned 72.
  13. Let's see, I supported Hillary but I'm sexist, and I support Obama but I'm racist. That makes alot of sense. It's a legitimate question to ask if a woman with 4 kids, one a baby with Down's Syndrome, can really devote the proper time and energy needed to take care of them AND be the leader of the free world. I'll be interested in hearing her response, as I'm sure it's a question other women will ask. They know better than most men how hard being the primary caregiver is.
  14. Well, the foreclosure debacle has also affected Colorado. Nice, the first Hitler reference of the day.
  15. I noticed she threw Ted Stevens under the bus when she talked about turning down the Bridge to Nowhere. I'm sure his opponent in the Senate election will make a note of that.
  16. I listened on the radio. Wow, she sounded like a woman who just won the Publisher's Clearinghouse Sweepstakes. Better than Qualye, but not much. Limbaugh is praising it, saying McCain has taken the women's issues. Really? If she backs McCain's proposals, is that what working women want? Opposition to choice and equal pay legislation? The more I think about it, the more I like this pick (for the Democrats). She's a woman who doesn't support policies Democratic women want. Hillary can go out and campaign against her with ease. And what kind of family values is it to transplant 4 kids, including a baby, to Washington to serve as VP? Which 3am call will she take first, the one about an attack, or the baby needing a diaper change? Do you really think someone with a baby makes a good potential president? I think some stay-at-home women may have a problem with that.
  17. The war was over after Saddam was defeated and captured. Everything after that has been an occupation. It was not 'cut and run', which gave the impression that we would pack up and be gone in a month. The timetable was the carrot and stick to force the Iraqis to get off their butts and make some decisions and reconcile. And Biden's plan may eventually end up what happens anyways after we leave. Ethnic groups want their own autonomy. Look at the break-away regions in Georgia. People would rather be the big fish in a smaller pond.
  18. After serving in the Illinois House of Representatives, he only had one term in Congress. Barack Obama? No, Abraham Lincoln. Bristol and Track, obviously a pander to the NASCAR voters. Willow and Piper, a pander to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer youth vote. Trig, either a pander to gun owners, mathematicians, or Roy Roger fans.
  19. If Obama wanted to pander to Hillary holdouts, he would have picked Hillary. Biden is more than a foreign policy expert, there aren't many other Democrats who are better qualified to be VP and a key advisor to the president. You can't say the same about Palin compared to other Republicans.
  20. Depends on what night she speaks. Whoever gets stuck speaking on Thursday has to go against the opening NFL game between Washington and the Giants. Not the best scheduling plan.
  21. He was quite specific on his proposals. How much detail do you expect in a speech? "I will take 3.27 million from the Farmers Pig Slop Nutrition Fund to pay for the 2nd grade Reading is Fundamental Project". Nobody gives that type of speech from either party. He reminded Democrats what was at stake this election, and why we can't afford another term of Bush policies. He fleshed out what he meant by "change".
  22. Obama's assets are under $5 million, so according to McCain he's middle class.
  23. Not having an abortion qualifies her for VP? Joe Biden lost his wife and child in an accident, how does that rank on the emotion scale?
  24. DENVER — Buffalo Sabres owner B. Thomas Golisano, fresh from launching a controversial initiative to reform New York government, is going national. Golisano, the billionaire founder of Paychex, has announced a similar federal effort that he said will support issues and candidates he believes are critical to the nation’s future. To him, that means ending the war in Iraq, wiping out an increasing federal deficit and setting the country on a course toward energy independence. And while he won’t yet say how much or exactly how he’s going to do it — he pledged $5 million for the state effort — he acknowledges he has the bank account to gain some attention. “So far, I’ve met some very key people in Congress,” he said, “and [Wednesday] we’re meeting with the economic advisory group for Barack [Obama]. They are obviously interested in my input, and I’m happy for that. “To me, this is issue-oriented, and I’m going to look for candidates who fall along the lines of thinking that I think are appropriate.” Golisano, a registered Republican who has bankrolled his three runs for governor of New York on the Independence Party line, bought his access here with a $1 million contribution to Obama’s presidential campaign. http://www.buffalonews.com/cityregion/story/425965.html
  25. This looks like the script from the tv show Geena Davis was in where she was picked by the Repub candidate just because she brought in some votes, but then he got sick and died, and she had to take over.
