  1. Guys, I wouldn't be so sure that he Whiz brings Horton. In fact, it is highly unlikely. Horton is still under contract with Arizona. This would be a lateral move. And he is seemingly happy in Arizona. Just don't see how he's leaving unless he gets a head coaching gig, or if the new guy has his own DC.

  2. To me, he is much more like Dick Jauron than anyone realizes.

Bingo! This is what I have been telling people who blindly think Lovie would be a great hire. I don't know, maybe it is something in the Chicago water, but both guys share the same glassy-eyed sideline demeanor. That is not the only similarity, but I do not want to go back to the Jauron era.

At least will keep this team competing and into the playoffs....

Not the last two years. Injuries or not, back to back collapses.

  3. Wow, Horton gave a great interview today after meeting with the Cardinals:

    My favorite points:

    Q. Do you worry about being pigeon-holed as a defensive coach?

    A. “I don’t. I think I’m a coach of men. I talk about a plan to build a team. I don’t talk about ‘hey, I can build this offense or this defense and good luck with the rest of the team.’ Whether you’re an offensive coach, you’ve got to have a defensive guy who can do something on that side. It all blends together. I think that’s a zero issue.”

    Q. When they ask you about staff structure, do you say I’m still going to run the defense?

    A. “Nope. I delegate. I think a guy that controls everything, controls nothing. I would be there to assist and help if needed. But I trust the coaches I hire to be experts at their positions. Now am I going to get 11, 15, 22 experts who are going to be experts at every position? Probably not. But the two coordinators are going to be experts. Really, in my power structure, that’s how it works. Your head coach and two coordinators have to be expert at their position. It’s a trickle-down effect of getting this guy to do this and hey, coach this this way and do that. There’s a hierarchy of critical positions. The quality control is not the most critical position on the staff.”

Horton just moved up a notch on my list.

Hahaha, I was just discussing the interview with some friends and I pulled those exact two questions out too.

  4. Just occured to me...

So the Bills go into Arizona. Arizona has a 4-1 record, and our game was back and forth. Go figure, we knock out Kolb (after he lead the Cards on their surprise start), and the wheels fall off as they finish 1-10.

For those of you that don't want Ken Whisenhunt, I have to say: If we don't knock out Kolb, and the Cards even finish 3-8 or 4-7, Whisenhunt may not have been fired.

This is just the kind of sick twist of fate that only happens in Buffalo...

  5. I think some people were missing my point. I wasn't shocked that he brought it up because I do expect certain talks to happen in this regard over the next 5 years or so. But the fact that he didn't say potentail at the presser, but corrected himself later, perhaps lends itself to the possibility that some type of succession is indeed in place, rather than the age old "it will go the highest bidder." If the organization was only focused on the now and whatever happens happens after Ralph passes, I don't think a new stadium would really be something that Brandon would've mentioned.

  6. This comment from Russ today really intrigued me. Even more intriguing was that on WGR afterwards, he claimed that during the presser, he said "potential new stadium on the horizon." I went back to double check - he never said "potential." Any potential succession plan for Ralph is obviously not public, but this was the first instance where I thought, "Maybe Russ knows more than we do, and he slipped up a little bit here." Thoughts?

  7. The same defense that we beat?

I'm not trying to be negative with the guy and I admit that I'm saying this knowing nothing about him besides seeing the team we beat, their record, and draft status.

From the smell test, I just don't get it. I remember the days where you had to be a top 5 at your position to be considered and I feel like this is the first time I'm hearing his name for a HC job

    A few things to consider....

    - Arizona's offense lead the league in INTs

    - Arizona scored the second fewest PPG

    - Arizona ranked 12th overall in D

    - Arizona ranked 12th in points allowed per game

    - Arizona D was 2nd in 3rd down efficiency

    - Arizona D ranked 4th in takeaways

I think it is fair to say that Horton's D is NOT the reason Arizona is picking ahead of us.

  8. None of this makes any sense. Why would Ralph hang onto the team all these years with the intent of selling it at some point in the future... despite the risk that he could pass at any point?

The guy is keeping the team. Nothing has changed. If he wanted to sell the team and be a hero (not saying he hasn't been a hero as an owner all this time, just using it in this sense), it would've happened already.
