  1. Somebody is sure to point out that Rodgers didn't play in the 2nd. But it's a moot point; he was in for 4 series and 10 minutes+ time of possession.

You're right. I was thinking more along the lines of number of series played, not sure why I went in the quarters played direction. Edwards along with most of the first team offense besides possibly Marshawn NEED at least that amount of PT tomorrow IMO.

  2. Which is, IMO, a mistake, given how young our offense is and the implementation of a supposedly new system for Trent in 2 years. :puke:

I know Jauron is injury-scared now after last year, but he's gotta let them get their reps somehow, and from what I've read, he sure as hell hasn't been tough on them in practice...

I couldn't agree more. Particularly for Edwards sake. On MNF, both the Bengals and Packers had their starting quarterbacks taking snaps well into the 2nd quarter, and you cannot tell me that Edwards needs less work with his offense than Rodgers or especially Carson Palmer, a Pro-Bowler. I do not want to see stupid mistakes made against Seattle on September 7th that may have been avoided with more reps in the pre-season.

  3. In all fairness, both of Brennan's touchdown passes, and a few non-TD passes, seemed to be very well-thrown balls. On the other hand, even Quinn Gray looked pretty good last night, so who knows. In the end, it was just great to watch live NFL action again. I couldn't care if the halftime show was both teams lining up and riverdancing. The return of live football, preseason or otherwise, is always a welcome event.

Well said. It would've been nice to see some of the Manning, Portis, Moss, Wayne, Harrisons, etc of the world playing some ball last night, but it's still the NFL. I can wait till September comes around for the craving to be fully satisfied.

  4. I really like these 7 bets:

Buffalo over 7.5: Pretty easy one IMO, even if you're not a die-hard Bills fan. Maturing offense with a potentiallyt great group of playmakers, great additions on defense including #51 back in the middle, consistent top-5 ST which is going to change this year. 10 or 11 wins seems right to me.

Panthers over 7.5: Delhomme and the defense are both healthy, Smith will be back to his Pro-Bowl self after serving the two games, and I love the addition of Jonathan Stewart to the backfield. Offensive line could also be very good.

Bear under 8: With Berrian gone to Minnesota, theres not one player that scares me on that offense, besides Hester perhaps if he gets a good grip on WR this year. Rookie Matt Forte is about the only other interesting piece because Greg Olsen is stuck with the Grossman/Orton combo. I'd be surprised to see them average anything more than 13-16 points a game. The defense is on the decline IMO, and teams are going to be kicking it away from Hester all year long if they're smart.

Vikings over 8.5: Here's the team to watch for in the North. The defense could be the best in the entire league. The O-line and running game is top notch, and if Tavaris Jackson can provide some consistency at QB with Berrian in town and Sidney Rice developing, this is a playoff team for sure.

Giants over 8.5: Wheres the love for a team that only lost two key contributors during their Playoff/Super Bowl run, one who now resides in Orchard Park. The other in a retirement community. And remember, Shockey wasn't around for it, Kevin Boss was and he did just fine. This is at the bare minimum a 9 win team.

Dolphins under 5.5: Still much too young on both sides of the ball. Who knows who will win the quarterback battle, probably McCown who isn't going to scare many people. Ronnie Brown's a talent, but will land on the injury report more often than not. Can't see them getting to 5 wins.

Lions under 6.5: Some interesting pieces on the offensive side of the ball in Roy Williams, Calvin Johnson in his 2nd season and Rookie back Kevin Smith from UCF who holds the career rushing mark in NCAA DI. However, Kitna is only getting older, the defense is only getting worse it appears (losing Shaun Rogers didn't help) and their schedule looks tough. 5-11 sounds about right.

  5. Seriously? A Kyle Williams jersey? Why don't you buy a George Wilson or DiGiorgio jersey too, while your at it.

Maybe because there are some people out there who like certain guys that aren't exactly the most popular players on the team as far as jersey sales go. Lay off. And by the way its just Williams on the back unless thats changing for some reason this year.

  6. Disagree. He made the probowl on reputation and highlight hits including his patented horse tackle. Watch a Dallas game some time and see how often he is beat. He is not among the top 25 DBs in the league, and nothing you say will make an ounce of difference in my opinion. If the ranking was top 25 pound for pound hitters I may consider him.

Agreed. Give me a defensive back who can shut down a passing game while being adequate against the run over a glorified undersized linebacker like Williams who is pretty good against the run, will make a highlight reel hit one every 5 games and couldn't cover a Division II wideout.

  7. Bowen was a pretty decent player, hope it translates to the NFL.

I feel the same way, and I really think he will. I didn't realize until I came across an article today that he led the entire nation in tackles with 155 in the 2006 season. Not to mention 9 sacks in 46 games. And it's not like he's playing in the Mountain West of something, this is quality Big 12 football. Size doesn't seem like it could be too much of an issue with him either. And clearly he has a plus motor. I have a feeling alot of teams are going to wish they didn't let Bowen slip to the 5th.

  8. Here's my take....

Edwards: 18-26, 212 yards, 2 Tds, No Picks.

    Lynch: 24 Carries, 118 Yards, 1 Td, 3 Catches for 20 yards

    Jackson: 7 Carries, 33 Yards

    Evans: 5 Rec, 76 Yards, 1 Td

    Hardy: 4 Rec, 48 Yards, 1 Td

    Parrish: 3 Rec, 28 Yards

    Reed: 2 Rec, 20 Yards

    Royal: 1 Rec, 20 Yards

Schobel, McCargo, Mitchell: One sack a piece.

Poz and Crowell both with 10+ Tackles.

Whitner and Greer INT one each.

    Lindell 2/2 on FG.

    Bills: 27 Seahawks: 13

  9. OK, why didn't Parcells draft McKelvin? Let me have a stab at that question.....because teams are built up front?

In 06, the Bills had 2 weak lines and focused on defensive backs. We have drafted 6 dbs in the first 4 rounds in 06 and 08 alone, including a #8 and a #11. And, we brought in a few free agents. Did it work? Whitner has a million tackles, most of them after sizeable gains. Our DL looks improved but it is thin at DT, and on offense, we need depth at Guard as well as any Center at all.

That's OK, because we have an army of little dbs, right? I hope this works in games like the ones last year against Cleveland and the giants. Think it will?

Thin at Defensive Tackle? You kidding? Stroud, McCargo, Williams, and Johnson make that position one of the ones that has the most depth on the team. All four of those guys are going to play well and contribute IMO. And theres no way in hell we were going guard or center at #11 unless Branden Albert slipped, which didn't happen. So your argument makes little sense to me.

  10. I tend to put alot of weight on Joyner's views, and I don't mind this assesment too much, but I think we can look for Turk to try and have Trent stretch the field more than 7 yards per completion would suggest. I think somewhere between 8-9 is more realistic. If Fairchild was still in town, this might be right on, but I expect the deep pass to be put into our arsenal much more this year.

  11. There's a difference between "Want" him to fail... and "Think" he will fail...

I don't Want anyone on the team to fail... but I personally think he will...

He will more than likely fail to live up to whatever sick and wrong expectations are put on him by some fans.

Buffalo Bills fans expect every QB to live up to a very MYTHICAL expectation to be as good/great as the great Jim Kelly...

I remember the "Jim Kelly Era"... Jim Kelly didn't live up to the expectations fans placed on him... as time goes on, the legend grows as people who only heard or recall the best times forget all the other things - playing poorly while injured but refusing to leave due to the fear of the growing love for Frank Reich. The fact that despite being a good QB, he was unable to win a Superbowl.

If we don't stop holding our QBs up to this mythical standard, we'll continually burn out players and churn through QBs as fast as we do Head Coaches.

I've said it many times... JP got a raw deal - and for that some fans feel bad for him. No, he wasn't the second coming of Jack Kemp or Jim Kelly... But, he wasn't Todd Collins or RJ either... He lost his job due to injury - and when he got it back, it was "temporary" because every week the coaches refused to say he was the starter for good.

I don't know about most of you, but if you were replaced with a trainee at your job and made to stand around and watch him struggle at times but be told that you probably would lose your job to him, how would you feel? Betrayed? Hurt? A little angry?

Trent Edwards is not going to throw for 5,000 yards, 50 TDs and have no Picks... Hell, I bet he won't throw for 3,500 yards, 30 TDs and only 10 picks. So, will that be "success"? The team isn't going to win 19 games next season... The team is probably not going to win 12 games next year, so is that "success"?

I don't want the boy to fail... I just know that he will fail to meet the ridiculous expectations fans place on him.

Both sides of the debate are going to place high expectations on him, his backers, because they think he can do it and JP cannot... his detractors because they know he can't and therefore it will be easy to denounce him as NOT the solution - which to them would prove JP should have been given the chance.

Since I'm powerless to make the decisions at One Bills Drive... I choose to support their decision, and hope that it works out for the team.

You're exactly right. These have always been my feelings. Do I support Edwards and think he will have a good season? Yes. Have I always been a big JP guy and think he got a completely raw deal with little chance to succeed? Yes. Lets just hope this ends up working out for the best for the entire team's sake.

  12. I was born in Boston, and lived there till I was 6. So naturally being a huge Sox fan was instilled in me. However, when my dad moved us back to our hometown in Buffalo, the Sabres and Bills were instantly added to my list of teams that I die-hard root for. As much as I love my Sox and the Sabres, it is not even close to how much pride I have for being a Bills fan. Gearing up for the games all week. Constantly surfing the web for articles. Draft day. Training Camp. And of course being at the Ralph at 9 AM for almost 12 hours for each and every home game, and watching the away games religiously. Theres no feeling quite like being a Bills fan. And something tells me this may be the year that the last 10 years of mediocricy comes ends and our hopes and dreams come to fruition with a playoff run.

  13. Hahahahahaha!

Is the BPD THAT idotic??? Why would Lynch speak with someone who is looking out for his best interests, rather than those trying to convict him??? What was he thinking!?!?!!

Exactly. Which is why it was such a joke that some people were up in arms that he wasn't making public statements or talking to the police about it until he had to. It's called good legal advice, whether you're in the wrong or not.
