No their plan was a good one (i.e. accumulate enough assets that will allow you to pick your future captains). Pretty sure their intent is to move away from a collection of talented players (Whaley era) to more of a team building approach where the guys and chemistry compliment each other. But you need cornerstones first. The issue is did they get the right guys? That part remains to be seen.

Also, I think they badly miscalculated Allen's market. I bet they could have stood pat at 12 and he would have been there. Hard to know for sure though.

The o line was bad luck. I'm sure they thought they'd have Richie and EWood for another year or two. That has to be a priority next off season along with WR. I have faith McBeane can find patch work solutions for the D until we can rebuild that side. We're not nearly as far away there as week one would suggest.

No man, we're definitely rebuilding. McBeane traded away virtually every good Whaley era player and brought in patch work solutions, then we used our draft capital to buy our captains of the future which they plan on rebuilding around. This is a classic rebuild.

Ok you can call it rebuilding but I call it trying to get better.  There's no guarantee that any future picks will be any good and think that history would show otherwise.  Maybe next year we'll all be saying just wait till next year.  McBeane 's doing the same as been done many times in the past.

We're not rebuilding.  Sounds like a good idea, but we're not.

No, we are just a historically bad football team trying to get better.  Seen way too many "just wait till next year" posts that don't seem to ever pan out.  Sorry, but we're not that good at drafting,  picking up better players via trade or free agency, or assembling a proper mix of talent.  There is no magic wand that suggests we will do better next year.

So, I just watch the Bills each year and hope for the best..  I criticise them when they lose and jump for joy when they win.  Been doing that since 1960.

Part of it, yes I did. I did not watch the entire game because each possession with Peterman at QB was always going to be the same as the first 5 I saw. I turned it back on when a fellow Bills fan told me they put Allen in. People geek tfo. Billspolar should be deemed a true mental disorder. It was an ugly game. We had three or four of those last year and still made the playoffs. I don't expect much from this team. Didn't before TC even started and still don't now, but I'm not running around like my hair is on fire in the desert either.

Easy for you to say, I'm looking for a fire extinguisher and an oasis to cool off.

Whiie I personally Love it, I’d lose my position to accept a screen name like this.

Suffice it to say, this is the all time worst Opening Game beatdown in team history.

This, my friend, is a noteworthy day..

Very true and I've been a spectator since the first game in 1960.

Fans really need to be patient, and let Brandon Beane's plan come to fruition.  If this team isn't pointing up by the middle/end of next season, then we can start talking.  Until then, it's just ridiculously premature.

Nobody wants to deal with a rebuilding season.  It's ugly to watch, and it's easy to get impatient.  But until Beane arrived, this organization was stuck in a perpetual state of .500 football, with no playoffs in 17 years and no franchise quarterback.  He decided that our best course wasn't to add talent to the foundation, but to blow up the foundation and start over.

Many are frustrated with the lack of talent we added this offseason, and want to blame Beane for not fielding a competitive team.  But looking at our resources, I just don't see how much more he could have done.

We only had so many draft picks, and it was absolutely vital to the plan for them to secure Josh Allen with the first trade up.  We absolutely could not walk out of this draft without our QB of the future, and anyone who disagrees is not worth listening to.  Even without the trade-up for Tremaine Edmunds, we would only have had one extra 3rd Round choice.  That's it.

In free agency, Beane used the little cap space he had to improve the D-Line.  Maybe time will tell that he overpaid for Star Lotulelei and Trent Murphy, but I think we should give them a little bit longer than Week 1 to call them busted pickups.  The Vontae Davis addition looks pretty bad so far, but EJ Gaines only played 11 games last year and is already hurt again.  I can't blame them for letting him walk.  After the Davis, Lotulelei and Murphy signings, we didn't have the cash to make any other splash signings.  Right now, the Bills are sitting with less than $9 million in cap space.  So it's not like they had a ton of money to go out and upgrade the other weak spots.  We had to settle for guys like Russell Bodine and Marshall Newhouse.

And for all of the complaining about the O-Line, don't forget that Ritchie Incognito retired in April - AFTER all the best free agents had been picked clean and AFTER the draft was finished.  The Bills had restructured his contract and were counting on him playing this season.  It's not Beane's fault that Incognito screwed his teammates over.

I get it.  We have big holes on the offensive line, at wide receiver and at cornerback.  We will likely be starting a rookie quarterback sooner than later.  We probably won't be very competitive in 2018.  But that was never the plan.  The plan was to develop Allen, get Edmunds some experience.  Next year we have an estimated $90 million in cap space.  We have virtually no players (Kyle Williams and maybe Kelvin Benjamin) needed to re-sign.  And we have a full slate of draft picks.

You may be right but for me I don't have much faith in the Bills improving.  Been a fan since 1960 and witnessed too may rebuilds, retooling and other such nonsense to only fall short again and again.

I'm truly fed up with the wait till next year bit.

The current front office has nothing to do with anyone else who ran this franchise in the past.

You are correct, but so far am not impressed.  Not calling for any firings or purges - just disappointed with what I have seen.

IF we did add two elite players (Allen and Edmunds) then that is great and when these guys actually become elite they will make a big, big difference.

that said, the supporting cast has to improve.  We need immediate help at RG, C, LG, WR, OLB, and CB.  Assuming Allen has a good season.

Very true- lots of holes to fill.  Is it me or do the Bills play some of the worst football at times - often looking sloppy, under-talented, badly coached and out-classed?  Losing is one thing, but laying a hugh egg is another, and I'm really getting sick of it.

  8. Don't think adding one or two elite players via the draft is going to help that much.  There are too many holes to fill on both sides of the ball.  God forbid if Josh isn't a superstar QB, were screwed long term.  Thought we would be more competitive under this new regime, but instead, in my opinion, played the worst football I've seen in many years, if not THE worst.

It is easy to see this is a tear down. Last year wasn't supposed to happen. The roster was purged. Next year they will begin to build it up.

I don't think the Bills are very good at tear down and buildups as their history shows (4-5 good years out of 60).  Think they'll purge the roster some more and build it up with more crap - and the beat goes on..  They're as good with trades as they are with the draft.....

This should be the same for all players then.

The NFL is a mess. Like, worse than Carrot Tops hair.

It is the same for all players.  Applies to anyone running with the ball.

Did you read the whole article?

Even at the end it states:

This will definitely be interesting to see how the league truly enforces this rule. Because the way the Article explains, the minute a player leaves his feet, his forward progress stops.

Yes, the article is totally wrong when you look at the actual rule.  Whoever wrote that article in PFT  highlighted the rule verbage and then interprets it incorrectly.

Click on the link in the 3rd paragraphof the PFT article where it states "does not have to slide feet first".  Then look at the explanation of the change.

  11. Suggest everybody read the rule as highlighted in the PFT article.  It states that a player is down where he hits the ground, not where he initiated the dive.  The rule is designed to stop defenders from diving at a runner when he dives head first to prevent him from gaining any additional yardage.  Therefore, any runner who dives for the endzone will be down where he hits the ground period.  If he hits the ground in the endzone its a td.  If he hits the ground before the goalline, thats where the ball will be spotted.

Again, the rule does not say that the ball will be spotted where the dive begins, but rather at the first point of contact with the ground.  Sounds like a non issue to me.

^ Todd Collins or Frank Reich?

I thought there were times Jim Kelly should have taken a week or two more to recover from injury since the team always seemed to rally around Frank Reich

I thought JP Losman had what it took to be a very good, not great, QB

I believe Chan Gailey was the best HC the team had between Marv and McDermott

On that topic Marv was tremendous at managing ego's and a good motivational one liner at times, was but was nota great Xs and Os coach

I thought we got two defensive steals in the 2010 draft with Carrington and Moats.

I bought into the Darrick Rogers (WR) pre-season hype

Butch Byrd belongs on the Wall of Fame

    Todd collins

  13. I wanted Johnson to start over Flutie based on his performance in the previous game  even though I loved Flutie

Thought Trent Edwards was going to be the real deal

    but

I actually wanted the backup QB (name escapes me) to replace Jim Kelly before he actually did
