  1. Don't know very much about Luck, but as a Michigan grad I've watched Mallett very closely since his college career began. I still don't know what to make of him as an NFL prospect. He has a Million Dollar Arm, like from another planet kind of arm. His passes literally would shred the gloves of his WRs as a freshman. Can make all the throws an NFL QB needs to make right now. The downside is that he will at times try and make throws that he shouldn't because he has such confidence in his arm and will lead to poor decisions and passes that get picked at critical moments. Generally makes quick decisions and has a really quick release but will try and force things from time to time. Big, strong kid who can take a beating and has not shown to be injury prone. Will need an OL that is strong in pass protection, the comparison to Bledsoe in the pocket is pretty accurate. He actually has decent straight line speed if he needs to take off and run for a guy his size, but doesn't move in the pocket real well. I'm assuming he's matured personally quite a bit since he transferred to Arkansas and seems to have grown up some from what I can tell watching games, but when at Michigan he was not well liked by his teammates. Would openly argue with teammates during games and blame mistakes on them, all captured on national TV (game at Wisconsin his freshman year was a prime example), and you could see teammates staying away from him on the sideline and just shaking their heads at him. Leadership was not his greatest skill and he alienated a lot of people on campus while he was there. He also seriously struggled adjusting to the cold weather in Ann Arbor, so I am not sure how well he would handle life in WNY. He's from Texarcana TX and lived in the south all his life until college. He's a high risk/reward player. Guy could be a pro bowler and win a lot of rings because he's got a once in a blue moon type of arm, but he could be the next Ryan Leaf if he hasn't gotten all the knucklehead out of his system and get a GM fired. His arm will get him drafted early, no doubt. I don't know if he's the right fit for the Bills though.
  2. As a Michigan graduate.... this is an embarrassment. The kid has all the talent in the world, but he's a bum. Usually Michigan doesn't take kids that are serious academic risks (not that they're all scholars or anything), but obviously they made an exception here. There is also a reason why he wasn't allowed to speak with the media... you can probably figure it out now. No one in Ann Arbor is sad to see him go. I fully expect him to be a bust. I also expect Michigan WR Adrian Arrington to be a steal late in the draft. Hands, size, decent speed. Wouldn't mind seeing the Bills take him later in the draft.
  3. Interesting signing. Will James is my Favorite Player to be Kicked Out by Michigan (my alma mater), back when he was named Will Peterson. He was good his freshman year, very good his sophomore season, showed loads of potential... and then he got booted from the University for ordering a stripper to a dorm room party and then stealing $46 out of her purse. Niiiiiiice. I will say this though: James/Peterson/whatever he is called now is not without talent. If he can commit himself and put in the effort he can help with depth in the secondary. Assuming he doesn't rob another stripper of course.
  4. Michigan graduate here.... Manningham is an outstanding physical talent, but definitely can be lazy, ESPECIALLY if he knows the ball isn't coming to him. He'll crap out on blocks if he isn't the main focus of a play. Has a superior double move and can get behind coverage consistently. Good hands on fade routes and very confident, but has dropped his share of balls that he should have had. He is not supposed to be a bad kid off the field, but does not have a great work ethic. I would not be surprised to see him spend his career as a 3rd/4th option in the game specifically for deep patterns unless he learns to put in the work. On the other hand, I would love to see the Bills take a 5th/6th round flyer on Michigan WR Adrian Arrington. Excellent hands, tough blocker, great size and leaping ability, good speed.... kid hurt his knee in training for the combine and couldn't go full speed. He is much more complete a player than Mario, and is actually more NFL-ready. Matured a great deal this past season. Great red zone target. I'm still a bit of a skeptic about Devin Thomas. Maybe it's just because he's a Sparty, but while talented he is still raw and hasn't proven a lot against top competition. We need someone who can contribute immediately. I would much rather have Sweed or Kelly.
