Foster should have been put on IR before the season started.  Duke showed what he can do in the preseason and should have been active since day one of the season.  Plus, we were at risk of losing him.

That would have made room for Duke or perhaps even Murphy who led our RBs the last two years with 5.9 and 4.8 YPA.

  2. It was forward.  Slightly.  Lateral or not that was some boneheaded clock management.

You are in FG range.  The clock is stopped at 20 seconds.  Price just made a great play to get you a first down.  You have no timeouts.  What do you do?

    Run, Spike, Kick.

    Game over.

Even if the Titans don't get a TD, they had time to get a play or two and then kick a long FG.  And we had a poor coverage unit all season long.

  3. Using the Eyeball test, the Patriots* defense is top five.  We are also top five.  Neither defense has done it against good offenses. The Bills have at least done it against a couple average offenses.  Patriots* gave up over 400 yards to the Bills - the only average offense they've faced, and it was on JA's worst day.  Tougher stretch of games coming the Patriots way...

Those long kicks resulted in touchbacks and were fairly poor net kicks.

    61 yards, touchback, net 41.

33 yards, fair catch at 10

39 yards, fair catch at 12

    64 yards, net 62

47 yards, fair catch at 14

    56 yards, touchback, net 36.

His three long kicks (61, 64, 56) averaged net 46.33 despite two touchbacks.  Not too shabby.  Probably his best day.

You know that’s how all fouls work right?

I pretty much know everything about this game.  ? I was just answering the question and providing a synopsis about what followed after the foul.  Also, I believe there is still a 5-15 rule where personal fouls are not offset by Offside and such, though I have not seen that apply in a long time.

Did you know they assessed a penalty on the play?

Holding on offense, unnecessary roughness on defense.  Penalties offset.  3rd and 10.  Barkley came in and threw a 30 yard dime to Brown against a heavy blitz, in which Gilmore interfered with Brown.  But Brown made a fantastic one handed catch regardless.

Obviously Duke was activated to the roster, but did he practice with the 1st team offense all week?

There are no restrictions on how a team uses their practice squad players in practice.  I read here that Duke was practicing with Special Teams this week.  I'd wager he'll be active and he'll play snaps on kick coverage and a couple red zone offense plays.

there was 1 reason the Bills lost the game

Close games usually come down to several plays, any one of which can change a game.

    • Allen's 3 INTs
    • RT whiffing leading to Barkley's INT?
    • Blocked punt?
    • Allen getting knocked out?
    • Failure to run in a TD from the 1 yard line or bad play call?
    • Dropped TD catch?
    • 15 yards of field position lost every punt exchange?

    Defense balled out.

Well, true, it looks like a non-contact PI, but it's a DEFENSIVE intereference call. The question was "why don't the Bills run pick plays like the Pats." The response was "because the Bills - unlike the Pats - would be flagged for OFFENSIVE pass interference. So I still haven't seen an example of an offensive PI called for a non-contact pick play ...

For what it's worth, my response was not what you quoted.  The reality is that rub plays and crosses should be part of the Bills offense and I'm sure they are. The play in question looks to be intentional (attempted?) tripping, where there may or may not have been contact to the defender's back foot, and where the defender actually trips and falls.  Pretty sure this is called by more than 50% of the time. And if it's called, it would not have been overturned.

Can you point to any penalty flag for offensive pass interference EVER thrown on a Bills player for running a noncontact pick play? Maybe we should try it? By the way, I think we are with Daboll as the new receivers learn the playbook and start to work

better in coordination. I actually like watching well executed receiver pick/rub plays just like I enjoy watching really well executed picks in the NBA.

I recall Jags and Browns - both home games.  May have been same year or a year apart.  I found this video for the Jags.

  11. Three out of four are all starters on a very good defensive unit.  I might be missing something with their play that doesn't equate to stats.

Since short term cap space is about zero concern for the Bills, I'd decide using remaining value on the contract (which maximizes long term cap space).

Murphy - 1 year $7M.  Keep him, perhaps a compensation pick kicks in the following year. Thin at the position.

Lawson - FA.  In the mix if he wants to stay, but not a bank breaker.

Star - 3 years $24M - about $8M per year.  Hasn't shown a lot, IMO.  But also not horrible if he is a good locker room guy.  I would try to trade then move on.  Peko played about the same for < $1M. HH is outplaying him.

Lee Smith - 2 years $4.7M.  Great in the locker room and as a mentor.  Kind of a 6th lineman when he plays.  Would love to see him as H-back. Decent contract. Keep him.

  12. Allen played the same against the Jets, except he was able to come in and get a 4th quarter comeback.  But he did not have that opportunity yesterday, unfortunately.  The punt block was the killer.  Does our punt team know what to do when they are facing 10 rushers?  Off topic: Pats* punter is fantastic.  Duke Williams probably catches that 4th down TD pass.  This game was there for the taking, but we could not completely overcome the punt block, all four turnovers, and the tripping no-call.
