  1. If their is any truth to this speculation he would be outstanding depth in an already deep linbacking corp and the Bills would be foolish to not pull the trigger on such a deal.

Let's not get too excited about our depth, while it is solid, I wouldn't say it's deep. It could use a piece or two to call it deep.

  2. I'm not saying that Whitner was a mistake by any means, he's a solid player, but who can honestly say he's done all that we have hoped that he would through 2 seasons??

Well actually you did say it was a mistake.. You said in your first post:

"I mean why make the same mistake twice as they did with Donte Whitner?"

  3. WR, CB, DE...I don't believe that any of them will help us 'stop' the Patriots.

Honestly, I'm more concerned about the Jets and Dolphins, as well as the other 10 teams on the schedule than I am the Patriots. I don't think that this team is realistically ready to compete with the Pats for a division title. IMO, I think that an improved offense, particularly the receiving corps, will provide much more 'bang for the buck' than another defensive addition this year and enable this team to be more competitive on a week-to-week basis and not just against one team.

As I stated in another thread, the Giants actually allowed more TD passes than the entire Bills offense scored passing AND rushing last year. This team isn't going to win on a consistent basis until it can score even a modest 20 ppg.

That said, I'm not sure I'd pick WR #1, but it has nothing to do with the Patriots and more about the WRs in this draft.

Very well put.. Also, a better receiving corps can keep drives alive keeping our defense off the field; thus keeping elite opposing QBs such as Tom Brady (who you will never fully stop) on the bench.

  4. Is anyone else worried about it? The situation reminds me so much of the Bryant Johnson one. First we brought him in. We liked him and he liked it here. Then a couple days later, it was reported on ESPN and NFL Network and several other places that he signed a contract to join the Buffalo Bills. Yet, nothing was reported anywhere on the Buffalo Bills website. It was never mentioned in the Chris Brown blog and also was not put up as one of the lead stories. Hell, they don't have him on their roster either. So, whats the deal? Is this another one of those false reporting? Was John Clayton wrong, yet everyone else trusted him so they all reported it? I'm sure it's no big deal because he wasn't that good in Philly. But he's better than Youboty IMO and might compete with Greer, plus he makes it so we don't waste a 1st rounder on a CB. What do you guys think?

If we spend a first round pick on a CB, it surely won't be wasted.. Our CBs last year played hard and well for that matter; but none of them were shut down corners.. If we get one of the big name corners in the draft, he is surely help build depth, competition, and more than likely start at some point this year. I don't believe that Wiliam James solves any problem we have better than a CB we would take in the first round.

  5. Besides the fact that this channel is filled with obnoxious, insecure local homers, I continue to laugh everytime I hear their shameless self-promotion about being the number one "rated" or "ranked" sports station in America. It's amazing what people will "sell" and what people will "buy" because the first time I heard that I knew it was bogus. They never tell you by who or how that came to be, do they. They don't tell it on their website either because basically, they just want you to take their word for it. It's the concept that they own a radio station and that automatically gives them credibility. Kinda like Jeremy White using his Syracuse degree as his credibility when in fact he's just some tool from rural America who thinks that having an opinion means he knows what he's talking about or can speak intelligently about a topic without shouting. Like Marv Levy says, the louder you talk the less I hear you.

Anyway, let's just look at some simple facts to dispel this ranking.

    1. The Buffalo radio market is ranked 52 in terms of size. (Source: Arbitron) So these hosts who think they're so great, knowledgable and professional need to realize (and probably do) that they're in the minor leagues when compared to other markets.

    2. In the fall of 2006, WGR55 ranked 8th in THIS MARKET in terms of listening share (Arbitron) behind WBEN and a bunch of music stations.

    3. I was unable to find any data supporting WGR55s claim they're ranked no 1. You have to subscribe to get this data from sources such as Arbitron. However, I have a pretty good guess how that was derived. The most important issue here in any ranking of radio or television is viewers or in radio's case listeners. Then there is the share of listeners in any of a variety of ways to measure. So how could WGR55 be rated number one in the country? Could it be that they are the only sports radio station in the region and that by that, they always have 100% of the people listening to sports radio listening to their channel? One way or another, this was determined through simple analysis of data.

Also, this rank or rating was determined was definitely not determined by a survey of listeners where they were asked to rate the station for quality. There is no way that enough listeners would rank this station highly. I work in an office where sports are many people's lives and no a single one likes WGR55. Every single friend I have that is an avid sports fan hates them too.

If it was based on a survey, it was likely one question on a larger survey of local media and went something like this "When you listen to sports locally, what channel to you listen to."

Trust me, I have a degree in journalism and a masters degree in a social science. I know how the media slants things and I certainly know how surveys and data can be developed and created to make anyone be anyting they want.

When WGR bought out WNSA, they created a monopoly whereby if you want sports news or talk or boradcasts, you're forced to listen to WGR. That doesn't mean their good or anyone likes them, it just means they control the means of production!

Although I agree with you, you are using the same logic when talking about your degrees as Jeremy White is with his Syracuse degree. I don't have a degree in either of those fields you do, but I could tell you the same thing you said. It is annoying to HAVE to listen to Schopp and the Bulldog when you want to listen to a local sports station. Thankfully, I have Sirius.

  6. Actually, it doesn't matter, because I do. Regardless of his lack of stats ( I know you guys love the stats ) he is an animal of a player, and his special teams work has been fantastic. I think people forgot about him with his injury last year, but I think he steps in and shows he is a solution for the Bills in 07 a la Crowell in 05.

I disagree. Although I think he is solid and can help out in different packages, we need to address the LB in the draft and find out starter there.

  7. anyone realize that that Kevin Jones might not be ready for the start of the season??

    http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/players/playerpage/492975

This is part of the reason for Tatum Bell's acquisition, and TJ Duckett was brought in as a compliment back to both the other RBs; goaline carries and short yardage situations. It might be a while before Jones is ready to play in 2007 and I don't think when he is ready, they are interested in moving any of the 3 backs.

  8. I would like to share my thanks for this wonderful message board. By far the best I have ever seen (including all sports outlets). It is user friendly and I have tried to navigate around other teams message boards or even other sporting outlets message boards with much less success (they are down right confusing!). To the creators/administrators, I praise you and give thanks.
