I believe the ravens and lewis are still trying to work out some sort of deal. I could see the ravens maybe offering us a 3rd (if in fact we talk to them). but their defense is getting old and theyre a team that needs to look to the draft.

I'd hate to say it, but one of the best teams that draft is the New England Patriots. They always get value for their picks, and their scouting department is phenomenal. After the 2000 draft in which they got Brady, Theyve Picked the following starters
2001 Richard Seymour and Matt Light
2002 Daniel Graham and Deion Branch
2003 Ty Warren, Eugene Wilson, Asante Samuel, Dan Koppen
2004 Vince Wilfork and Ben Watson
2005 Logan Mankins, Ellis Hobbs, and Nick Kaczur
2006 Laurence Maroney, Chad Jackson, David Thomas and Stephen Gostkowski
Their Drafts get better over the years and all of these guys have contributed to the Pats success over the years, a good front office is the key to success in this league. Their mid-round picks such as Samuel, Light and Kaczur shows that the way to build a succesful team is in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th rounds. And while they have lost some guys like graham and branch, they got a 1st rounder in return this year for deion. Unfortunately I don't see their draft luck running out anytime soon.
Now on the other side of the coin I would have to put two teams The Detroit Lions, for obvious reasons and the Washington Redskins. Daniel Snyder still has yet to grasp that you actually need to build through the draft. In 2003 and 2004 combined they only had 7 draft picks, and only one first rounder (Sean Taylor). They only have four picks this year and after the 1st round, they dont have one until the fifth. This is one of the main reasons why I do not feel the redskins have been at all succesful in the past several years, with the exception of 2 seasons ago.

I think when free agency starts you will realize that we did not overpay for kelsay, under the new current cap this will seem like an average deal.

can we stop freeney comparisons please? i believe freeney was double teamed, sometimes tripled. i dont believe this was the case with kelsay

who really knows, we'll find out soon enough. Although, i really think his claim of wanting to stay with the bills is probably to squeeze more money out of suitors.

i'd be suprised if we drafted a corner in the first round, even if we don't re-sign nate. If the bills are going to start playing a true Cover 2, the corners are not as important, i could see us drafting a MLB in the first round, depending on what happens in free agency and the mcgahee situation

well only 6 mil is gonna end up counting against this years cap number. But reading up on the new cap, i do not think that this is a big deal. There's going to be some ridiculous contract numbers coming out this upcoming week. The Kelsay deal just happens to be one of the first big ones to happen. I still will however be disappointed if we do not re-sign nate. I wouldve rather given up kelsay to bring back nate at 8-9 mil per year.

BILLS GIVE KELSAY $13 MILLION, GUARANTEED
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the Buffalo Bills have signed defensive end Chris Kelsay to a four-year, $23 million deal. The package includes roughly $13 million in guaranteed money.
If Kelsay, who has 12.5 career sacks, is worth $6 million a year, what will guys like Adalius Thomas and Patrick Kerney receive? Will it be $8 million a year?
And what would Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney get if he were on the open market? $11 million?
The reality is that the cap is shooting up by another $7 million this year and teams will spend the money, regardless of the quality of the free-agency crop.
I still can't believe he is getting this much, i like Kelsay, but 13 mil guaranteed is a lot. but if we are giving out deals like this and under the new cap, i do wonder what it is going to take to re-sign nate.

i really hope its incentive-laced, especially if we dont retain nate. This is a DE/DT heavy draft coming up and i would rather keep nate than kelsay. but hey Marv's the GM and i'm not, so he must no more than i do.

no im pretty sure i read the entire thread, and i understand you pointed out certain players, but you failed to say why teams such as the broncos at 21 or the colts at 32 would trade. Sure its fun to say oh we can get all these picks in the first three rounds, but it just doesnt work out like that.

Per the "draft value chart", dropping back from 12 to 21 would garner you a mid-second round pick. Dropping back again from 21 to 32 gets you a mid-third round. So my premise isn't without base as you've seemed to have hinting at. Now instead of bitching, how about posting what your thoughts are regarding the draft and who the Bills should take? Or perhaps you'd like to be just another whiner without substance on this board?
It's a shame, but for every topic it seems that there are posters lurking in the weeds ready to tear it down without providing anything substantive in return. It really dumbs down the discussions.
well if we are talking about substance, well then tell me why the Broncos at 21 would want to trade up to number 12, what would be sitting there that they would want? Secondly why would the colts want to trade up to number 21? They just WON THE SUPER BOWL, a team in that position has no needs to possibly trade up in the draft and give up picks. So In theory trading down is great, but you need reasons why someone would want to trade up to 12, and specifically who the hot commodity it is that they want to pick up. I'm glad you can add numbers and follow the draft value chart, but youre forgetting the reasons why these teams would want to possibly trade up to number 12. So if you want some "substabce" there you go. COME UP WITH SOMETHING FEASIBLE.

Somehow the thought of trading back to aquire an extra 2nd and/or 3rd became an absurd notion. It's really pathetic since you guys refuse to post what you'd want the Bills to do in the draft. Instead you just want to act like a couple of third rate comedians. Are you jokers afraid of saying who or what you wish the Bills to do in the draft? Please, enlighten us with your draft strategy for this year.
I've lurked on here a long time, but i finally decided to register and post on this topic. What is absurd is just saying, "oh lets trade down." Trading down is fine, but I think we should start having some rules on the board about posting about trading down. First you better have your Draft value chart. Secondly, If you're gonna post on trading down to get more picks, you should post who the trading partner (other team) will be, and why they would possibly wanna trade up (glaring needs) with the bills. This same thing happened last year to the Bills. Sure we couldve traded down when Cutler and Leinart were on the board to get Whitner in the mid first round, but you need to have a trading partner that will give you value for your pick(s). The majority of this board thinks you can just "trade down." Well unfortunately thats NOT how the draft works. So I think if you're gonna have the notion of trading down in the draft, It should be a little more detailed on how you can possibly trade down.
