Deflate-gate investigation complete
ko12010 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I really think the advantage to underinflated balls is quite large. It's hard to quantify, although the stats report about fumbling is convincing. Not sure why Rodgers likes his balls rock hard but most football players prefer them softer. Most anyone who has ever played football knows that. Makes everything easier. -

I disagree here. Whatever common practices teams engage in, the Pats seem to always take it further. They are habitual cheaters who rationalize what they're doing by claiming everyone does it. Not true. I think catching them in the act was the correct move. If, like the Colts GM claims, that it was 'common knowledge' then there is a good chance clubs have already been warned. The NFL is probably tired of the Pats always pushing/breaking the rules and being on the edge of scandal constantly. Warning them in advance for something that stats seem to show they have been doing since 2007 would show much more of an agenda than by trying to catch them in the act. -

The NFL just can't seem to do anything right honestly. If you know Brady and the Pats are up to no good and want to do a sting, do it right you dummies so there are no questions about the legitimacy of the investigation. -

Seriously, for them to go 41-0 at home against the AFC WHILE barely ever fumbling (statistically impossible fumbling rate) is in my mind, a clear sign that they were doctoring their balls for years. And it's one thing among many I'm sure they do, especially at home. Also, Spygate was very likely much much worse than the public ever knew. I'm convinced they have been running some sort of system more complex than simply 'taping' opponents. Spygate: The Untold Story is really the only example of a journalist actually digging into what they did. Everyone else just stopped after Goodell inexplicably destroyed the tapes and handed out punishment. I truly feel what they did was so bad it could have possibly done irreparable damage to the league, a true cheating scandal, and Goodell did what he had to do to save it. -

I think he was right on most things, but saying deflating balls isn't much more than a 'placebo' advantage is just wrong imo. I think underinflated balls are a pretty significant advantage, especially over a long period. -

Still can't believe people think underinflated footballs don't give a significant advantage. They do. -

But that's all that's required in non criminal proceedings, so yeah, they should. If it's good enough for a civil lawsuit the size of OJ's it should be in this case -

No, I get that, it's just not necessary in this instance. I'm talking about how people keep harping on the 'more probable than not' terminology Wells used as a way to cast doubt on his findings as if they are completely made up or something. Interesting possibility -

Why do people keep insisting on talking about reasonable doubt? All that is needed to conclude guilt here is preponderance of evidence. Only criminal proceedings deal with reasonable doubt. So yes, since Wells concluded that there was a greater than 50% chance Brady did what he did, then he's considered to have committed a violation. -

In non criminal proceedings it only has to be more probable than not, not beyond reasonable doubt, which I think the report clearly shows. -

Exactly how I feel. How can you go more against the 'image' the league wants to protect than what Brady did? Deliberately cheating and also bribing others (seemingly against their will) to cheat as well. -

True. What are the stages of grief? Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance? I don't think many Pats fans will ever past denial, to be honest. -

Do you realize that in non criminal cases/investigations, this is the standard used to determine guilt? It's not beyond a reasonable doubt as in a criminal investigation. This is why OJ wasn't convicted of his criminal trial but was for his civil one. Stop trying to defend them. This verbiage pisses me off because Pats apologists and their lousy fans are going to harp on this, not knowing what they're talking about. -

I feel like there is NOOOOOOOOO way Belicheck didn't know. He and Brady probably talk about every little thing regarding how they can win. I'm sure Bill just made sure to stay away from this particular thing to distance himself in case this very thing happened. -

I don't remember anyone saying Gilmore was a reach, people were just focusing on the fact that Kuechly went one pick earlier and would have been great for us.
