  1. I'm with you on this one. That was the turning point. I don't question the play calling too much. That field goal would have been a 53 yarder and if you weren't at the game you have no idea how windy it was. It was with the wind but the gusts were so wild who knows what would have happened. I would have rather seen us just go for it on 4th and 3 instead of a fake.. But again if that fake works, everyone thinks Jauron is a genius. Someone also commented about running McGahee when we were on the two instead of the naked bootleg. Whenever it is a short yardage situation it seems other teams have been able to stop us easily so for the first time this year Jauron tried to use Losman's legs and the Jets player read it perfectly.. Oh well. I will say i feel like we don't have that WR/TE that can come down with a ball in short yardage and red zone situations. That allows teams to focus on stopping the run because we don't have much of a passing threat in those situations.. The Jets may not have statistically beaten us but they came out with the win. Time to get ready for the Vikings I guess..
  2. Not sure why JP is being bashed much at all. The INT was a dumb pass. He had no business throwing that ball there but hey, one pic in 3 games is pretty solid. The fumble that went for the touchdown was not his fault at all McGahee whiffed on the block and it ended up being the turning point of the game. McGahee made a block on two guys in the same play last week so we know he is somewhat capable of making that play. Unfortunately it cost us b ig time. The first fumble was kinda a bone head play on JP's part and the crowd was definitely calling for a challenge form Jauron. I didnt get to see the replay cuz I was at the game but should he have challenged that one? Kinda looked like he was trying to throw it. And as for the last drive after the onside kick, it was 45mph wind gusts with sideways pouring rain at that point. This game was lost on our defensive side of the ball. A few drives we just couldn't make a stand. We had no pass rush all day. I wish Spikes would get healthy. I can say I am relieved that our offense did come to life. We just need to put a game together where the offense and defense are clicking in the same game. But for everyone bashing Losman, I'm just not sure what game you were watching because I don't hold him responsible for this one at all. I do feel like we don't have much of a red zone threat. We don't have that go to TE or big WR that can come down with it. Anyways, that's my thoughts. -Depressed Bills Fan Oh ya and whoever said Pennington was brillant by hitting that screen pass on third down when we had an all out blitz going is out of their mind. I could have thrown that pass with gangrene on my hand. There was no one within 8 yards of the RB and the blitz was picked up perfectly. Wide open
  3. I was at the game and very disappointed when McGahee whiffed on that black.. Game blunder in my opinion. But thanks for reminding all of us about that great block last week because as angry as I am at McGahee for that miss today, I quickly forgot about that good play last week. So ya I don't think McGahee plays uninspired football. He did have a great game running today. It's just a shame that miss block led to such a huge turnover and turning point in the game.
  4. Ive been to Carolina and I was in New England two weeks ago for the opener and I'd say neither of their fans were close to as rowdy as Bills fans at the Ralph. Come the second half I looked around to find the swarms of yellow security guards kicking people out and none of this was anywhere to be found at either stadium. I must also say my friend and I were very pretty banged up and not too quiet for the majority of the pats/bills game and no one really gave us much of a problem. Very surprising considering we were up in the cheap seats in the corner. I know in Buffalo this type of behavior by an opposing fan is not very accepted. Defintiely think the Buffalo scene was significantly rowdier than New Englands fans. And as for Carolina, I saw them play the falcons.. Everyone down there is real calm and subdued. I dont quite get that southern mentality... Go Bills Oh ya one other thing, didn't SI do a poll a year or two ago about best NFL tailgating? Buffalo won and went up against Penn State (PSU won the NCAA poll).. PSU smoked them.. PErsonally I've been to Penn State games and I didnt think the tailgating was as rowdy either..
  5. How about exit 14? Actually I don't live in Saratoga anymore but I did for 4 years while in school. Capital Region is a nice area.. Now im back in Rochester. I think we should obviously run the ball. I think we'll have success against the Jets D-Line running. However, I am anxious to see if we can keep any sort of legitimate pass attack going. I guess we'll find out the next time we're down in the second half.. So let's hope we never find out cuz that'd mean we'd be winning every game!
  6. Having Spikes back makes me feel even better about this match up. I think we match up well but I do think it may be a dog fight.. Go Bills.
  7. Actually I believe I was stating, not spewing, what my friends said happens to their satellite tv. I guess because your satellite tv has only been down 45 minutes in six years that it would be impossible to think someone could have a worse experience. I spoke to my roommate who's parents have Directv as well and he did say that during thunderstorms or a bad snow storm it does go down and you can't watch anything. I live in Rochester and we do get a lot of summer thunderstorms and plenty of winter snow so.. as much as I am debating switching, I still don't think I have enough information on satellite. So I'm sure there are positive and negative experiences with it. Then again, everyone seems to hate Time Warner such as myself so..
  8. Well according to your quote at the top of the thread, it sounds like in two TE sets they would still use Wire because "He's the team's biggest and strongest safety and his greatest strength is his run stopping ability. That's using a player's strengths to the team's advantage." From the sounds of that Bowen's injury would not have an impact on this type of situation. It'd be Whitner and Wire in 2 TE sets.
  9. The problem is that cable companies have a serious monopoly. Yes there is Satellite alternatives but I have friends who say their satellite subscription is bad and it always goes down. Bottom line is time warner is one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with in my entire life. My internet constantly goes down, my cable box always needs to be replaced, half the time my DVR doesn't work, and then I have to spend 20 minutes on hold to speak to a useless customer service representative. This is a perfect example of why competition and capitalism is so effective, because when time warner has no one to compete with for cable service, their service ultimately blows. I despise this company but am forced to use them. It's no surprise they want to rip off their customers some more and charged them an outrageous amount of money for the NFL network. the $108 buxx i pay a month is outrageous but they've got us all by the balls.
  10. Bowen, Wire, and Whitner are all SS's. Simpson and Leohnard are FS's.
  11. Moulds may have had some issues last year, rightfully so IMHO. Moulds is an aging veteran who saw the Bills come off a 9-7 year in '04. They were a game away from the playoffs. The next year there was high expectations and Mularkey and company blew the deal big time. I can understand Moulds speaking up last year, I'm glad someone did because it was a debacle. I was sad to see him go although I know we couldn't afford him this year, and he doesn't fit in to our rebuilding/get young philosophy. However, Moulds will always be one of my favorite post Kelly era Bills and I wish him the best in Houston.
  12. Wire was definitely kept because he is one of the ST leaders. I don't think he is necessarily a great safety but he's an adequate back up who plays solid special teams. Smart guy too I believe. Stanford guy. He may not have the speed of Whitner but he can be a physical presence in certain run situations. He's adequate for what we need him to do and I can't think of another safety in training camp that I would have kept over him. On another note, anyone slightly amused when Welker laid out little Leonhard on that one punt? Welcome back buddy.
  13. My thoughts on the Bills Jets game this weekend. 1) The jets supposedly have a poor running game which bodes very well for us. Obviously they could not run a ton against NE because they were down so much but regardless I think our small D Line should do OK against their run 2) The Jets passing game does look solid (Coles esp. I have him on my fantasy team) but one game was @ Ten who is ATROCIOUS, and the other was a home game. I think we match up well against a weak armed pennington in potentially windy conditions at home. I'd say the Jets receiving corp may even be weaker than the fins so I think if we can contain Coles we should be alright 3) Jets O-Line has not had great reviews. Our quick pass rush should be effective assuming our secondary can play the way they did against Miami. 4) It appears NE gouged the Jets running defense just like they did ours. I think McGahee should be able to run better on the Jets than he did on Miami. 5) Our passing game should open up now that we're at home. Losman should be a bit more comfortable. The occasional bomb down the field to Evans definitely helps keep defenses honest. In closing, obviously I'm biased because I'm a bills fan (like most of us here) but our home opener, there's no excuse to lose to the jets. None at all. The jets are better than I expected. But I'd say Ten is real bad and the Pats are weaker than I thought as well. It'd also be nice to have Spikes return. Ellison has played well but Spikes is a playmaker that wreaks havoc in the turnover battle. Either way I will do my best as a 12th man to make sure we beat the jets. Go bills
  14. There seems to be three small debates going on.. So i'll comment. 1) I definitely noticed the block in the back on the Welker return but they missed it.. oh well 2) The whistle may have been premature but the refs were trying to protect the quarterback. Regardless, let's just hope JP doesn't attempt such a stupid move again. A bill probably falls on that fumble if it's not blown dead. 3) The timing between the Reed block and Parrish reception was so miniscule. Reed had position on the CB anyways. Whether he engaged the CB a split second before Parrish had the ball or not, either way, the end result would still have been a touchdown. Therefore I'm not a big fan of the call. Especially if that line of scrimmage rule is true. I think these types of screens happen all the time where WR's engage defensive backs prematurely because there is no way for them to know when the receiver is going to catch the ball. On another note, i'm glad San Diego beat Tennessee pretty bad. It shows the Jets really did beat a real bad team last week. Altho the Jets did hang with the Pats today, they had to do it at home. I don't see why we should lose to them at our home opener. I hope to enjoy a nice W at the Ralph next Sunday. Although I must admit I need to see a few of these solid performances bunched together before I get my hopes up too high (like every other year). Good win though!
