1. I actually think that Clements is a better punt returner.  I guess I agree that he is good but I keep expecting more.  He has not had a moment yet where I have looked at him and been in awe of his moves, hopefully this will be his breakout year.

Actually, I can't stand Clements on punt returns, and I was relieved when they started using Parrish in that role. Clements NEVER just goes straight ahead. No matter what, he ALWAYS begins by running across the field. He could have 7-8 yards of open space in front of him and instead of just turning on the jets straight ahead, his first steps would be dancing to the side. Sometimes it works out, but alot of times you've got to just run ahead and find a lane that way, and I think Parrish has a much better sense for it.

  2. I like Jim Rome.  He's great when he's interviewing someone.  I also like that he doesn't do a show where he has a partner and they pretend to be complete opposites and argue about everything (does anyone like that?).

Is that a shot at PTI? Cause PTI is ESPN's best show, hands-down.

  3. Yeah, this would probably work with most positions. The higher the percentage of your first-day picks that go on to fill starting spots, the better your team will be. It's obvious and statistics aren't needed to grasp that.

Because when your picks aren't filling starting spots, then they're busts, and thats wasting very good oppurtunities to get good players.

  4. BTW, I don't see what's so wrong about saying one school/conference produces/doesn't produce good/bad players at a certain position.  I know sweet FA about college football but I must have heard a gazillion times on this board how Ohio State produces great DBs.

You're talking about two completely different animals. One school can produce good players at a given position because of good coaching in that area, and once they gain the reputation for handling a position well, the big-time high school recruits will see it as a more desirable place to play. As top-level recruits begin going to a certain school for this reason, the cycle not only continues but grows because this reputation the school has for producing well at that position becomes more and more prevelant and thus more and more top-level recruits want to go there, and it goes on and on.

This effect isn't very likely to surface on a broad, conference-wide generalization, such as "all receivers who go to a MAC school are doomed to fail in the NFL." The reason is that few people would ever realize an entire college football conference isn't producing at one individual position. And even if they did notice, few people would give it any significance because the basis of it makes no sense. It's unrealistic to believe that every team in a college football conference has some sort of flaw that stops recruits from succeeding in the NFL when they otherwise would have had a good career. I personally find believing that to be preposterous.

  5. It's ridiculous to say that a MAC receiver will never succeed in the NFL. What, has someone cojured a magic spell or cursed all MAC wideouts until the end of time? Because THERE IS NO MORE LOGICAL EXPLANATION FOR IT. It's merely coincidence that, since Randy Moss, only players from other positions have established themselves in the NFL, and in time your theory will become a falsity.

  6. I liked the way he stepped straight up into the pocket on the deep ball to Price. This is one thing Bledsoe was always very good at. Many young (especially young and mobile) quarterbacks will instead try to run around the edge of the outside rush, instead of just stepping up, and we've seen JP do that before. He showed progress, and that's the name of the game for a young starting quarterback. Here's to hoping he continues to improve.

  7. I liked what I saw out of Williams and Denney. I don't know if Williams made any tackles but he fought hard to hold the middle of the field against the run and I would've credited him with a hurry or two. Denney has really impressed me this whole preseason, and he played well against the run Saturday.

Crowell didn't do a whole lot, and I noticed them running successfully to his side of the field. I didn't, however, see exactly what he was doing on those plays so take it for what its worth.

Roscoe and Whitner were quiet and I didn't notice anything of Fowler.

  8. Those apopletic, screaming idiots tried to exist here, but they get tossed out and ultimately end up at the other board, known as The Land of Misfit Bills Fans. If anyone happens to visit that board, please let them know RJOSEPH WILL BE WITHTHEM SHORTLYAS SOON AS HE GETSANOTHER WOODY FOR WILLISSS!@!!!!

  9. Anybody hear anything about Youboty? Because I don't think I've heard his name since the draft. Talking to my brother yesterday I actually said that either Eric King would take over for Clements next year or we'd have to bring in somebody new, and he had to remind me that Youboty existed.

  10. It's simple. Holcomb is getting solid back-up QB money. If he drops to 3rd on the depth chart, do you think they're gonna keep him? No way.

    749917

Actually, it costs more to cut him than it does it to keep him, plus they'd have to pay a new guy to come in. We'll actually save a decent chunk of change by just letting Holcomb sit on the bench all year.

  11. I don't know, I could see both Wire and Bowen getting cut eventually in favor of Leonard becoming the backup SS, and in addition contributing on the coverage teams. Considering they'll likely be going 3-deep at FS (Vincent, Simpson, Baker) I don't see them keeping more than two strong safeties. If I were in charge, I'd want to keep a player like Leonard on the roster.

  12. This is good news that the Bills have rectified what I thought was a mistake. The second half of the Carolina game showed that Geisinger has no business whatsoever playing center and if Fowler went down the Bills season would be over. Moving both guys out of their natural position was silly, aprticularly when you're moving hte more talented player away from the more important position. I hope they are done with that experiment.

You should take a look at the following post, because with the information we have at this point it appears to be an accurate (and understandable) explanation:

they will only dress 7 OL for games, which means 1 "inside" backup (C + G) and 1 "outside" backup (T).  Since they knew Preston knows the center role they have been working him at guard to prepare him to be that "inside" backup.

    749097

It looks like they weren't actually moving Preston away from the center position, just giving him some reps at guard.

  13. Rueben was the most overrate player in Bills history, I dont care how many pro bowls he got voted too. Everytime I watched him i would cringe. I know I will be lambsated for this but i dont care, he had everyone fooled.

    749323

I agree completely, and I have no idea how he got into pro bowls year after year. He'd get hit with false starts and holding calls all the time, and overall was an above average offensive lineman. He got the reputation as an all-pro player and I guess nobody bothered to check up on his play, and instead he kept getting into pro bowls and keeping that reputation.
