  1. My Impressions/Ratings:

Fairley: Most scheme-versatile of the bunch. DT43 or DE34, you don't have to take him out. Most disruptive, nastiest in this draft

Dareus: Anchor-type stout lineman who is best run/pass combo of the bunch. Best fit for Bills current defense. Excels in run defense, passrush sacks too, a Ty Warren type, Defensive MVP in BCS Champ.2009, fluid, effortless, impossible for linemen to mirror, needs more muscle

Bowers: Best run defender, but most raw in pass rush right now with great potential, good first step, most upside, athletic build

Quinn: Tamba Hali type, a premier pass rusher, char issues but ++ OLB prospect in draft, loves contact, strong for size, +leverage, 2nd in NCAA in sacks- was DE so making transition to OLB and NFL, needs muscle, had brain tumor removed in HS

Clayborn: holds point well, might struggle as a RDE at next level- lacks speed, lacks 2ndary moves/agility. Doesn't show ability to dip shoulder or roll hips to turn corner. But--Orange Bowl MVP, hustles

that's scary about bowers being raw in pass rush.. this past year he had 15.5 sacks. :o

  2. And Carolina would certainly know what constitutes a "franchise QB". The organization that kept Delhomme for 2 seasons too long (as their "franchise QB")? ANd replaced him with Matt Moore? And just a few years ago pulled Vinny Testaverde off his couch to start for them??

Yet they can tell that Clausen, after 5 starts, isn't "franchise material"?

    Well how about that...

    agreed

to say that clausen isn't going to be a good nfl QB after 5 games is downright retarded.

  3. eh, tackles isn't really a great statistic to judge how good a DB is doing. But I do think he's having a better year than any other year I can remember him having before. He seems to be in the right place at the right time more often (hitting a receiver right as the ball gets there, etc)

  4. Becoming like clockwork at this point : )

He played better again lining up in the DE spot, but as others have pointed out, his tackling was lacking. Egregiously so on the big ben sack whiff.

I know you reflexively make excuses for kelsay, but "big ben is tough to take down" isn't even a good one. We aren't talking about a 180 lb defensive back getting shedded by ben on a blitz - kelsay's a defensive lineman for god's sake. He shouldn't be bouncing off any qb like a pinball on a 3rd and long play.

I give credit to kelsay for just getting in position to make that play, but he failed and ben's scramble set up the late field goal that gave pitt the lead.

If people are going to scream at stevie "you gotta make that catch!", then those same people should be telling chris "you gotta make that tackle!"

Btich all u want, but be consistent.

hahahaha what? Big Ben IS tough to bring down. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Z5dqelV_8s&feature=related

For reference, look at the Baltimore Ravens section of those highlights: He breaks two tackles on sack attempts: Trevor Pryce's and Terrell Suggs. Suggs is 260 and Pryce is 290. Pryce has 91 career sacks and Suggs has 65, so it's not like tackling QBs is anything new to these guys.

  5. 1] Edwards has a hamstring injury and is likely out a while, maybe the rest of the season,

2] Carrington not only had a sack but played well overall and showed a lot of production and promise. He will likely start next week unless Spencer Johnson is back and 100% and he didn't dress yesterday. Carrington will likely play a lot the rest of the year.

3] Maybin was in for three total plays. On one of them, Jonathan Scott was beat and was called for a holding penalty that negated a good play. On another one he looked like he was held, then chased Big Ben down for a tackle on the other side of the field after an 18 yard scramble. Some people thought he didn't get up quick enough from the apparent hold. I didn't see the replay to know either way. Maybin deserves to see some action on obvious passing downs the rest of the year. And likely will.

looks like maybin did a heck of a job on that play. and i'm wondering just how quickly a person can get up when a 300+ pound fatass in laying on top of you?

  6. WTF! I want Alabama to win but that personal fowl on Fairley was ridiculous that led to Bama's 3rd TD. When Auburn loses that will put TCU in the Championship game and then Ohio state can take on "sister of the poor" Boise.

    I agree.

Tim Tebow did more than that to celebrate a first down. that call definitely had me scratching my head.

  7. Sorry state of affairs. KW is a 4-3 DT while Nagata is a classic 3-4 nose tackle. Sadly DJ felt nagata was not a good fit for his cover-2

eh Ngata is talented enough to play any position on the line in any defensive scheme. as a matter of fact, he currently does play every position on the line at times.

  8. Casual fans forget the crucial errors Fitz has made that would be magnified if this team were in the playoff hunt or actually competing for the division. He threw a key INT against KC, another against CHI, and a pick 6 against Cincy. Every QB in the league throws picks, and occasionally at inopportune times (P. Manning last week, Brady in AFC Title Game 06) but the great ones don't do it as frequently as Fitzpatrick has. The margin of error is thinner that most casual fans realize, because essentially most Bills fans don't know what a franchise QB does week in and week out and what they do to win games.

In 8 games this season, Fitz has completed half or fewer than half of his passes 3 times. He's passed for under 150 yards twice and thrown two INT's four times and is completing about 58% of his passes. Fitz is a decent player playing above average for a bad football team. To ever be a good team, they'll need fewer mistakes from their QB in games against opponents better than Cincinnati and Detroit.

looking at the points allowed for our team, 276, i only see 3 teams with a worse number. i don't know if fitz is a quarterback that could be built around (i think he might be), but i'd think that if the offense weren't forced to feel like it has to score every possession his turnovers would be decreased.
