  1. Actually, the first unfavorable matchup of the postseason for the Jets. Roethlisberger is the antidote to the Ravens D. He's handled Rex before. On the other side, the greatest D coordinator in league history against Mark Sanchez. Everone is going to be on the Jets bandwagon but I think the Steelers are more than a little relieved at the outcome of that game. EVERYONE left in the playoffs is.

no doubt. i'm looking for wallace to get behind those slow safeties once or twice. doesn't matter how fast revis and cromartie are, nobody can stay with that guy. they'd better slam him off the line. or don't. i'd like pittsburgh to romp. the steelers' o-line is the big question mark.

  2. Honestly they both play very similar when they limit their mistakes. Sanchez does that better though, and obviously has progressed quicker. Would go with Sanchez but closer than you think.

Put it this way...if they traded places would there be a huge difference either way in the final record this season?

this is true. when sanchez makes quick reads he actually looks a lot like fitz. i think he is more accurate, but isn't quite as good as fitz at making the quick read. that td pass to tomlinson was a prime example of looking very fitz-like.

in a couple years, i think sanchez will be better. now they are about the same.

  3. No way Gabbert over Newton. Gabbert played in an offense that was designed to make it hard for a QB to make mistakes, yet he made many. Didn't step up in his team's 2 biggest games of regular season, which resulted in losses. Clumsy foootwork. Questions about his ability to read defenses. He's big, somewhat mobile and can make all the throws. But, he has a lot of the same question marks as Newton. Why not take Cam then over Gabbert? Newton's a freak of nature and his upside is through the roof.

gabbert has the best qb tools in the draft. beautiful release, strong arm. newton is a relative child. the only question is whether gabbert can learn to read defenses. this is a question for all college qbs, including luck. first to carolina seems too high though.

i watched about 40 throws of Gabbert ...ball comes out LOW....he will have alot of balls blocked/tipped by D-lineman. having said that, don't be surprised if he is the #1 QB off the board.

a bit low. not unlike rivers. but i don't view this as a fatal flaw. speaking as a scout (albeit not a football scout!) when you see two plus tools (delivery, arm strength) and an average to maybe above average in the future third (accuracy) then you have a real prospect. again, it depends whether or not he can read pro defenses and react. his college career doesn't show that. of course neither did sam bradford's or any other college qb's.

  4. It's stupid for a few reasons. First of all, he can't do any better than #1, which is where he would be drafted this year. All he can do is the same or worse by staying in school. Second, we have no idea what is going to happen with the new CBA. He could end up earning a fraction of what he would have made this year by coming out. Third, as much as I agree with Tolstoy about education, there is no age limit on when you can complete it. Fourth, life happens. There is no guarantee that he will not be injured on or off the field, in some unforseen or unfortunate manner. And lastly, the simple fact is that when you have the opportunity to become a multi-millionaire, you TAKE IT!!!

    agree. particularly point 3.

  5. I disagree. It was absolutely the wrong pick by Gailey to bring in Edwards.

This is how the Bills work. They bring in mediocre coach after coach. When they inevitably tank in a year or 2, some call for their heads, the rest say "just give them more time, better players.....etc.". Then after 3 years, they too are claiming the coach sucks and needs to go.

When Ralph finally admitting resigning DJ, he justified it by saying that coaching was not the Bills problem--it was the lack of quality players.

Now his mantra is being spoken by his disciples here.

    Lather, rinse, repeat.

you might be right. history doesn't inevitably repeat itself though. i get you, if i had to bet money i'd probably bet on your scenario coming to fruition. but there is not, as yet, enough evidence to make a definitive decision.

  6. i ran into marcus allen outside kelly's short-lived sports bar downtown. my friend asked if joe montana was coming back and marcus said, '**** man, i just don't know' and walked preety fast. that guy had long legs. good posture. did say 'you too' when i said 'take care', so he wasn't a complete prick. and my friend's question was stupid. and we were on mushrooms, though at the tail end of the trip.

a vicarious story, my dad was the buffalo raceway and gave fred smerlas a winning pick. smerlas and haslett were there. fred smerlas picked up my dad's two hundred fifty pound friend and jumped up and down.

  7. all heath shuler did was make plays. the guy was a stud. IS a stud. where is he? someone wake nix up to sign heath shuler. and robbie bosco. that guy made plays. yes, he was probably mormon. GET OVER IT! irrational faith (and what is faith if not irrationality) it has no bearing on his ability to read defenses. there are entire towns that worship him. The bills haven't shown any balls in years. the only solution is to go shuler, bosco in Fa and the best available TE at 3. doesn't matter if they don't go to harvard. grow a beard. get a wonderlic. i want some horses. not some damn pony like they use in mexico.

  8. Beerball is right.

Look, this defense was pretty decent last year. Yeah they lost Schobel, but come on---that is not a legitimate explanation for what happened to this defense.

It will take 50 years for this organization tot draft or otherwise assemble a highly talented defensive roster. Whereas they could quickly pick up a much better DC than Edwards.

This math is very easy to understand.

Anyway, Gailey won't fire Edwards because it would make him look really stupid--especially after he picked and subsequently fired the LAST Edwards on this team.

statistically the d was better under fewell, but it wasn't good. fewell had better personnel for his system and it had been in place for a couple years. but it wasn't good. it was probably never going to be great.

edwards didn't do anything to show he is a keeper. but the personnel was god awful. the secondary played much more man to man and was found wanting.

i'm not saying that i wouldn't rather have mike nolan or wade, but personnel (in relation to the D we're trying to run) is a problem. if we throw a few more real players in at LB and DE and it still isn't working, then it is clearly 'head of edwards' calling time. until then, i'm not sure and you shouldn't be either.

and i think there is no basis at all for saying gailey wouldn't make the move due to his pride.

Let's think this out logically. Could it be lack of talent? If they build the D-Line and get some LBs and keep the secondary intact, and if they get the right personel in here for 3-4 D, then we'll know for sure. I totally believe right now it's due to the lack of talent and right players to run the 3-4 D. As far as I'm concerned the jury is still out on Edwards. Let's give the coaches some talent before we through them under the bus people...

just read this. could have said +1. instead of reiterating.

  9. watched that game at casa di pizza or whatever that place is called on elmwood. best sunday afternoon ever. i honestly never stopped thinking we had a shot. houston was probably the only team in the league that could have given up that lead because they ran the run and shoot and couldn't run the clock down.

  10. First of all, I don't recall many "Brohm boys" unless that's your name for posters who look to see some evidence in actual play, before writing a guy off. If I recall correctly, your main evidence was that he was drafted in the second round and then cut (before being picked back up and put on the PS). That simply isn't evidence of any sort. As for his performances in preseason games, there were a few and he had good, and bad, efforts.

With that said, I am far from writing off Brohm based on his performance in this one game.

writing off may be drastic, based on the circumstances, but backup at best. i didn't like his inability to read the D. when one side of the line is overloaded, you have adjust the protection. fitz does this routinely. brohm just doesn't seem aware enough to be a starting qb. he made a couple good throws. that's it. no 'qb of the future' stuff on display today.

  11. i am looking forward to seeing george wilson next year. he has much better ball instincts than donte. he doesn't play the run as well, but, allah willing, we'll draft some linemen and our linebackers can start making tackles instead of our safeties.

  12. Saw 0.0 minutes of the game.

I thought of something listening though. The Johnson fumble (which I saw on replay) makes me wonder why you don't like this guy more. He's the Jason Peters of WRs. Talent coming out his eyeballs. 10 cent head that causes him to do completely boneheaded things.

watching that fumble and spiller idiotically trying to cover the fumble instead of knocking it out of bounds showed me that spiller and johnson are two of the dimmer bulbs on the bills.

fingers crossed that they learn from this year and get it together in 2011.

  13. Fitz had a bad game today but I disagree that it was the weather. The man has played well in cold weather the last 2 years. I think him having to work with second string WRs and no pass protection had a lot more to do with it. Can you think of another cold weather game he has not done well in?

That's fair. I reckon Evans comes down with some of those shots down the sideline. He was definitely forcing things today, but he always forces things a bit and they usually work out. the fumbles were uncharacteristic. Like I said, I wouldn't take anyone in the draft over Fitz right now. Maybe Luck, I suppose, but that isn't happening. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt as far as cold weather capabilities go for now.
