You don't think teams would be on the look out for more screens, for more quick passes?  Teams could focus on defending against that.

And you need good lineman, there's no getting around it.

Being on the lookout for out creates hesitation on the defensive line, no?  Which may be of assistance in pass blocking, wouldn't you say?

And you seem to miss the same point others are - unless you know of "good linemen" to pick between now and Sunday afternoon, this is what we have.  Saying we need "good linemen" does what, exactly?

you still need good linemen to run a screen play

In an ideal scenario, yes, you'd have five good linemen blocking for a screen play.  However, as things happen (like the subject of this thread), you work within the confines of what you have available.  Running more screens and quick passes helps to compensate for a line that can't hold pass protection for a typical longer-developing pass play.

I don't disagree. I'm just thinking of the almighty dollar.

So many great memories if that series. What was your favorite execution? I loved when Leotardo got it and his head got ran over.

Loved the Bevilacqua hit.  Giving him the false sense of security, a (diet) Fanta, and Tony saying "you finished?" before he and Bompensiero opened up on him.

I view it as purely budgeting-related, where the timing of it makes perfect sense. If you get these big projects on the books together its easier to plan for.

I'm not saying that creates a definitive argument for a downtown stadium, but that's all he says. Everything else he says is specific to the Buffalo situation.

If you haven't noticed, I vote for an open-air OP stadium anyway. Not that my opinion matters.

All of which I agree with.  My only criticism is throwing that in there without any surrounding support or context.  Hell, your post here provides more than that article did.

I don't consider that a comparison. He's noting that it's good timing, not equating the projects.

Even if it's interpreted that way, it still doesn't make sense.  The author's line of reasoning breaks down to: "well, you're now spending this money on Penn Station, which gets a ton of use, so it's time to spend a significant amount of money on a stadium, which gets relatively little use."

Did you read the article? He’s talking stadium, upgrades to Key Bank and infrastructure.

Let me guess - long time tailgating fan?

    Wrong, but not surprised.

I'm talking about the author of the article making the comparison, not Termini.  The portion of the article you quoted came from the author, did it not?

“Developer Rocco Termini is turning up the heat on the stance that the new Buffalo Bills stadium should be strategically located downtown. With news that Governor Kathy Hochul is dedicating around $6 billion to $7 billion to the refurbishment of Penn Station in NYC, Termini feels that it’s the perfect time to ask for $2.5 billion – $2 billion for a new stadium at Perry Street and $500 million for upgrades to the KeyBank Center arena. Ultimately, the combined investment into the two sports facilities would create a sports and entertainment district that would be built upon enhanced public transportation measures such as train and Metro Rail.

Termini Calling Upon Governor Hochul To Invest In Buffalo Sports and Entertainment District

Last I checked, Penn Station is used a wee bit more than a few hours on 8-12 days per year.  Dumb comparison.

Well said. And the NFL (historically) does not like getting to the discovery stage.

It's a bit tighter when it comes to the scope of discovery in federal court as opposed to state court (state court generally can be a free for all).  Statutory limits on interrogatories, no fishing expeditions for documents, etc.  If I'm defending, I always try to find any justification to make a removal to federal court if it's filed in state.  Just less shenanigans and stricter judges/judges' clerks.

I think what he's saying is that this case has some specific circumstances that won't apply to all future cases of relocation. If a future lease were expired or it could be proven that the league negotiated in good faith that would establish a different situation from what happened in STL thus the outcome would likely be different in that instance.

If I read that incorrectly feel free to correct me.

That's what I read from the post as well.

This doesn’t establish a precedent. If the lease is expired or they negotiate out in good faith, the nfl will not be fined.

It's a slippery slope.  I'm a lawyer, and I've defended companies who've been alleged to have acted in bad faith (when clearly they had not), but judges generally are reticent to grant a dispositive motion to remove claims unless it's overwhelmingly clear.  In federal court, it's even tougher.  I've defended clients in both arenas.  The question comes down to: what exactly is bad faith?  You need the discovery process (exchange of written documents, depositions) to bear that out.

I grew up in that neighborhood. We used to play football in the grassy fields along Memorial Drive. It's even worse now. If you did build a stadium there hoping for redevelopment you'd have a very long wait. Then again, the foot of Main, now Canalside, was nothing for a long time too.

My family owned a number of businesses in that neighborhood.  Would love to see it come back.

That's exactly why it's not going downtown

The states not paying for a 1.5 billion dollar stadium and then another that in infrastructure

It's in place in orchard Park

Doesn't necessarily have to be all NYS money for the infrastructure part.

As a season ticket holder, our group puts 100% effort into the tailgate experience, and it’s great … at least for the first month or two of the season.  As October rolls into November, the allure of tailgating fades as the game experience becomes more of a “fight the elements” experience, and as you head north of 60 (yes, you youngsters will get there too), the idea of enjoying a good meal and drinks in a warm downtown restaurant before a short walk to enjoy a game in a DOME becomes more and more appealing.  There are game days where you feel like you went a few rounds with Tyson after being in the elements for the better part of eight hours.

Forget north of 60, I recently hit north of 30 and I agree with all of this.
