  1. Back in the 1970's the population within the City was still over 450,000 putting Buffalo as the 28th largest city in America. The metro population of Buffalo is still over 1.1 million today and that is not taking into account S. Ontario and Rochester

Buffalo in total size is relativly small compared to many other NFL cities, ie: see San Diego with a (so I was told) 50 mile city limit. If Buffalo's city limit was 50 miles it wouldn't surprise me if the population was in the 1-2 million range and that's not counting Southern Ontario as you pointed out.

The "talking heads" that sprew nonsense about Buffalo being a small market just show how truely ignorant they are.

There are more than enough people in WNY, Southern Ontario and Rochester and beyond to sell out RWS.......easy!!!! Ten years without making the playoffs and maybe one or two games didn't sell out in time to lift the TV black-out; & those games did sell out !!

The only thing that is missing here is not enough consistant corporate purchases of the suites and to a lesser extent club seats.

  2. As someone else suggested, it's very possible that the 14 year old has younger siblings. Even if that's not the case, does it really count as "pussification" when the kid is sticking it to the babysitter?

I was agreeing with Joe Miner and indirectly responding to DC Tom's "What 14 year old needs a sitter?" At 14 there was no sitter. Niether at 13 did anyone watch; nor at 12 when I first used a 12 guage on birds did I ever get "babysat" !!! So ya to see that a 14 year old today needs a babysitter is in my book the "pussification" of teenage boys not that the kid was banging his babysitter. Good for him BTW. What constantly horny 14 year old boy doesn't dream about doing this exact same thing with some pretty lass? Think back to the time when you were 14 HONESTLY GUYS, there had to be at least one girl you dwelled on the coud make your Rocketship 7 take off for the moon. Today the thought police clamp down on kids that just want to be friends

I've seen it over and over by overly protective parents who coddle their kids. I was involved in scouting a few years back and the reasons these parents gave for not allowing their kid to go camping (this is Boy Scouts who do go camping BTW) just floored me. "Johnny will get homesick" "Mikey might get poison ivy" "Alex doesn't know how to swim"....ya we thaught them to swim BTW, at least the ones who were allowed to go to camp and that grand-daddy of all excuses "we don't allow richie to be alone with other people" That poor kid was screwed for life and not by some pretty young thing

  3. That was the same thing I was thinking.

Same here...the pussification of young American males just gets worse and worse. 14 and needs a babysitter. Are his parents nuts or what??? At 14 I was already hunting on my own with the other farm kids, drove tractor and picked crops for spending money. I remember being told...if you want it, work for it and I did.

  4. I didn't see any reports for today's camp so I thought I'd put mine up. This is nowhere near the detail Michael Thomas provides in his report, but I hope you enjoy anyway:

    August 1st Camp Notes

I attended my first Buffalo Bills training camp of the year at St. John Fisher College in Pittsford, NY. It ran from 3 to 5:30pm.

It was pretty damn hot out there. Kind of a light crowd out there today which is what I prefer. I made a mistake when I first arrived assuming they would be practicing on the longer field (which they've done in years past) but I was wrong. They did the majority of the practice on the split fields. I assume it has to do with the turf. Anyways, lets get to fine points of the day...

    •
    • Levi Brown had a pretty brutal day -- misfiring and throwing near picks like you wouldn't believe.
    • Josh Nesbitt, who was playing the role of QB today (until Brad Smith and Thigpen can participate, which is August 4th) was just as bad. No wonder this guy is listed as a DB.
    • Kyle Williams was a big time disruption, consistently getting in the backfield. Dareus eating up double teams will make Kyle Williams into an even bigger star this year.
    • Dwan Edwards, a guy who I almost forgot about, had a few nice plays including batting down a Fitzpatrick pass (something he's vulnerable to) that led to a
Shawne Merriman pick. Well, at least I think it was an interception. Edwards was having a strong year prior to his injury last year. Here's to hoping he can bounce back from his injury.
    • Maybin looked tiny next to Merriman. This shouldn't matter so much to me but it does. He did show some speed on a run play, tracking down the RB (can't remember who it was)
    • Johnny White, running back from North Carolina, physically resembles Marion Barber. He runs like him too. This guy could contribute this season if he can get some carries which will be a tough task with the Bills seemingly ready to put CJ Spiller in a feature role, next to Fred Jackson.
    • Geoff Hangartner looked small next to his fellow linemates.
    • Andy Levitre, on the other hand, looked bigger than ever. Oh and I noticed the new haircut and mustache.
    • Donald Jones, a surprise contributor from last season, made some nice plays today in his limited time on the field. This guy has some serious speed.
    • Reggie Corner came off the PUP list and made a nice play today. He's had a forgettable tenure with the Bills thus far. May have a tough time making the team this year with the new additions.
    • Shawne Merriman made some nice plays again today. That would make it a few days in a row of looking good for him. We just need him to stay healthy. If I see him starting on September 11th against the Chiefs, I'll be excited. This guy seems to have all the tools to be a player but can he keep that Achilles healthy?
    • Fitzy made some nice, tight short throws today. The long ball was a bit off again today although he did throw a beautiful 50 yard bomb to Stevie Johnson who was double covered but had a chance to make the catch. Perfect placement of the ball on Fitzy's behalf.
    • Lots of short throws and screen passes today..
    • Did I mention how awful Levi was? Sorry, nothing personal Levi, it's just that I expected better. I can't wait to see what Tyler Thigpen can do. Please be better than what I saw out of our backups today.
    • I'm still trying to adjust to McKelvin and CJ Spiller's number switch.

Read the rest here. Or not.

Good write-ups, thanks mucho......Geoff (knocked on his butt often) Hangartner looked small. Doesn't surprise me one bit

  5. I am begging anyone out there to help start a real sports radio station in Buffalo. It's the start of training camp, free agency is crazy, and it's the NFL, yet, the two afternoon hosts on GR are talking about movies? Movies???? Are you kidding me?? What a joke of a station! Shame on the callers who kept calling in to talk about it too.

Call or write the sponsors that WGR's programming is no longer worth your time listening to and you will not buy their product because you associate extreme negativity toward their product because of their relationship with WRG radio.

I did a few years ago and if more people followed suit the programming would change. Oh and I never listen to that childish babble anymore. I figure if anything positive happens with the supposed sports talk about the Bills; someone here I know will post the news that WGR has changed. Until then 'GR is off my radar.

  6. Thank you my friend. I have been saying this for months. And btw, I think the same of Boss. Actually, I might even prefer him believe it or not. He can block AND provide a big, clutch weapon.

Keeping my fingers crossed. We deserve some good news.

So far the only good news here is that the Bills are giving us Club seat holders free grub and drink at ALL the night practices. Not "one" like in the past. Maybe they are trying to make up for the fact that most of the heated seats are busted and can't be fixed

BTW just sign the guy. If the Bills thought they were set at RT there wouldn't be didilly squat mentioned about Clabo in the same breath as the Bills. I'll say it again, don't blame Buddy Nix if we don't land this guy it will fall squarely on Wilson's bean counters.

  7. Quote from his agent (typo corrected since ProFootballWeekly has no decent editors):

"I have so much respect for the Buffalo organization," Posluszny's agent, Mike McCartney, told the
    Buffalo News
. "They did everything the could to keep him. … But he felt more comfortable in a 4-3 defense. He felt he came into the league playing the Mike in the 4-3. I want to emphasize how much respect I have for Jim Overdorf and the Bills. It was a tough decision."

Bills were out of luck in this case since he wanted to go back to 4-3 defense which he felt more comfort in and probably felt he would have better career in.

Thanks Glenn. The Bills should have stayed in a 4-3 but we have a DC George Edwards that doesn't have a clue on how to run it. This was Chan's call; the 'ol coaching buddy-buddy system at its worst and Nix would never tell Gailey (again the good 'ol boy coaching network) who to hire. Ralph Wilson might have questioned in his younger days the hiring of a DC that planned revamping a defense with so few players onboard that could play in it. That will never happen again as RW's mind now is one degree this side of mush and that's sad both for Mr. Wilson and the Bills team. The Bills are left with 2 non-football types (a lawyer and a former marketing guy) calling all the shots. Nix answers to them and one of the biggest con games out there is the perception that Buddy Nix can go after this or that player without asking pretty please first. None of these guys would last one hour under different ownership !!!

  8. That is nuts.

But please, as if the "freedom toast" and "freedom fries" movements were any less nuts.

Ya those responses were sophomoric by a rather insignificant number of Americans. What the "French government" by making it illegal to speak these words at all is outright censorship. Just because they are Anglo in origin, they ban them??? Pansy-a$$ed sissies

  9. Donald Trump is not a Bills fan, or a Giants fan or a fan of any team. Donald Trump is a fan of:

    1) Donald Trump

    2) Publicity/attention for Donald Trump

    3) Money for Donald Trump

    4) Hot young blondes for Donald Trump

    Agreed 1 thru 4

    Congrats on the 20G

  10. Understand your point, please understand that I am over 6000 miles away and I have found this place to get a taste of home. do I take it personnel, hell yeah. I don't have too many options to stay in contact with my roots. When I see someone talking about my beloved bills, it hits close to the heart. you should understand and thanks for checking back.

I don't mean to hijak Jimmy's thread, but this can't be said enought times: Thanks for your service to our great country.

    Been there, done that

  11. Well, just doing my part to chime in on one of those draft day threads that make me love this place...

If I had to give CBS Sports.com a grade, I'd give them a D. I have heard of them. They have reporters - step above Bleacher...but how often do you think, hmm, I have to go check that site out.

CBS Sports.com I give a D. Maybe in 4 years it will develop...

Not by much....CBS Sports is a Micky Mouse run organization

  12. Gabbert may seem laid back because he's confident and SUPER smart...I don't think that Kid believes there is anything that is going to hold him back...And since when did Missouri become this National Powerhouse that is expected to beat everyone?...They beat Texas A&M and Oklahoma in 2010...Just watch that tape from the Insight Bowl vs. Iowa...Watch that Kid sling the Ball around...Then add to it the fact that he's not just good but a great athlete at QB, his Wonderlic score was a 42, his Teammates say he was an excellent leader, he went out on his own and talked to NFL QB's about what to expect and what would be expected of him in the league...Take away the Offense he HAD to run at Missouri and that Kid is the consensus #1 overall Pick...If he went to Florida St or USC he would be #1 Overall and there would not be any question about it...

Gabbert has things to overcome for sure...But honestly he seems to have the mental and physical make-up to excel once he gets it...Buffalo is a perfect landing spot for him too...He's got Gailey here and he won't be expected to start right away...I just don't see much downside with that Kid...But we'll see in a few years...I do understand how Folks are iffy about spending #3 overall on a QB...But if Gabbert looks like Bradford looked last year a couple years from now believe me no one is going to be saying #3 overall was too high for the Kid... B-)

As much as I would rather see the Bills try to trade down it would not surprise me if they drafted Gabbert. Even though Buddy Nix has always been a straight shooter when discussing players and I take with the proverbial grain of salt what is said leading up to the draft, I found it interesting about them having had Gabbert rated highly all along. Then there was Gailey's statement about waiting to draft a QB of the future and if you do it's too late. A drafted QB would have time to learn behind Fritz who will be a FA and could possibly leave for greener pastures elsewhere. This has been the Bills MO in the past, draft a player to replace a player you think might not be around next year. Or the Bills might be of the opinion that there is no QB on their roster right now that they believe can win them a Super Bowl.

The thought of drafting Ponder is a nice thought but what happens if he's gone by our second pick? Many teams have been burned by if-comes. Again I remember Nix saying if you have a conviction on a player (in reference to trading down) you don't take a chance of him being there at that pick, you take him. Extend that mindset to the third pick. If the Bills have a conviction on Blaine Gabbert, he will be the pick.
