  1. Go back and read Fezmids post that I was responding to. He asked me a hypothetical question of "if I believed it were illegal", and I responded hypothetically, "Even if I believed it were illegal, like Mickey says, its not enforceable" You've turned this into something about 'beliefs', stop it, it's annoying.
  2. Sharing files and downloading shared files is two different things. Someone else may be sharing the files with anyone who wants them but that doesn't mean you have share your own files. There are settings, you can choose to share or not to share weather the other person does or not. You can elect not to share with a person who doesn't share. That's what settings are for. We don't share for the simple reasons of internet security.
  3. I got a burned copy (not for me silly) on ebay of Eminem's very first record that he sold out of the trunk of his car before he hit it big. This was about 6 months ago I bought it.
  4. I already said no, Fez. Even if I believed it were illegal, like Mickey says, it's not enforceable. Deal with it.
  5. No. It's file sharing. But I do not allow him to share HIS files. I've never shared my files either, when downloading music. I also do not allow him to make copies for anyone else. It's only for his own personal use. He understands this. I personally do not have KaZaa on my laptop, nor does my husband have it on his computer, simply because that program takes over everything and causes more problems than it's worth. Some on here have blown this way out of proportion. We're talking about a 15 year-old kid who is in school all day, comes home and does his homework and then has hockey games or practices EVERY day for any one of the three different hockey teams he's on. He also has out-of-town hockey tournaments at least one weekend a month. He's lucky if he gets one or two hours a day on his computer. If he wants to download a couple movies here and there to pass the many hours he spends traveling back and forth to hockey, then no, I don't have a problem with that.
  6. Yes, I did, but we both posted at the exact same time, so they crossed.
  7. This from a loser hiding behind an unregistered name who actually was pathetic enough to go read his mattress tag !
  8. Well, what about ebay? Sellers are openly selling and distributing copied music, movies and software, and people are buying it. If it's illegal then why no repercussions there?
  9. It's called 'file sharing'. If it's illegal why is KaZaa operating? Why is WinMX operating? Along with many, many others? Why haven't they been shut down? Go to ebay, you'll find all kinds of copied movies, music and software for sale, no problems there. For what it's worth, he didn't ask me for my help, I decided to look into it on my own.
  10. Thanks to those of you who offered suggestions, we figured it out. Works like a charm now . No matter what some of you want to tell yourselves, there's nothing illegal about downloading shared files. If it were truly illegal and prosecutable, there'd be untold millions of people in jail right now for downloading music and movies. I think it's time for you to move on and fixate on something else more important, like who illegally removes the tags from their mattresses and pillows, when it clearly states "Do not remove this tag under penalty of law". I must confess, I cut all the tags off of my pillows as soon as I buy them. I guess I should be on the lookout for the pillow police . But hey, I'm sure all of you fellows with the sticks up your asses still have those tags on your mattresses and pillows and would never dream of cutting them off so don't worry you're still holier-than-thou! (I wonder how many of you are pathetic enough to run and check for those tags right now )
  11. Go back and read one of my last posts, I said less than 100 and I said he doesn't share, it's for his own personal use. His computer is not on 24/7, (he does have a life, unlike some) and he's not distributing any files to others. Call it whatever suits your fancy, I along with millions of other people, call it sharing files. To me, it's no different than taping a movie off the tv. Did you know that Sony sells mp3 players? And they also sell blank cd-rw's, cd-r's, dvd-rw's and dvd-r's? BLANK! How stupid do you think they are? They cash in on the very things they are against. Isn't it ironic?
  12. I was being sarcastic, I guess my humor is lost on you !
  13. Nope, he's very expensive. But, what does he have to do with this?
  14. I'm sure Sony realizes that the problem isn't a 15 year-old kid.
  15. Holy cow!! Doesn't anybody work during the day? I leave for a little while and the crap hits the fan! Anyway, thanks to those who offered suggestions, we'll figure it out. As for those of you who attacked my parenting, I sleep very well at night, thank you. My son isn't stealing anything, he's downloading 'shared files', I guess it all depends on how you interpret it. The comparisons some of you have drawn between downloading to going to someone's house and physically stealing something to assualt, are downright comical. The movie industries aren't going to bother him, it's the people who actually set up sites like WinMX and KaZaa and that make these movies available, that the industries are after. My son doesn't make these movies available for others, it's for his own personal use. And when I said tons, I meant less than 100, not thousands. And I do buy dvd's, all the time. In fact, I just bought Spiderman 2. Some of you guys are so uptight! Don't sweat the small stuff, because my 15 year-old downloading a movie is really inconsequential in the grand scope of things. For those of you that are holier-than-thou and stifle your kids with do and don't's, and preach perfection, I feel sorry for you 'cause your kids are definately not going to confide in you when it counts, and are more than likely going to rebel and disappoint you.
  16. And I thought you knew everything Darin! I'm not a union employee, my husband is. So you're wrong there. And tell me what brethren you're talking about that he's screwing over? And in what industry? Do you even know? He's a skilled tradesman. A lot of tradesmen belong to unions. We get it Darin, you're anti-union. We're not. We reap union benefits, you don't. So what? Are you jealous or something? I guess you're not so smart after all. Just a miserable prick with nothing to add to a thread as usual. You can't even stay on topic. I feel sorry for you Darin, I think you need therapy to help you deal with your antisocial behavior and this incessant need you have to insult others simply because they don't see things exactly your way. Pitiful and pathetic as you are, you do need help. You're a very ugly person, Darin.
  17. Felonious? He's not downloading porn, Darin. And I do monitor his internet activities. I pick my battles with my son, and until I hear of a 15 year old going to jail for downloading SlapShot, this isn't an imminent battle. There are worse things. I at least have the piece of mind that he's well adjusted enough not to grow up to be a hateful, miserable prick like you.
  18. He doesn't share, there are settings for that. The same goes for WinMX, there are settings for sharing that you can disable. But thanks for the input.
  19. Okay, I need a little expertise in this area, as it is simply not my forte. My son downloads tons of movies from KaZaa and has a dvd burner/player on his computer (eMachines T3092) But the software (Nero?) that came with it is lousy (or so he says) and he can't figure out how to transfer his downloaded movies to a dvd disc. The movies play fine on his computer but getting them on the dvd disc just isn't happening. It just won't happen for some reason. Is there some kind of software that he can use to decode these movies (some are encrypted, I think? He does have Dvix, whatever that is...) and get them on dvd? I know some movies that are store bought are copyright protected and can't be copied, is there a way around this? He has a small dvd player that he takes on hockey tournaments with him and wants to be able to watch some of these movies on that device. This is for his own personal use and no one elses. Any software recommendations?

  21. Hockey is second to none. I got to watch my freshman son score his first varsity goal this morning in his first high school varsity game! Yeah, I'm a proud mama! If it wasn't for him playing so much hockey I'd be pulling my hair out missing the Sabres. But I do hope the NHL sticks to their guns and comes back next year with a cap. Replacement players or not. The ones that are scabbing in Europe can stay there. Hypocrits. They'll play over there for a few hundred thou but won't play here for a few mill, go figure!
  22. I've never been there myself but for about the last 20 years, my parents have been vacationing there for two weeks every other year. The first few times they went they divided their time between three different islands. Now they spend the entire time on Maui. I believe they helicoptor over to Honolulu (I think it is?) for a day or so, but otherwise they absolutely love Maui. They are also fortunate enough to stay in the same condo every time they go, and have gotten to know the area pretty well. If they didn't have three grandsons back home they'd never come back, or so they say! They've got some beautiful pictures to die for from over there. One thing that that blows my mind is that of all the times my parents have been there it only rained once for about ten minutes! They always go in march, so maybe that has something to do with it. Enjoy it, I know my mom and dad do!
