  1. I realise that we’re supposed to clown on this thread, but I want to respond. Cook didn’t hold out! He was a full participant at Minicamp and isn’t causing problems in the locker room. He’s making social media noise, which annoys fans, but he is going to play regardless. For this season, this is a non-story. Do I wish that it was a WR who was so good that he had outplayed his contract and was making harmless noise for more money? Yes. Yes I do.

From the few Steelers’ fans I know, this is one move they like. They feel Fitzpatrick is on the decline, which I disagree with to the extent you move on.

They feel Ramsey or Slay transition to a safety role.

    What are your thoughts?

Fans always talk about CBs transitions to safety to talk themselves into trades for aging CBs.

So I don't have Darnold in the "franchise" club in any definition. I get the "he got paid" condition, but he has one moderately successful year as a starter. His other years starting have been dismal. Financially he and Baker are on a par but Baker has had three playoff years as a starter, and has played pretty darn well in the playoffs.

So once you throw Darnold out.... you are left with TLaw and Murray. I have Lawrence in penultimate place ahead of Kyler, probably on the basis that Kyler it totally anti-clutch, he plays his worst when you need his best AND I think he is the most likely of the bottom end "franchise" guys not to be on his current team in 2026. But I wouldn't really fight against someone putting those two the other way around. I think Kyler has generally been more consistent in helping his offense move the football.

Lawrence is such an interesting case. All the physical gifts are there, but he lacks mental resilience. I think that vaunted 68-game winning streak in high school and college meant that he never learned to pick himself off the mat. It just came so easy for him; he was always the best guy on the best team. When the losing started in Jacksonville, a sort of apathy set in from which he has yet to recover. It also doesn't help that the entire organization in Jacksonville seems like an afterthought. If Jacksonville decides to cut bait and he goes to the Steelers next offseason, I think we might see a Mayfield-like resurrection.

My take is that he has an 8 figure amount stashed away in hidden assets and this is just another ploy to avoid paying his rightful debts.

AB is notorious for welching on his debts, and not paying his help, contractors, etc.

Exactly. Wealthy people don't go broke. They declare bankruptcy all the time and keep their jets and houses. They stash half in the Caymen's or in Switzerland and declate themselves broke to get out of paying debts. Then they do it again in a few years.

No, that is the NY Jets and Cleveland Browns of the NFL.

I think it's hard for people not in WNY to understand how little attention the NHL gets in the U.S. in non-traditional hockey markets. I live in Cincinnati. We have an NHL team an hour and a half away in Columbus, and they might as well not exist. The Cavs get a lot more attention here, and Cleveland is three hours away.

Uhhh it was at the time. The guy was great and hadn't gone off the rails

People forget that. At that time, he only looked like a locker room distraction like TO. The real crazy didn't seep out until he got to the Raiders. The Steelers tight organization hides a lot of crazy. Rule #1. If he's too crazy for Tomlin, he's far too crazy for you. Cowboys are about to learn this lesson the hard way.

Honestly asking because I havent googled: what is the story with shemar stewart? he already get in trouble before?

Not at all. They just got burned by Jermaine Burton last year so they wanna rewrite the boilerplate contract language so they can keep drafting bad dudes without paying the financial price.

Don't know the details of the dispute and don't care. I read somewhere that no first round pick has ever had the language the bengals are looking for in their contract, and that's all you need to know.

Clown organization. Burrow vs Allen in the Superbowl will be fun in a few years after he is traded to the NFC.

They want the ability to draft guys with character "concerns" and not have to pay the cost when the issues inevitably arise. They got burned by Jermaine Burton just this past year. That's what this is about. And lookie here! Pac Man Jones is still getting arrested: https://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/2025/06/11/adam-pacman-jones-pleads-not-guilty-to-assaulting-officer/84136075007/

Without getting into the details of the contractual language (which I don't know), I'll just say this:  the Bengals seem to be more interested in winning arguments than they do football games.

Shemar Stewart agrees with you. Here is a quote from him:

"I'm not asking for nothing y’all (the team) has never done before,” Stewart said. “But in y’all (the team’s) case, y'all (the team) just want to win arguments (more) than winning more games."

Good information.  Thanks.  The Bengals have more of a cash issue that creates the cap issue.  Restructuring contracts to push the cap hit down the road means be more willing to have cash in hand to pay now.  Mike Brown is cheap and this idea that Joe Burrow has changed the way the Bengals do business is a myth.

Mike Brown is not cheap. He's poor for an NFL owner. His only valuable asset is the small-market team.

All their chips?  The Eagles just literally won the Super Bowl paying their two WR's and QB near top of the market money.  Don't tell me it can't be done.

Jeffery Lurie has a metric 💩 ton of cash and spends it kicking cap hits down the road. Mike Brown does not.

Slightly surprising in terms of timing.

Did have a poor season in 2024 though. If this happened in March I'd not have been as surprised.

While I don't think he is a high end MLB he wasn't exactly expensive so having made it to June it's a tad odd.

I have long given up trying to understand what the Bengals do, but they do have a new DC. It makes some sense that he might have wanted to see everyone in person in offseason workouts before deciding who to release.
