  1. Thank you. I doubt there is any fanbase in the NFL better able to come up with excuses NOT to draft a QB.

I can't speak for the rest of the fanbase, but personally I would be happy if we drafted a QB in the 1st round every 2nd or 3rd year till we find our franchise QB. This year is not one of those 2nd or 3rd years(due to TT).

  2.

It's unlikely a QB taken after the 1st rd will get a second contract with a team because it's unlikely he'll be given a chance. Still this statement is false David Garrard got a 2nd contract. Sure their are others like Frank Reich who were career backups. Which at the least this team needs.

My appologies, I can see that I wasn't exactly clear. I was not referring to finding a backup QB. I should have said "QBs who become good starters for many years".

I have no problem with people wanting to draft a QB after pick 36 in order to find a serviceable backup. But people should keep in mind that a serviceable backup QB is not a good QB. Odds of finding a good QB after pick 36 are extremely slim.

  3. Atta boy! Exactly the drafting philosophy that has made the Bills great.

I think it safe to assume that the Bills won't(shouldn't) draft a QB in the 1st round this year. As 2016 is the season where we make a decision on TT's future, a 1st round pick on a QB now could potentially be a huge waste of resources.

In the past 30 years there has only been 2 QBs drafted after the top 36 picks that have seen a second contract with their drafting team(Brady, Wilson). Those resources(picks 37+) are by far more likely to find you a Darby or Kyle Williams than a solution at QB.

  4.

Yup. You probably have to allocate 5-7 million for the rookie pool.

    Yes and no.

Though it's true that the rookie contracts will come to $5M+, the cap typically is not impacted to anywhere near that amount. The cap is determined from the top 51 contracts. At the moment our #51 contract is giving us a $0.45M cap hit. The lower round cap hits don't come to that level so they would not push up our cap expenditure in any way....and the high rounds would be added into the list of 51, thus pushing the $0.45M cap hit out of the top 51. In essence, the #2 draft pick who would likely get about $1M would only effect the cap by around $0.5M.

  5.

.....Or maybe old Ben Kenobi had a piece on the side

She's way too young for that to be the case. The bigger question is....why does she seem pre-trained? She can understand BB-8 and Wookie...is an expert pilot...expert fighter...adapts to the Force like never seen before. How did she even think of using mind control, let alone using the exact method that the masters have shown in prior movies. My guess is that Ray has had her memory wiped/altered.

  6.

    Yes.

Personnel upgrades that I trust Whaley to make, but none more important that S and LB's.

Does it not bother you that we locked up a massive amount of cap dollars in a DL that is wasted with a Rex Ryan scheme?

Does it not bother you that Rex effectively stated that the defense was already built?

Does it not bother you that "the plan"....to have a stellar D(already built) and add some star value to the O to make it competent in order to potentially have a 2-3 year window to make a run.....is now effectively blown up as we need to re-up the defensive talent because of Rex's scheme?

I have never been so disheartened as a Bill's fan as I am now. We finally were going in the right direction....and then the hubris and disingenuousness of Rex derails the whole thing.

  7. IMO this is all Pegs fault. Having a non-football brain(Terry) being advised by several other non-football brains(Kim, Brandon) on big football decisions(HC hire) is really just a rich kid playing with his billion dollar toy.

Why get a Czar? Surely your GM is paid to be able to make the big football decisions. If you don't trust that he can, you need to fire him and get in somebody who you can trust. As long as Pegs wants to be hands on in the football decisions I feel we will be relying on luck rather than ability to build a good team.

I am a Bills fan. This means that if I owned any of the other 31 teams I would have a great time playing with my billion dollar toy. But as a Bills fan, if I owned the Bills.....there is no way that I would tinker with the football operations. I would pay the best people to do the job....and if they failed, I would attempt to find the best people to replace them. I would let the General Manager do his job and manage the team.

  8. you didn't get it. your clearly not seeing it.

I had put you're when your was applicable and even just now put your when it should be you're. :nana:

I have to admit, my brain totally skipped over it.....and as a result have added at lease one extra level of humour to the interaction.

I am now sitting here chuckling at myself.:lol:

  9.

insubordination is simply not listening, not complying or obeying the commands of superiors.

mutiny is a willfull act to not obey authority or superiors in order to remove that authority or superior

go back to ppp, brah. this is my land.

    in your defense, here.

as a verb, mutiny is the same, but as a noun... which is where we are differing - yeah...

I don't get it. You can know and eloquently explain the difference between two relatively uncommonly used words.....yet you still don't seem to know the difference between "then" and "than". :P

  10. he was asked in August if he would restructure and he asked why would he do that, he signed a contract. He was then asked if he wanted to retire in Buffalo and he said that he was too young to even think about retirement. Sal Capaccio actually just brought up that quote the other day on radio. I actually have never seen him publically state he was happy to restructure, but if he did, he must have changed his mind as far as what is in his best interest.

More importantly, a simple restructure won't provide cap relief based on how his contract is set up. They would need to extend him. And he would need to agree to an extension.

    Thanks for that.

He definitely had said(prior to being disenfranchised by Rex's system...so to speak) ...on more than one occassion, that he was very happy to restructure to keep the gang together.

On the aside, I was never happy with that concept(for strictly money/cap reasons), and was pleased we found a way to sign guys without restructuring Mario.

  11. .....Mario didn't want to restructure.....

    Just on this part....

I've seen that comment bandied around here recently and it seems contrary to my recolections. As I recall, Mario publically stated several times that he was happy to restructure(when cap issues were raised about resigning and extending Hughes and Dareus).

Was there an article or quote that I missed somewhere on this topic?

  12. no, I don't really put much stock in what he or most coaches say publically actually. Especially him. He should be in the Lego Movie. "everything is awesome... Everything is cool when you're part of a team..."

Yeah, I was being facetious. I was attempting to make the point (in a backhanded manner) that Rex was either incompetent in his thoughts, or outright lied when he joined the Bills. We locked up the players that Rex was pontificating and virtually salivating over.....only to find out that, no, we don't have the personel to be a dominating defense under Rex, and the supposed dominating defensive roster now has to be pulled apart in order for Rex to work his magic.

  13. wgr brought up the question this morning: is the fact that Mario says they don't have the ideal personnel to most effectively run this defense actually good news? Like, there is hope that given a NT, new MLB, new Safety... It actually can be much better?

I believe in trusting the coach. Rex clearly stated that he expected the #1 defense in the league with this roster, so there is no reason to start second guessing him. He's the genius after all....he's the one who really should know what makes his defense tick, shouldn't he?

  14. The article raised two very salient points which make the rest of its points moot and its conclusion illiogical.

According to the article, Rex failed to understand that his blitz-crazy scheme was not needed in Buffalo, as unlike at the Jets, we have the personel to apply preasure 1-on-1.

Also according to the article, Rex's blitz-crazy scheme is outdated and nigh obsolete in today's NFL.

Considering the concept that Rex couldn't see or get past his penchant for using his blitz-crazy scheme when it wasn't needed, is there any reason to believe that he will be able to see that it has become generally ineffective in today's NFL?

And furthering to that, when one considers that his reputation for successful and inovative defense is pretty much based upon a scheme that is now mostly obsolete, is there any reason to believe that without that defensive scheme (even if he can get past his predilection for using it) that Rex could be anything more than an average at best HC(or DC)?

  15. I have agreed with a vast majority of the refs rulings on these lineball catches this season. The rules are well defined and in most cases the refs deciscions are clearly following those rules.

The problem as I see it is that the standard fan is having trouble undestanding the rules....and a lot of this is due to the commentators not understanding them. When Collinsworth asks for "objective" rules, not "subjective" ones just minutes after espousing the "if a kid watches it he would call it a catch" mentality...it shows that even the best commentator has no idea what they are talking about.

The NFL should invest in a rules training course for media commentators and a lot of the discord regarding this would be largely disipated.

  16. Just when you think the Pats have exhausted all possible avenues for cheating, deception, and overall scumbaggery, they once again find a way to outdo themselves.

It would appear that the Patriots have somehow found a way to even cheat the coin toss. the Pats have won 19 of the past 25 coin flips. The odds of that happening are 0.0073 - less than three quarters of one percent.

    http://www.patspulpit.com/2015/11/4/9672716/the-patriots-cheat-at-coin-flips-too

    Their maths is a little out....should be 0.0053 (1 in 189.5)

Obviously this is still way outside expected norms.
