1. Let's just do a quick review of what we know:

    - Ourlads, arguably the most respected indepedent draft service out there, pretty much predicts this guy will be a bust. http://www.stadiumwall.com/index.php?showtopic=44966

    - He has a history of nagging injuries, including a rebuilt knee

    - He has a history of taking plays off

    - He has a history of wearing down in games, which may be related to the taking plays off

    - His position, DT, has a history of notable top 10 busts.  Sure, there are other positions with this history as well, but DT is among them.  (OT, for example, does not have this history, with only Mike Williams being a proven out and out bust over the past 15 years as a top 10 pick.  Gallery could be #2).

    - He has good talent but he also has a body type that can take years to start to dominate (probably due to effort), and usually for a different team.    Ted Washington was this way.  Sam Adams.  Grady Jackson.  (Shaun Rogers is an exception, as he's been dominant with the Lions, but Rogers was upset that he slipped to a second rounder and played with a chip on his soldier.  We're talking about giving this body type instant millions as the #8 overall pick).  I think I would love Haloti Ngata if we signed him as a free agent four or five years from now.

    - The Bills are employing Cover 2, which means there will be a defensive line rotation, which means he'll play a little over half the defensive snaps, especially with his endurance issues.  This limits his value to any Cover 2 team that uses a defensive line rotation.

IMO, drafting Haloti Ngata at #8 overall is a huge risk, a huge reach, and not getting value for that pick.

    Good Post!

  2. I despise TO, but he is probably one of the finest conditioned athletes in world.  Plus if I was the Cowboys, I would almost just have him show up for games.  The less of TO, the less distraction there will be and potential for anything to blow up.

    662670

That's probably a bit too clever for the Cowboys to think of....

Do you think they monitor 2BD for hidden advice?

  3. Hawk is a weak side linebacker, you would have to move Spikes to the strong side. The top Strong side linebacker is Demaco Ryan, who wouldnt be a bad idea if you trade down. Ryan is a strong stand up leader who demands the most of his teamates. He made everyone pick up the trash off the floor from around their stalls so the cleaning crew did not have to pick up after the players. I think if you traded down picked up some extra picks Ryan might be the best fit.

    662678

I heard Hawk could play any LB position...can't remember if the source was reliable or not but....I don't think if he fell to us we could afford to let him go.

  4.

The Kids going to be something special , his desire to succeed will conquer all obstacles . Nobody has any Idea what kind of gem we have in Losman.

dog has a nose and he knows.

One day , Losman , Mcgahee , and Evans are going to play in the big one.

I see it all so clearly!

    662677

Hey, until it doesn't happen, nobody can tell you otherwise.

    GO BILLS!!

  5. I disagree.  You win with coaching, conditioning, hard work and heart. And this team has lacked all 4 the last few seasons

    662665

You wouldn't have been saying that at the end of '04.

Also unfair on the Special teams unit (all 4 areas)

On top of all 4 areas, I think having a team of solid players/athletes with a handful of playmakers is also essential. When was the last time the Superbowl was won without playmakers?

  6. I stated right on this board about a week ago that I thought McCargo was going to be one of those players that the internet mocks underrated.  I think most of the time, we're not dealing with players shooting up the draft boards of real NFL teams.  I think most of the time, the NFL teams already have these "risers" highly rated.  It's the internet draft boards that have no clue what they're talking about.

    I hear ya.

How often do you scan through the previous pages?

I'm sure some people are not on every day & to them this is new & they are happy to read & contribute.

Either way(bringing an old thread up or starting a new one) you get to see it at the top...no difference.

I just don't get your problem with this.

You do realize that if you stopped making the point that this thread should not have been made in the first place, it would eventually be on the next page & out of sight.

  8. GuessWhozBack21 left that ellipsis there b/c he doesn't want his gf/wife/friends to read the rest of his sentence, which continues, "my binky."

(By the by, what dev/null doesn't know is that comeupance tastes like strawberry shortcake. So I've heard.)

UConn is a gnat gnawed, uninspiringly, unintelligent, nose hair pullingly excruciatingly boring bottom burp of an excuse for a man who if his brains were to explode, wouldn't even ruffle his hair.

  9. The answer to that is so ridiculously obvious it won't surprise me when the gurus on this BB respond incorrectly.

    GO BILLS!!!

If only this guy would enlighten us more often.

145 post in nearly 4 years...just think of the contribution to the collective intellegence...

  10. Yep, havent had one of these topics in about a week, it was high time for another one.

I cant believe you took the time to register just to post this crap.

    chetsap = RJ

    661921

Geez, give the guy a break...Obviously with the responses some people still want to discuss this(& not go through the older threads)

If you don't want to read it, IGNORE it.

What does it hurt you if this thread is there? :D

  11. Best case scenario: most all the QB prospects get drafted ahead of the Bills and someone desperately wants to trade up to get the last top QB prospect - Bills trade down a few spots and get the extra premium pick

Best case scenario # 2:  The Bills get a choice to take one of the following - AJ Hawk, D'Brick or Huff.

Worst case scenario: The Bills have V. Young and Cutler on the board and the Bills don't get any trade offers and still take Ngata at #8.

My best scenario would be: Bills trade down - exchange number #1's which they use to take DT Bunkley and pick up a #2 as well.

    661722

    Um...that's 3 Best scenarios

Re #2: I think there is a high likelyhood of this. Assuming D'Brick & AJ are gone, Huff most likely will be there at #8.

  12. I still say that Vernon Davis could still be available at 8....

You just dont normally draft TE's that high....

    661021

    I agree.

You normally don't draft TE's that high but how many before have had the same attributes as VD?

If he is a freak of nature, it's only natural he will go higher than TE's normally go.

  13. I'm listing the 6 players in each round I'd most love on my team. They would fit well in our scheme, are character guys, and would be great picks at that point in the draft.

    Round 1

    ---TE Vernon Davis,

    ---OT D'Brick, Justice,

    ---OC Mangold,

    ---DT Bunkley,

    ---S Huff

    662145

Um...I don't want to be too negative but...(gee that sort of statement usually is followed by something really, really negative  )

    I don't get your criteria...

Davis, D'brick, Huff...even Justice & Bunkley are widely considered to be Top 10 but Mangold????

Justice has maturity & character issues

    ....from Scout Inc...

Weaknesses: Justice can still afford to add some bulk to his frame. He must also continue to improve his overall technique, including his first step and hand-usage as a blocker. He has some maturity issues. Comes with major character and mild durability baggage. Had surgery on his right shoulder in 2003 off-season and ankle sprain during the 2003 season. Was sentenced to probation after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor count of solicitation of prostitution in July of 2003. Also charged with three misdemeanor counts of exhibiting a replica firearm in March of 2004.

I don't personally know enough about the later draft candidates but....

  14. This years draft is one of the deepest in many, many years. Literally twice as good as last season. Lots of depth at positions of need for the Bills. We constantly cry about getting help for the trenches on Offense and Defense. Here's our chance.

I'd rather have an extra day one pick this season, which could bring our total to 5 players within the first 72 picks.

That's too good an opportunity to pass on.

No more TD and his controlling injury/midget niche pick fetish.

    Let's nail this draft.

    662466

    Ditto!

  15. Are you serious.  We need DT!

    662381

We do need DT but IMO neither is worth picking at the #8 spot.

Since there is no trade down option I vote VD (I'd even prefer Huff over Lazy/potential & Surprise/I'm good--at #8).

There are other qualitiy DTs in this draft & I really don't want us to waste this pick.

    Linky straight there: http://sports.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation/story?id=2406023

  16. I just don't understand how these players shoot up the draft boards when scouts have had several years to assess them & watch them play.

    Latest Scout Inc. assessment....

    John McCargo

    DT | (6'1", 302, 5.19) | NORTH CAROLINA ST

    Scouts Grade: 75

Strengths: He's a one-gap penetrating type of defensive tackle prospect. He will fit best as a three-technique in the NFL. He shows very good initial burst out of his stance. Fires out low and with good initial power. He shows the consistent ability to penetrate and does a decent job of finding the ball once he gets through the line of scrimmage. He has good speed and overall mobility for his position. Can change directions and will pursue from behind. He is disruptive versus the run and pass. Has upside as a pass rusher if he can improve his ability to use his hands and get off of blocks. He is an intelligent and hard-working player. Was a good student in college and shows a lot of maturity for his age.

Weaknesses: He is undersized. He lacks ideal height and possesses marginal bulk. He plays with a narrow base and does not show the ability to anchor versus the run. He will get pushed around by bigger linemen that lock onto his body and he struggles to hold his ground when teams run at him. He has good penetrating skills versus the run but needs to improve his array of pass rush moves in order to contribute in that facet in the NFL. He gets a lot of pressure on quarterbacks because of his ability to penetrate quickly, but he does not show ideal closing burst to finish. Durability is also a concern after missing final five regular-season games due to stress fracture to left foot suffered vs. Wake Forest. The injury required surgery and several weeks of rehabilitation.

Overall: McCargo redshirted in 2002 before taking over as a fulltime starter in 2003, when he started all 13 games at DT and finished with 52 total tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 16 QB pressures and three sacks. He was an Academic All-ACC in 2004, when he started 10 of the 11 games he played and finished with 47 tackles, five TFL and 12 QB pressures. McCargo started all six games that he played in as a junior in 2005 but missed five others due to a stress fracture injury to his left foot that required surgery. Despite missing nearly half of the season, he still finished with 35 tackles, 10 TFL, seven QB pressures and one sack in 2005. McCargo was a surprise addition to the early-entry crop in this year's draft. He was completely overshadowed playing on an N.C. State defensive line that included the likes of Mario Williams and Manny Lawson. While McCargo is nowhere near the same caliber player, he was an impact starter in his own right when healthy. McCargo lacks ideal size and will never be able to consistently hold his ground versus the run. However, he has some upside for teams employing a one-gap, up-the-field type of defensive line scheme. McCargo returned to play in the season-finale as a junior, which helped to ease concerns regarding his foot injury. In our opinion, McCargo warrants consideration late on Day 1 of the 2006 draft.

  17. Two phenomenon around here that I cannot figure out for the life of me:

    1) WHY most folks think Losman can do no right, and

    2) WHY most folks think Marv can do no wrong.

    661658

    1) I agree

    2) Huh? From what I see, most think Marv is either doing a terrible job or are wisely giving him the benefit of the doubt & will wait to see what happens. I don't think I've read a Marv can do no wrong post.

....personally, I'm waiting to see how we go before I make up my mind....

    Same with JP.

  18. I think you are going to see a very predictable top 10 draft...

    1. Reggie Bush- Texans

    2. Mario Williams- Saints

    3. Matt Leinart- Titans

    4. D'Brickashaw Ferguson- Jets

    5. A.J. Hawk- Packers

    6. Vernon Davis- 49ers

    7. Vince Young- Raiders

    8. Haloti Ngata- Bills

    9. Michael Huff- Lions

    10. Jay Cutler- Cardinals

Obviously 1 team can throw a monkey wrench in things but. the top 10 seems more predictable then recent years.

    661647

Fairly predictable...unless something unpredictable happens

Predictable perhaps because there is a larger number of very highly rated players than usual

Ngata IMO is not one of them though.
