  1. A PRO BOWL player in the first round

I am talking about a true starter in the Pro Bowl, Not someone selected to the Pro Bowl as a alternative.....

I am sure there is a answer but what I am really getting at is how poorly the Bills draft year in and year out.......

Just look at how many players they pass up over and over again who make the Pro Bowl......

What does this tell you ............ Will the situation ever improve? I dunno...

    Bruce ... no wait ... Reuben Brown {snicker}

  2. The Bills have made the playoffs 10 out of the last 21 seasons. That's not on par with the Lions or several other losing franchises for that matter.

Most of which were during the glory years of Kelly, Marv et al ... except for those glory years and the AFL years, this has been a consistently mediocre franchise with occasional forays into above average and bad. In this day and age of parity, you can get better in one season ... we haven't gotten better in 9 years ...

  3. The point is not that we have the same won-lost record as the Lions, but that we're entering that same level of chronic ineptitude as the Lions. Let's face facts ... this francshise was dominant in the AFL. Once we got to the NFL, we have consistently been bad to mediocre. Yes, we had the run from the late 80s to late 90s, but that was the exception. We lucked into 2 great GMs (Polian and Butler) and found a diamond in the rough in a cheap hire (Levy). These guys assembled the core of a great team.

Before the glory years and since, we have been mediocre. Now we have an owner who refuses to change, a GM who is not a football guy, a revolving door of cheap hires and retreads at head coach. Jauron isn't good enough, but we're going to be sold this line of crap about "continuity". In this day and age of leaguewide parity, teams can rebound in a single season ... case in point Atlanta, Arizona, Miami ... while we're being sold "hope" ... hope that Trent grows and gets more consistent ... hope that the players great love for Jauron translates into wins ... hope that Fine and Shouman become vialble downfield receiving threats ... hope that Hardy becomes a starting NFL WR ... year in and year in, we are sold hope without any substantial changes to actually back it up. Will the Bills be agressive this year in free agency and bring in players to get this team better ... we can only hope, right?!?

  4. Sorry but you're wrong, even a mediocre team would have had a 9-7 record with the easy as pie schedule the Bills had in 2008. In 2009, this pathetically led team will have no more than 5 wins...

Home: Miami, New England, New York Jets, Houston, Indianapolis, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Cleveland

Away: Miami, New England, New York Jets, Atlanta, Carolina, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Tennessee

I see their only wins coming from beating the Jets once, Houston, Cleveland, Jacksonville and Kansas City. Even giving them that many wins seems a bit generous. Don't kid yourself, Dick Jauron is THAT bad of a football coach.

Well said ... despite an identical w-l record from the year before, I think that we took a step backwards. In 07, we were younger, less talented and decimated by injuries. Given the schedule and fewer injuries in 08, 7-9 represents a step backwards, and we're committed to staying the course ... of mediocrity.

  5. I love it how opinions become "official." It's only official in your mind.

I stand corrected ... we're only in the Lions territory [Link] ... Keeping drinking the Grape Kool-Aid boys!

  6. Didnt see this posted yet, and I didnt look for a link, but it was just a breaking news entry onto sports center. They said that 95% of ownership now belongs to some guy named Ross.

Does this mean Parcells can now opt out of his contract? I heard before that it was a possibility if the current owner sold majority ownership of the team. Not like the Bills would sign him, but having him out of the Dolphins front office is a plus.

Any chance that they can relocate to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean?

  7. agreed...downtown NF wouldnt work because of traffic even if the people there were competent and even if the town wasnt a scummy dump

Yes, traffic would be fugly ... better yet would be Williams Road in Wheatfield where the OZ park was dreamed up to be ... better access to surface roads. Canadian traffic could cross at Rainbow or Queenston. There would still need to be some new roadwork, but not nearly as much as downtown Nia Falls.

Again moot point ... it's not going to happen.

  8. I know this is completely off topic, but thanks for the book reference. When my wife and I come home to WNY to visit my mom, we often go to Niagara on the Lake and some of the vineyards around there (there is a cool English pub that we always eat at- great food, can't remember the name). It is like night and day compared to the U.S. side and we always wonder- why? I think the area, like a lot of WNY, has a ton of potential that just hasn't been tapped- the area just seems to have taken a severe pounding over the heavy industrial "boom" years.

English Pub ... The Buttery? They do a Henry the 8th themed dinner show that is a blast. Next time you're there ... look for Piccards Nut Shop ... it's a little outside of the village, but it's awesome!

The U.S. side was always strong in industry thanks to the cheap hydro power ... especially in aluminum and chemical manufacturing which are very energy intensive. Tourism was always a few extra bucks in the summer, but the city never had to rely on it. Also, there was a very strong mafia presence, but everyone had good jobs, so evertone was happy. After the Schoellkopf power station (which provided the cheap power) collapsed, the new Robert Moses station was built and the local power rates went up and negated the cheap power advantage. In the 70s, there were widespread shifts in manufacturing from northen towns to the south and Niagara Falls was hit hard. Now, instead of developing our tourism, everyone is fighting to hold on to whatever piece of the pie that they can and squash any attempts to redevelop. Business climate is now so tainted and difficult that few even try any more.

It's a shame, the city gets 10 to 12 million tourists a year on name recognition alone. Making money here should be sooo easy ... but it's not. Sad ... sad.

  9. You have to look at it historically. The American side was industrial... That is what we did with it. The only thing that saved it from being a total cesspool and from total unscrupulous industrial/commercial exploitation was designating the State Park... I think it was one of the first in the country?? Just imagine what an ecological disaster (you think it is bad now) NF, New York would be if things were allowed to run rampant and checked especially early on at the start of the 1900's.

As New York being the "industrial side", what do you do with those brownfields now? The path was chosen so many years ago. Thank God it was tempered to a certain extent (the park)... In a sick way, be lucky for what we have...:w00t: Again, imagine what that place would have looked... At least the land is semi-nonpolluted...

Exactly ... Read Pierre Burton's Book "Niagara" ... though it's written more about the canadian side, it shows how we developed more on the industrial side and canada focused more on tourism.

Now that the industry dried up, we need to take stock of what is left and redevelop for tourism. Unfortunately, the (unelected) powers that be that run the city and the out-of-state land developers sitting on prime property waiting to make a killing if non-indian gambling ever happens have killed any chance to capitalize on anything. For crying out loud, the poor guy who used to own the ice cream shop by the Rainbow Bridge had to fought the city for years to build a hot dog stand.

A stadium in Niagara Falls, while it would be GREAT, will NEVER happen.
