Here is a draft that will fill many holes if we trade our first two picks and get Baker Mayfield. Also doesn't account for free agents that we will sign. (Using Drafttek)

    1. QB Baker Mayfield

    2. DT Harrison Phillips

    2. LB Leighton Vander Esch

    3. OC Bradley Bozeman

    4. WR Dante Pettis

    5. OT Ike Boettger

    5. DT Olive Sagapolu

The problem is you're probably not getting Mayfield with out trading up and depending how far you need to move it may cost both 1's or a 1 and both 2's maybe the 3.

If all the desired FA QB’s sign elsewhere and if the top 4 QB’s are gone before we can trade up...

And without bitching about it or saying “trade up period”......

What would you like to see done with our picks?

I would want the Bills to hopefully try to trade back more. I wouldn’t care if they traded out of the first round altogether.

Ideally, I’d trade a 1st this year for a 1st next year, to have the ammo for a possible trade up next year. I’d like to take our 5 picks in the first 3 rounds and make it 7 or 8.

Basically, I want to build all the pieces we can and set ourselves up for a QB next year. I believe that quality of starter late first round is similar to second round picks.  We can really build a foundation and put ourselves in position for a QB next year.

If we can fill the other holes with our draft this year, selling the farm to trade up for a QB the following year won’t hurt as much.

My biggest fear to trading up this year is that we will have too many holes to fill and not the picks to fill them with.

Trading down can still bring them a QB, and with the extra pick take another in the 3rd round while still filling holes.  After the run, for the top 3 or 4, things will slow down.  There is no guarantee that the top 3 or 4 will be markedly better than the others.  In fact they could be worse.

Thanks, and yeah, my post shouldn't be confused as if its some support for TT to remain the starter...simply put, he's by far the best "bridge" option.  Although if we can trade him and get value for him, even better as we can use all the assets we can get.  And like I said, how cares who the bridge guy is...we can roll Peterman out there even if we lose every game we start...its not about that bridge guy...its about the future of the QB we drafted.  In fact, not even a bad thing if we lose a lot early before the rookie starts, we wont win the SB with a rookie QB next year and all the other holes we are filling.  So losing only helps our draft position in 2019 as we really start to make a push like Rams and Eagles did in year 2 of their rookie QB's journey.

I agree with you on TT.  Only time will determine what the future holds.  I don't think the GM's job is to cuddle.  It's a cut throat business and sentiment, while comforting, can lead you down the wrong path.

Why do people think guys like Bradford, AJ, Keenum, etc are realistic targets as bridge QB's to a high rookie draft pick this year?  Why on earth would they come to Buffalo to do that?

    1. We have a first time OC who has a terrible NFL record as an OC and known for power run game on a team that has been a run first team here.  And our OL isnt exactly stellar at keeping QB's upright with some holes to fill on it still.
    2. They dont know if they will start the whole season, or even at all if the rookie comes out hot in preseason.
    3. The bridge QB will be on a short leash and cant afford bad games because they can lose their job at any moment.  And Buffalo is a run first team who plays outdoors in bad weather, not exactly an ideal location to try and hold a job on a short leash.  Plus we have an injury prone #1 WR and a young WR in Zay at #2 who struggled bad in his rookie year.
    4. They will have multiple teams interested in their services, so they WONT sign in Buffalo for 1 year.  Means Buffalo will need to give them more expensive deal than Tyrod and it will be a multi year deal.
      1. That leaves the Bills with an expensive backup after this year chewing up cap space...whereas Tyrod comes off the books after this year and clears the way for a cheap backup in Peterman (if he can earn the job) or signing a low budget FA QB to be a backup.
    5. Who cares who the bridge QB is?  Its a temp job and they may not even start a single game.  It does NOT matter who it is.  What does matter is cap space, and using cap space stupidly is not going to do the Bills any favors in building a winner.  And overpaying to have a bridge whose name isnt Tyrod is a bad use of cap space, especially on a multi year deal.

Bottom line, Tyrod is a substantially SMARTER move to be a bridge behind a top QB prospect.  He is cheap and only has 1 year left on his deal.  Plus he knows the team and players, is the hardest working guy on the roster, respected by his teammates as a leader, has a winning record despite 2 HC's and now 4 OC's in Buffalo, dealt with poor arsenal of revolving door of WR's (due to injuries, trades, and FA), and just made the playoffs.

If we can trade Tyrod, even better as we get something for him now and Peterman can be the bridge or we sign a CHEAP FA QB, not Bradford level, on a 1 year deal to keep seat warm like a McCown or even someone like Kap...guys who wont have as many other options or leverage in negotiating the deal.  At the end of the day, does not matter who the guy out there is...its short lived and they may even lose their job before the season begins if the rookie starts hot.

But a pricey "bridge" like Bradford, Keenum, etc just isnt happening unless Bills make a bad decision by over paying on a multi year deal to try and get them to choose Bills over better situations.  Now if they want to sign Bradford as the starter and forego drafting a rookie, then sure, they can sign him.  But I don't think anyone thinks thats a good idea, and I doubt Beane does either.

    MONEY!

I don't mind Tyrod for one more year but I don't think Peterman is ready yet.

I think Miller goes back to starting RG. He'll be close to his old form before the Dennison scheme weeded him out. Groy can start at C if need be, but ideally, he remains the C/G swing man. If somehow we Do manage a starting C in the draft or FA, and get Miller back in for Ducasse, or line would look alot better. And with Cordy's age/health, he might be best served as our RT. Starters would look really good like Dawkins/Incognito/Price,Groy, FA/ Miller/Glenn

Or maybe they find their swing man in the draft or through FA.  I thought Groy was pretty solid.  He didn't have the savvy of Wood but was much more physical.

I wouldn't be mad at this at all   I'm still wondering what happened to Miller though, I thought he had a bright future. I also think Glenn is as good as gone , anytime you can play a LT on a rookie contract that's a huge advantage for your Franchise.

Miller ended up in the dog house when he struggled with the wonderful Zone blocking scheme.  Evidently Dennison never heard the old saying "if it ain't broke don't fixit".  Also Vlad was evidently a love child of Castillo.  Hopefully things change this year.  I also don't expect Glenn to last.  I think he will be part of a draft deal.

The more I analyze this Buffalo Bills offseason, the more I think our 2018 starting QB could come down to either Alex Smith or Sam Bradford.

When it comes to the Draft, the Bills are in a tough spot at picks 21/22. Teams are going to want a king's ransom in order to move up to the Top 10 (much less Top 5).

I also see this QB class as being way more flawed than people choose to believe. Each prospect has his own warts. There might be a star in this class, but no one knows who it is. It might be the 1st rated QB in the class, or it might be the 5th rated. It's a total crap shoot.

So what is the Bills' best option for 2018 (and beyond)? It might be one of the veteran QB's that will be available.

Kirk Cousins: As much as I would love it to happen, I don't see Kirk Cousins being realistic for us considering the lack of cap space we have and the competition for his services.

Teddy Bridgewater: This guy is a total question mark due to his knee. I'm guessing that he'll stay with the Vikings on a prove-you-can-still-play one-year contract extension.

Case Keenum: I think the Vikings give him a solid contract extension.

    The rest are trash.

That leaves Sam Bradford (Free Agent) and Alex Smith (under contract with the Chiefs)

    Sam Bradford Upside:

    • Despite having nearly a decade of experience as a starting NFL QB in this league, Bradford will still only be 30 years old when the 2018 season begins
    • Won't have to give up any draft picks for him
    • Considering his injury history, he may be good value if we can get him at a price lower than expected
    • Career at an upward trajectory - had a career year in 2016 and played at a very high level in his two starts in 2017
    • Played under Josh McDaniels in 2011, so may be already acclimated to many of Brain Daboll's concepts

    Sam Bradford Downside

    • Has been plagued by injuries for much of his career. Can he get and stay healthy?
    • Risky acquisition. Can we afford him considering all the competition for the services of quarterback out there?

    Alex Smith Upside:

    • Coming off the best season of his career
    • Competitive guy, underdog 'me-against-the-world' mentality could fit in well in Buffalo

    Alex Smith Downside:

    • Must give up draft picks to get him
    • Only one year left on his deal - is he worth it?
    • Can he perform at such a high level without Andy Reid?
    • Some describe him as Tyrod Taylor without the wheels - doesn't read the field quickly and hesitates to throw to WR who aren't wide open
    • Turns 35 years old this May - how much does he have left?

    Thoughts?

I chose Bradford just because there are no picks involved.   He is talented when healthy and if he goes down it gives Peterman another opportunity.

Let him play his contract out. Go to Combine gauge market and sign to an extension before UFA.

Just like they did with InCognito.

Fact is at the time of the extension he was coming off IR and only was able to start in 16 games 3 of 8 years in the league.

Trolls because I question some idiotic decisions?

He actually started all 16 games in 4 of the last 5 years.  So unusual of you to disregard facts when making your baseless accusations.

I'd take a shot on Allen, Mayfield, or Jackson if they fall to 21.  Too many warts for them to go higher than that but that won't stop someone from reaching.  I'd trade up for for Darnold.  Not sure I trust Rosen enough to trade up for him.

No offence but I've seen too many 6'5" QB's who can throw 100 yards from their knees crash and burn in the NFL.   Mayfield would be interesting but pass on Allen and Jackson.

Why would we be trading down?

Your name is "simpleman" yet your post is anything but that.

    Seriously though, trade down?

If there is a QB you have targeted at that spot trading down makes a lot of sense because no one picking after pick 22 is taking a QB, so that player should still be there baring a trade up by someone.  Plus you have acquired an additional pick.

Don't move up!  All the "top QB's" don't turn out to be top QB's!.  Remember EJ, RJ etc.??  Maybe it's the "J" initial curse?

If this team was a QB away from being a SB contender then I would say trade up, but they are not nearly that close, so draft a QB that falls to them and use the other picks to hopefully fill the voids

I keep reading about how bad our O-line is, but how much of that is due to personnel? Going into next season, assuming we don't move anyone, we should have Glenn, Incognito, Wood, Ducasse, Dawkins from left to right.

That really doesn't look too bad. I know Duccasse isn't great, but he was serviceable down the stretch. Wood is decent, Incognito's a legit pro-bowler, and Glenn (assuming he's healthy) and Dawkins make for nice bookend tackles.

Do we really need significant upgrades or do we just need better coaching and scheming?

I believe Glenn's day in Buffalo are over.  He will be traded as we now have our LT in Dawkins.  Ducasse still sucks at anything but run blocking.  Also would like to see a Center drafted to replace Wood.

How was this worse what Gronk did to Tre' White? As a matter of fact, I see what Gronk willfully and intentionally did as borderline criminal. And yet he only gets one game. It is the inconsistency that is so hard to understand.

If this occurred on the street he would be arrested for battery and could be facing jail time.
