1. Broncos | Rumor alert: Trading up in the NFL Draft

    Sun, 9 Apr 2006 08:14:14 -0700

Bill Williamson, of the Denver Post, reports one rumor making the rounds is the Denver Broncos packaging their No. 15 and No. 22 picks in the first round of the NFL Draft to move up to No. 5 (Green Bay) or No. 6 (San Francisco) to take Maryland TE Vernon Davis, whose football ability, size and speed make him an off-the-charts NFL prospect. Interest from Denver makes sense, because the Broncos need a tight end and a playmaker, but there are reasons Denver might not want to trade up that high. The Broncos might not want to pay a player as much as a top-five pick would earn. Denver likely would rather spread its money between two first-round picks.

if Davis is still there at 8 I would make that trade in a heartbeat

  2. He just wanted out, now he has something to prove. I would sign him to a one or two year contract. He has something to prove. Bad things man !

    656807

yeah he is def in the market for a one or two year deal...especially after declining a player option of 4 mil guaranteed to become a free agent

do people think before they post stuff like this or do they just not know what they are talking about

  3. Some of the big names that we desire will be gone by the time we pick

The Bills pick 8th not 28th...only 7 guys will be drafted before the Bills pick so there will still be plenty of big name players on the board

I just dont see this team Drafting Huff, I like him and would like to see the Bills draft him but I just dont think they put a lot of stock in their Safety's playing in their cover 2

I still have yet to hear a good reason why this team should even consider AJ Hawk

  4. I agree, if anything we should get out of the first round altogether.  This draft is loaded with value and talent in the later rounds.

    649797

are you kidding me???? get out of the first round altogether, from the #8 spot to out of the first round

that might be the dumbest statement Ive read about this draft yet and there are a lot of dumb statements being made

you do not drop out of the first round from the top ten

  5. I think D Brick is overrated.  I watched him get beat a few times in the Senior Bowl.  What's he gonna do when the nasty professionals are running stunts on him?

I'd rather take some cat with a little less natural talent and a whole lotta 'tude in the 2nd or 3rd.

    649773

you cant put a ton of stock in what a guy does in the Senior Bowl. Every coach and scout says what a player does in practice all week counts more then what he does in the game

  6. Evans and Parrish are definite playmakers.  Parrish in the open field is undeniably dangerous, and Evan's speed is all that needs pointed out here.  The problem, of course, is not having a quarterback that can get us to the point to make these kinds of plays.  Willis McGahee is of course a playmaker, although that is where the O-line troubles me.  The kid's got speed and he's got leverage... and as long as Shelton is healthy, he's a nice trump card in the mix.

    649602

Parrish is FAR from a definite playmaker, you have to make plays to be a playmaker and I dont remember him making any plays last year. He barely played and when he did he didnt do much, not even as a punt returner...and you think he is a definite playmaker

he was a horrible pick by a horrible GM

This teams biggest need is O-lineman, if you cant see that you're not watching the same team I am. You cant do much with playmakers on offense when you cant run or protect the QB

  7. You think having a guard and center in his chest has anything to do with that. Oh and by the way, teams don't run at Sam Adams.

His job was, is and will be to take up blockers and free the middle linebacker up to make plays. It's why Fletcher has had good seasons. Watch as teams single up Tripplett and fire guards out at the linebackers to create holes and cut back lanes. Suddenly Fletcher is going to look real old and real slow when he can't fight through the lineman to get to the backs.

    649453

Fletcher was making tackles before he played behind Adams and will continue to do so. Sam was not worth what he was getting paid

Good DT's still make tackles, Sam played awful last year...period

  8. he is the one gap type of defensive tackle that fits this defensive scheme the best?

many sources say the bills do not like Haloti Nagata because he is a two type hold the line guy while this defense needs one gap penetrators.

the mention Sam Adams as the prototype one gap penetrator and we just let him go :D

so either this is typical pre-draft babble  or the bills just shot themsielves in the foot again.

Adams was a team problem because the Bills would not let him play one gap under meathead.

now they are installing a defense that fits him and they cut him so they can try to find another one.

i did not think he was that big of a cap hit.

    649364

he averaged like a tackle a game last year

  9. To many, Marv Levy probably seems like a long shot from a desperate owner, who is willing to try almost anything to get his team past the hump and into the playoffs.  For those of us who truly believe, levy is God. Theres something growing in Buffalo, you can feel it in the air. A sense of security, of knowing someone real smart is in charge. Someone who will corral the roaming Buffalo, and steer them to greener pastures. I'm a believer, how about you?

    637839

what has he done as GM to make you believe?

or are you just a blind believer like all the TD blind believers that have come and gone?

Marv has proven an ability to sign backups, thats it...he has done little as GM

  10. A lot of us were pulling for the Bills to take a QB late and some of us had even pulled for Schaub. (I changed my Avatar to Schaub).

Had we not traded with Dalls for JP we could have had :

Jake Grove or Bob Sanders in the 2nd round of the 2004 Draft.

Matt Schaub in the 3rd Round (Instead of Tim Ander-suck)

In 2005 Could have taken Chris Spencer to play Center (If we didn't have draft Grove) or have been able to jump ahead and grab Alex Barron to play tackle or we could have taken Luis Castillo to play DT.

I know that hindsight is 20/20 but this team would be in a lot better shape. This trade and pick could have set us back a few years. Thanks Tom.

    633482

you can "only if we never" on the majority of Td's moves, the guy was a complete joke

  11. in case you are still confused, here are the next two players the Bills have brought in....look familiar?

Visiting today is Washington DB Matt Bowen and Detroit DE Jared DeVries. Bowen plays strong safety and is a possible replacement for Lawyer Milloy. He has six years experience with St. Louis, Green Bay, and the last three years with the Redskins. He has four career interceptions, including three in 2003 which was his best season. That year he also had a career high 83 tackles. He had 14 tackles in 13 games last year for Washington. He played mostly as a reserve last year and is considered a good special teams player. DeVries is a seven year veteran, all with the Lions. He has eight career sacks, including three last year to go along with 22 tackles. He is also a solid special teams performer.

  12. Geez, I didn't think I was a dropout.  Maybe I am.

Honestly, I don't know who the Bills "tried" to bring in. Do you? Typically, teams don't announce when they've invited a player if the guy declines the invitation.  It was widely speculated that the Bills might have problems recruiting free agents - maybe they are.

This team is one year removed from having the best defense in the NFL, special teams continue to be the best, and we have a new and vastly improved (I think) front office and coaching staff.  We were 5-11, losing a couple of heart-breakers thanks to some bone-headed coaching decisions that I don't think will be repeated.  We beat the Bengals, and almost upset the Patriots.  I definitely believe we'll be very competitive this season.

No QB? JP's played eight games, ferchrissakes!  How good was Favre in his first year?  Or Bradshaw?  Or Eli Manning?  Give Losman a chance, will ya?  I think he'll be fine.

Likewise with Jauron - I think he'll be great.  Levy had a losing record when he came here - now he's in the Hall of Fame.  Belichick sucked in Cleveland - my God, they used to hold up signs that read "Beavis and Belichick" - how's he done lately?

Davis as #2?  No...I think he'll be #3 behind Moulds and Evans, and I think he's an upgrade from Reed.

You speak as though only the last 4 or 5 days consititutes the whole "big picture". You're right - both lines, strong safety, and other issues remain - that's why I'm waiting for the "big picture" to be completed.  Sources deep within OBD have indicated that we will acquire some new players on April 29-30.  Yeah, blockbuster trades don't happen every day.  We don't need them to - one (Cornelius Bennett comes to mind) will be fine - or maybe we won't need one at all.

Yeah, I think the Bills will be pretty good this season, and will surprise a lot of people.

    632049

the generic response that all the blind loyalists give when the fans are not happy, we dont know what their plans are and who they try and bring in....maybe you should read a little more because KFFL always seems to know what players are visiting which teams and who has declined visits. Look at what the Titans and the Browns are doing, trying to improve by bringing in high quality players

as of now the team doesnt have a proven QB....YES OR NO?

JP could be good but as of now this team doesnt have a QB

you think Jauron will be great, based on what?

Cornelius Bennett trade happened in what '87 almost 20 years ago and you bring it up...trades like that dont happen often

the last 4 or 5 days gives us an idea of what their plans actually are and what type of players they are going after...guess you cant see that

you think the Bills will be pretty good this season, and will surprise a lot of people...again what is this based on? pure optimism?

  13. 1.) Robert Mathis DE- He is a GREAT pass rusher and and all around extraordinary DE.  He is a restricted FA, but I'd give up a 5th for him and overpay! I would rather have Robert Mathis than Mario Williams on the 2006-2007 Buffalo Bills!

    http://cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/players/playerpage/396031

2.) Mike Flanagan C- Veteran center.  When healthy, he is a very solid player.

3.) Stephen Neal G- Same as Flanagan.

4.) Kenyatta Walker T- He is a young tackle with a lot of experience (54 games).

5.) Tank Williams S- He is very young (25) and a solid tackler.

    http://cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/players/playerpage/302236

    6. Tutan Reyes G

    7. Tom Ashworth OT

    8. Idrees Bashir S

    9. Carlos Hall DE

    10. Jeff Mitchell C

NOTE*- I got all of these names from Scout.com. So if these guys are not FAs still, blame Scout.com.

    631746

have you ever even seen Kenyatta Walker play, he is terrible

  14. You people need to take a deep breath and settle down. There is a lot of time to pick up players, obtain players via the draft and trade people. Just because we missed out on Ryan Pickett (he is really that good?) doesn't mean we are going to have a bad year.

    631052

I am always amazed when people cant see whats happening. Royal, Tripplett and Davis dont do a thing for me. Marv is signing second tier players when this team is in desperate need of top tier players.

You're right, there is still a lot of time to continue to get backup players like the players they've already signed and continue to bring in. This team needs talent more then they need depth. Did they even try to bring in Bentley, Howard or anyone of that caliber?

Did you actually say trade people? How often do you see quality players traded? Portis for Bailey doesnt happen often.

What makes you think this team will have a good year?

    No QB

A way too conservative head coach that has one winning season under his belt

    Terrible offensive line

    Weak pass rush

Who is going to play SS ( and if you say Wire you should just stop watching football )

Do you have confidence in Andre Davis to be the #2 WR once Moulds is cut

Fans are looking at the big picture, maybe you should too

  15. Bentley, shaffer and Jurevicious to help the O.

Big Ted and Willie McGhinest on the D.

If we could have only gotten that type of production from our front office.  They are going to be the team we should be.

I'm cheering for the browns secretely this year.

    T_R

    631349

I agree that they have signed some good players but just because they signed them doesnt mean they are going to be better next year....Who is their QB? and how good is Frye?

the Raiders were supposed to be much better last year and the Redskins are supposed to be so much better every year...just doesnt always work that way. The Mets always seem to sign a bunch of players and they are rarely any better then a .500 ballclub

  16. a backup TE, 3rd WR and a so so DT are not going to get this team in the playoffs. D.Howard would have been perfect for this team. L.Bentley and LJ Shelton would have done wonders for the line.

Im not suggesting all these players should have been signed but it would have been nice if they at least attempted to get some higher quality guys and not second or maybe even third tear guys.

Looks like more of the same to me. Wilson doesnt want to hand out the big bucks and Marv thinks he can do more with less. What the hell does Royal give the team that Campbell couldnt with the exception of a higher cap number.

This team needs to get 2 and maybe 3 starting O-lineman this offseason, the only givens are Villarial and Peters. Top 3 WRs will most likely be Evans, Davis and Parrish...not a remake of the greatest show on turf are they?

  17. Eagles | Once again confirm Thomas is on the trading block

    Mon, 13 Mar 2006 18:28:08 -0800

Bob Brookover, of the Philadelphia Inquirer, reports a league source confirmed Monday, March 13, that the Philadelphia Eagles are listening to offers for DT Hollis Thomas, but it's not a certainty that the team will trade him. The Eagles are trying to find out if any team looking for a run-stopping defensive tackle will make a worthwhile offer. Thomas is heading into the final year of his contract.

A "rental" for a 7th round pick, perhaps?

    628046

Hollis Thomas isnt that good anymore, he's injury prone and he's overweight, much heavier then he used to be and it showed last year.
