  1. Unless you are an Arbitron/Nielsen household your listenership will not effect ratings.

If the people that are complaining bombard the advertisers of this show with calls/letters/emails stating strong displeasure of their support of these two, things might change.

Venting here at TBD will get nothing done.

  2. Gailey is totally confused.

Sure he is. Meanwhile fan forum posters have all the answers. Gailey knows more than you ever hope to know. Look at our points-per-game and 3rd down efficiency. You can't tell me he doesn't know what he's doing. The problem is you can only do so much with a mostly JV roster.

    PTR

If WEO added a /sarcasm I'd agree 100%. Gailey knows how to move the ball and score points. We are way more efficient in: red zone touchdowns since... when? 3rd and long conversions since... when? I'd like the same amount of "confusion" on the defense.

  3. Um, you are aware that Cutler threw something like 26 interceptions last seasons, and that Mike Martz offenses put a low priority on protecting the QB? Chicago isn't wining because of offense, it because of their defense. Teams that can pressure Cutler beat the Bears. The Bills couldn't apply the necessary pressure.

I've been a Bills fan a long time; take a look at Jim Kelly's '86 season. He choked away several games, trying to carry a pretty talentless team.

When the defense can generate some sacks, and hold the opposing team under, I don't know, say, 140 rushing yards a game, you won't need to rely on the QB as much in crucial situations, and then the value of converting 3rd downs and reading defenses will become more valuable.

I really don't know what you're saying here, because just about every 'elite' QB in this league has thrown a crippling interception (see Manning in the SB last season).

There has to be more to judging a QB than his interceptions. For the first time since Kelly, the Bills have a QB that can read defenses. He's not stymied by the cover 2 or the 3-4. He can make throws under pressure, which has made a bad line look decent. He gets the ball outside to the receivers. And he's actually throwing TDs.

No doubt the interceptions are frustating, but basing the entire evaluation on these picks considering that the team has had no running game, no pass rush, no rush defense, missed field goals and PATs, and few turnovers is unfair.

Spot on. Please post more often.

  4. New GM, same dumb ass moves. Lets keep bringing in other teams washouts because the used to be a name and keep sucking. but hey, ralphs cronies read you guys loving these moves so they keep making them and you guys keep flocking to the stadium to fill his pockets

    Your alternate post:

New GM, same dumb ass non-moves. A pro bowl linebacker is available, but the Bills front office decides to keep sucking. But hey, ralphs cronies read you guys as loving the promise to build through the draft.

And you guys keep flocking to the stadium to fill his pockets

You are over the top as was Dog14787.

  5. Losman did well by throwing the ball deep, until teams realized that when you face Losman, you double cover Evans and force him to beat you with the underneath stuff. Trent did well with the short game until teams realized that when you face him, you take away the short stuff and force him to beat you deep.

Trent Edwards has averaged 6.5 yards per attempt over the course of his career. Losman has averaged 6.6 yards per attempt. This Bills released both quarterbacks outright, which strongly suggests no one else was interested in trading for them.

I got the sense that in press conferences, both quarterbacks were focused on saying the politically correct thing and not making waves.

I don't see why you feel Losman is more of a man than Trent. Neither quarterback is a manly leader like Kelly. Both quarterbacks have shown toughness by taking a ton of punishment behind a porous Bills line. Both have missed significant time due to injuries. But a lot of quarterbacks would have gotten injured playing behind a line like that!

I'll grant that Losman took more risks on the field than Edwards did. But for all we know, Jauron and the Bills' coaching staff instructed Edwards to avoid taking risks. Perhaps they told Edwards that Losman had been benched for taking too many risks. I don't really see how you can blame a player for doing what his coaches have told him to do. Edwards only had two games under a non-Jauron/van Pelt coaching staff, and he didn't get any pass protection at all in either game. When you're not getting protected, you're not going to be able to wait for the deep game to open up.

I'm not trying to justify Trent's playing style. It was obvious that neither he nor Losman had a very good idea about what was going on out there. They made up for that lack of awareness in different ways: Trent by focusing on dump-offs, Losman by locking onto his primary target. Fitz, on the other hand, has a much better sense of what's going on; so he can take the right risks, while avoiding the wrong ones.

Great post. The one thing I don't understand is the sea change in offense between the last half of 2006 (where JPL had a bit of success in running the O) and the pathetic playcalling in 2007, which seemed to negate his strengths.

  6. i can't take the bipolar nature of bills fans. to rip on fitz after this game shows how many morons post on this board. Fitz drove the team down for a game-tying TD on the ROAD. This guy has been as cool and collected as you can get on 3rd downs and lets not forget how many drives he kept alive with his feet. Fitz is 27yrs old, not 35. He understands Gailey's system and is managing the offense to a level we haven't seen in Buffalo in years. Lets at least wait until the end of the season, before we run him out of town as well.

Thank you. I haven't seen offensive production like this since Ted Marchibroda. Granted, it's only a few games, but how long has it been since we had an offense that could convert third downs, and come from behind to tie games? I'd keep the O as is and draft for D.

  7. I dont see the part i said I want Edwards back..Please show me so I can commit suicide....Im ok with it also cuz really the less games they win the better choice we have and the quicker the rebuild is hopefully..

    :D :D :D :D

Sten, I actiually agree, but honor dictates that we win a game or two. I want to see production this year.

  8. If you arent drinking koolaid and you are a qbs coach please explain the lack of making a big play when its there time after time in the clutch..The interception at the end of the game was a peewee football throw, the Overthrow by ten plus yards to Cj Spiller down the sideline??? Real qbs make plays when the game is on the line, they dont turtle up and pee down their leg...He is a good backup but in no way do I want him as The "QB"...

So you want Trent back? Fitz is what he is. He reads defenses, and audibles very well. Yes, it would be nice if he had better physical skills. I'm OK with him running the offense to evaluate other players. We will win a game this year.
