1. This seems like fun!

    1) Bill Polian - for not locking up Will Wolford when he had the chance. (IIRC BP was quoted "We don't negotiate contracts during the season" He snoozed, we lost.)

    2) Ralph - for firing BP (credit also given to Jeff Littman by previous poster)

    3) John Butler - for giving away the farm to all the "fine young men" (John Fina, Glenn "Porky" Parker, Lonnie Johnson, ad infinitum) See #1 above.

    4) Ralph - (again) for the handshake deal w/ Jim Kelly, who I believe could have survived (at least) another season if not for #1 above. Which brings us to...

    5) Todd Collins - (dance, dance, dance...) and now...

    6) Doug Flutie - who IMO further ruined the OL (how the heck can you have blocking schemes for your QB if you have absolutely no clue as to what he's gonna do?) which takes us to

    7) RJ - (let's grasp for straws!) and now

    8) Ralph - for interfering in the QB selection which leads us to the firing of

    9) Wade - just put the %%#$ headset on willya? Great defense back then. What a waste. so

    10) Ralph - hires 11)TD who brings us

    12) GW - "I don't want to talk about last years' defense, mine is better" who then jettisons Fat Ted, Cowart (although injured) and brought in marvels like Eddie Robinson and 13) Jerry Gray, 14) DB even though the OL has been in disarray for many years (see #1 Above) so 15) TD decides that the Tennessee model doesn't quite cut it, and invents Pittsburgh north, with 16) MM and 17) TC plus Gray trying so valiantly to drive square pegs into round holes. I swear if it wasn't for Bobby April, I'd probably go jump off a bridge somewhere.

  2. The way that.......Jim Rome......breaks up his..... sentences.....into four or five word......fragments.....as if we are all......too stupid to......comprehend.....anything longer than that.....gives me a raging.....desire......to jump through the........radio speaker.......and strangle him.....

  3. Maybe real estate works different in Buffalo, but everything I'm saying works fine in San Diego. The cheapest crap house fixer upper in San Diego starts at 500,000. So buying a house in San Diego at 720K can use a lot of work.

    Yeah, Buffalo lives under different rules. For $720K you can buy 3 beautiful houses that need nothing and park a new Benz in the driveway of each to boot. In fifteen years you'll be lucky to get that $720,000 back, and the Benzes will have taken a shot, too. My example 1600 sq. ft in Tonawanda, $79,000 in 1992. Today, $75,500. Taxes have gone up 40%, though.

  4. I will say, if the Steelers do win, I would be extremely happy for Bettis, he has been a class guy throughout his whole career, just wish there was a way Bettis could win and Cowher could lose...

    I agree. If only Cowher coached for the Hags I'd root for PGH in a heartbeat. Mr. Jaw reminds me of a bully cop. OTOH I can't stand Seattle due to their repeated stompings of us (ALWAYS in the Kingdome) after Chuck Knox went there, combined with their taking out of Robb Riddicks knee way back when. Guess I'll just get drunk and vomit on the TV.

  5. This has bugged me for quite some time.  Why is the game played on Sunday?  Why not Saturday?

    590982

    As long as we're giving What Ifs? I think that the winner of the previous years SB should host the game. I know - no dome, it may snow, the players uniforms get dirty, etc. But what a reward. If it were ever held here, we'd probably have to put the media up at the "Y" due to lack of area hotel rooms.

  6. <snip>

    The main problem I see on the Bill right now is that under the TD regime he did some extraordinary things both on and off the field, but overall, his primary motivation (either conciously or unconciously) seemed to be making sure that he did not have an HC here that could run him out of town like Cowher did.

    He seemed almost passive/aggressive in managing GW virtually not minding if he failed as long as he did not get blamed but really keeping GW on a short leash (as seen in the sorry Larry Centers incident)

    Could you elaborate on this incident with Centers?

  7. Stats definitely do not tell the whole story.  He was a great back.  A winner too.  He was smooth, yet powerful.  Later in his career, he was money when it came to short yardage.  Just like Rob Riddick was.  Remember him?

    554526

    Sure do remember Robb. He was our prototypical change of pace back behind Cribbs, way before Kenny Davis or Don Smith (#30 - remember him?) 3rd & 3? No problem! Give it to #40 - 1st down! I also remember him getting cheap shotted in a pre season game at Seattle. Took a swing pass and the $#$% Seahag corner dove directly at his right knee. I watched it buckle on live TV. Robb was never the same after that...tried to come back but kept getting hurt. I still hate Seattle for ruining the career of someone who IMO was destined for greatness.

  8. yet deeper into his career thurman said he was a great pulling guard who had helped him make his career.

    I guess my whole point here is that if things were reversed - MW drafted in 1980 1st round, riding the bench several years, under the tutelage of Jim Ringo the whole time; and Ritcher drafted 2003 1st round, immediately a starter, several different OL coaches - which would be called a bust?

  9. you're right about ritcher, but he did develop and progress nicely over time. he was never regarded as a bust in his first few seasons.

    549452

    So true...but the Eighties were a very different time. Ritcher was disappointing for quite a while, and took several years to enter the starting lineup. I doubt if any 1st round pick would be given that kind of leeway now.

  10. in their history, the bills have made the following picks in the first round for offensive linemen:

    <snip>

    1980 - jim ritcher

    <snip>

    lesson one: usually, offensive line picks in the first round are among the surest bets.

    lesson two: given that drafting offensive linemen in the first round is almost always a sure thing (particularly for the bills), mike williams has to rate as possibly the biggest bust in bills draft history -- worse than patulski, tony hunter, and dokes.

    Hi all - First post...

    Jim Ritcher was an Outland Trophy winning center who took many years to develop to his Super Bowl RG position. I remember watching quite a few games when he came in to relieve (or in the case of a certain St. Louis game where Dobler was benched, start in place of) my namesake (n.b. I am not he, but Connie is still one of my all time favorite Bills...watching him pull on Joe Cribbs running plays with two bad knees told me all I needed to know about his cojones.) and so many times Fergy would be sacked.
