  1. OK......so lets say they sign revis (which I imagine will keep us from signing Hughes

    - What do we do at DE?

    - Our OL situation is abismal......we need at least 2 OG's, a TE, a RB, and the ever elusive QB

Then we have to think about how Glenn and Darius are signed beyond this year.

Revis will cost a MINT....and we are spending it on the side of the ball that was ranked 4th last year

What you do at DE is plug someone in next to the three Pro Bowlers. Will that person(s) be as effective as Hughes? No, because Hughes is really good. Would DE suddenly become something to worry about with Hughes gone and Revis aboard? No, because the rest of the DL is an absolute monster.

RBs are a dime a dozen and QB's not getting fixed this offseason, no matter how much money you want to throw throw at it. They've gotta augment the entire team around a less-than-ideal QB situation. That includes the defense. Signing Revis would not preclude the Bills from improving the OL/TE positions.

  2. Another stratosphere? Really? We have a top 5 defense without Kiko now. Revis is 29yrs old and going to command big money. Our secondary is one of the best in the league now without Revis. This is wasted money. Money that can be spent on fixing things that need to be fixed. Even if we cannot retain Hughes, we still need to find a replacement. Our offense has been a perennial bottom feeder for years and we need to bring in a veteran QB.

The concept of working on things that are actually weaknesses seems to be lost on people here. Everybody has heard of Revis though, so that must be a good get. I don't buy it. Our OL sucks. Our QB situation sucks. Our RB and TE spots could use some improvement but hey....lets go buy something we don't need.

You're not fixing QB this offseason. It's either Manuel or some other flawed option. No use allocating a ton of cap space to that position, considering the lackluster options. The Bills have the cap room to sign Revis and improve in other areas (OL, TE). If they can add one of the best defenders in the game for a semi-palatable contract - which remains to be seen - they should do it, regardless of position. Revis in, McKelvin out transforms a good secondary into an all-world one. A defensive line without Hughes and with the Williams bros and Dareus would more than hold its own. I love Hughes, but it's true. Combining those three with an LB corps whose best player will return, a secondary with Revis, Gilmore, Graham and Williams and a defensive genius (Ryan) at the helm would be magical.

  3.

Haven't really paid attention to Revis lately but is he still good?

If not this concerns me that Rex is is going after old guys that he knows and still thinks are good.

Revis is elite, let alone good. PFF rated him as the fourth-best corner in the league during the regular season and his passer rating against was in the 60s. That's despite facing teams' top receivers week in and week out. He turns opposing QBs into bums when they throw his way, for all intents and purposes.

  4. I don't get the impression that the Bills will be looking to cut people in order to save cap space.

They should be if they can use the cap space to address more pressing issues - i.e., OL or TE. In addition to Revis, free agents like Mike Iupati and Julius Thomas are perfect fits for the Bills. They're also going to cost a lot. The Bills don't need to dedicate $4.9 million to a No. 4 corner.

  5. There is no doubt the Jets need him more than the Bills do. Interesting though - Revis, Gilmore, Graham, Leo, and Robey? That's one way to try to to beat Brady.

I like McKelvin, but his presence would become superfluous with Revis in Buffalo. Cutting him saves the Bills a combined $6.8 mill the next two seasons and Revis-Gilmore-Graham would be one of the best CB trios in the game.

  6. What has Mike Shanahan done to merit a role atop a front office? He's made his hay as a coach and done poorly as a personnel guy. What has Kyle Shanahan done to earn a head coaching job? His offenses haven't lit the league on fire. It would be a joke to hire these two in those particular roles. I'd be OK with them as an HC/OC tandem, but that's it.

  7.

Yes, but if their only success comes with an elite QB at the position...buyer beware.

There's "buyer beware" associated with every single candidate. They're all flawed in some way. Reich's only success has come with Rivers. Bevell looks good now with Wilson and Lynch, but he really didn't in Minnesota. The only time he didn't underwhelm there was with Favre in 2009. Dan Quinn has maybe the most talented defense in the NFL; coordinating that defense got his predecessor, Gus Bradley, a head coaching job and he's done absolutely nothing in two years to prove he's a capable HC. Etc.

  8. Back in 2011, an unnamed coach told Peter King that one of quarterback Andy Dalton’s red flags was his red hair.

“Has there ever been a red-headed quarterback in the NFL who’s really done well?” the coach wondered. “It sounds idiotic, but is there any way that could be a factor? We’ve wondered.”

I wish I could say it's surprising that someone this stupid is coaching/has coached in the NFL. Sadly, I can't.

  9. So was Bellicheat.

Belichick was an elite coordinator before becoming a head coach (unlike Shurmur), and he had more success as a head coach with Cleveland than Shurmur did. Granted, Belichick's tenure with the Browns didn't go well. Shurmur's was a lot worse, though. Doing your due diligence and talking to a lot of candidates is terrific, but not when you're so meticulous that you end up scraping the bottom of the barrel - as the Bills are in this case.
