  1. Miller is a project, Henderson is a depth player. Urbik is better suited as a backup but is, at the moment, a better overall player than both. That's kind of the point. The young guys aren't good and the good guys aren't young.....or even that good.

The LT, LG and C are all legitimately good players. Not a single one of them is so old that it's problematic.

Polian should've just said the right side of the line is terrible and needs fixing. Then he'd have actually sounded clued in on this subject.

  2. The story about Jim Leonhard is really telling. He is a player we knew was marginal but who hung on in NY for a while. Polian's story seems a bit too specific to be false.

I totally believe it. Leonhard played under Ryan or a Ryan disciple, Pettine, for almost all of his career from 2008-14.

Here I have to disagree with you. 3 of the Bills 4 best OL will be 30+ to start the next season. Put differently, there is only player currently on the OL who isn't a major project or bust who will be under 30 next season. His assessment on that was accurate and I feel I should give credit where it is due.

Of course, a broken clock is right twice a day.

Two are starters, Incognito and Wood (if Incognito sticks around), and neither is remotely a problem. Who's the third? Urbik? Having a 30-something depth player isn't an issue. Again, the two youngest starters on the line are the weakest links.

  3. Exactly. He was great until 5 years ago and then he became an abject moron who knows less about building a successful NFL franchise than your average message board poster. We're on the same page.

Well, his questionable-at-best thoughts on the O-line don't make him look better than an average message board poster. It's a group that needs improvement, but not because of its advanced age. The right side is the problem, and the starters there (Henderson and Miller) have a combined three years' experience. Old man Incognito is terrific. So is Glenn, who's 26. Wood isn't great, but he's solid enough - and not even 30 yet.

  4. I don't think they should listen to anything Polish has to say at all. They can get much more informed opinions by perusing this message board. Emotionally charged fan analysis > HOF FO analysis.

Yeah, everything he says is right. The old age of the offensive line is the problem. Never mind that, when healthy, four starters range from an ancient 22-29 and the eldest member, 32-year-old Incognito, is either the group's best or second-best player.

The Bills and a large chunk of their fans living in the '90s got old awhile ago.

  5. Because ur defense was great and it would only get better with him in charge. If he got a true off coordinator like Gailey our team would have a better record than last season's 9-7.

As has been proven time and again, being a good coordinator doesn't mean you're head coaching material. Not sure how many times you watched the Lions when Schwartz was their head coach, but I recall many mind-boggling decisions in the games I saw. He was really bad in that role.

  6. EJ and the Bills were winning the Jax game 35-30 with 4 minutes left. The "great" Rex Ryan defense let Blake Bortles go 73 yards to take the lead. EJ had a HORRIFIC game, but it said a lot that they fought and regained the LEAD under his leadership. I often wondered how the HEADLINES would have read if the D wouldn't have allowed that drive and the Bills would've won that game?

The defense wasn't the problem that day. A bogus third-and-15 PI call on Roby saved the Jaguars' asses - not to mention Hughes was clearly held on the ensuing TD pass.

Manuel handed the Jags 21 straight points in that game. The Bills' defense stuffed the Jags for most of the day after that, including contributing a goal-line stand and a touchdown by Graham.

  7. Even if there's technically nothing illegal or illicit about it, for the life of me I don't understand why you would post this on social media for the world to see. There is nothing positive to be gained from it, and you'd have to really lacking to not realize some people might view it in a less than positive light (no pun intended)

Exactly. Of course a video of an athlete smoking something, regardless of what it is, isn't going to go over well.

  8. How do you define good? And what does he do to fulfill that?

How about assembling quality staffs and going at least .500 four times out of six (and making multiple trips to the final four) despite having nothing but horrendous QBs at his disposal? Unfortunately, the Bills aren't in a very good position under center, but this is the most talented team Ryan has had since his first two with the Jets and those years went swimmingly for him.

  9. Huh?

What are you having trouble comprehending?

Keep on spending your money on expensive toys and see where it gets you, Mr. Snyder. Revis is 29yrs old and OK McKelvin is the same age. I knew someone would start the comparison game. Frankly, you never even read my post. I even stated that I did not say that McKelvin was better. Again, the Bills pass defense is right now ranked 3rd best in the league. You think Revis all by himself is going to make it better, and after losing a 10 sack per season player like Hughes? Revis puts his pants on one leg at a time. He is going to fade just like a lot of great player do. Let's sign him up quick so he can fade on our roster. When was the last time you heard Charles Woodson's name in the news? Or in Pro Bowl discussions? Did you even know he was still in the league?

Of course Revis by himself is going to make the defense better. Elite defenders tend to do that. And of course he's going to eventually fade. Did I say the Bills should sign him to a super long deal that will cripple their cap situation years down the line? No, I didn't. I knew Woodson was still in the league. He's still playing at a high level. Pretty sure he picked off a pass against the Bills not too long ago.

Not true at all. Graham was playing safety before McKelvin got hurt. McKelvin would be the #3 CB. Unless we were going to use the money on another FA. I am fine with either. But, you don't cut depth for the sake of cutting people. You don't make CAP space if you are not going to use it. At least not in this new regime or other good teams.

i never said you cut depth for the sake of cutting people. But if cutting/trading McKelvin helps pay for Iupati or Thomas or someone who would bolster another need area, then it's a no-brainer. If they can afford to keep him while properly addressing their trouble positions, fine. All the better.

  10. Hughes alone accounts for 20% of Buffalo's sacks over the last 2 seasons. That is a position that cannot be ignored. Revis may marginally improve the secondary but not the way you are thinking. Then the notion of kicking McKelvin to the curb to make room for Revis is ludicrous too. McKelvin has been improving his game plus he is a great special teams player....plus he is younger. How much longer can Revis play? And at what cost?

If you want to see magical, fix the offense. There seems to be a preconceived notion that that Rex is inflexible. That the secondary must be man coverage for his defensive philosophy to work. Revis is a horrible idea. Just imagine how awesome our defense would be if they weren't on the field for 3/4 of the game week in and week out. For some teams, Revis makes perfect sense. For Buffalo, a competent offense puts the Bills in a position to dominate.

The defense today is all ready championship caliber. You are not going to get much better than this. Also, just think of the other defensive backs on the team who have been improving their game by working together....communicating together. You bring in Revis and tell all of your guys to play man coverage, you are asking them change from a system that is all ready working very well for them. Revis is agreat player....granted. But people are pretty quick to jump on the bandwagon without considering the whole picture. I know Rex is anxious to put his own stamp on this team, but I just think we have young talent that is more than capable on the D side to dominate. Revis is a household name but for years teams have tried going that route. Washington comes to mind. They liked to stock up on big name FAs. Didn't work out for them. We can pick up some great FAs this year. Young ones that actually improve areas that are not all ready considered a strength. Our passing defense is ranked 3rd in the entire NFL. And that is while the offense is ranked 21st in time of possession.

Keep the offense on the field longer and this defense will lead the league. Revis doesn't do that for us. Buffalo is 6th in interceptions. Revis had 2 interceptions this season. McKelvin had 4. Revis played very well for a long time. Earned a couple of big pay days. Big enough to draw national attention. He is good, but he is not the best corner in the league anymore. Now don't go getting the impression that I think Mckelvin is better. I did not say that. But you are actually suggesting that paying big money for a name is the right move. I happen to think it would be a huge mistake. The Buffalo defense is all ready very dominant against the pass and Revis will not make it better. The guys we have are young and have continued to improve. Why in the world would you want to break that up?

-How many sacks do you think Hughes' replacement(s) would have? Zero? Rex Ryan's the same coach who dragged six sacks out of Aaron Maybin's corpse. I'm pretty sure he could plug someone in to do an OK job next to three Pro Bowl linemen.

-Revis is a massive improvement over McKelvin, and he's the same age as McKelvin. You're talking about elite vs. decent. It's not even close. Using INT totals to compare players is totally disingenuous and devoid of context. Richard Sherman had four INTs. Do you think he and McKelvin are equal? I'll cite the facts/stats I did earlier: PFF had Revis as the fourth-best CB in the league this season and opposing QBs' rating when throwing at him was 67. That's equal to Blake Bortles' rookie rating. He turns opposing QBs into rookie Blake Bortles.

-For the umpteenth time, the offense can be improved with Revis here. It's not one or the other. You're pro-Hughes but anti-Revis? Newsflash: Hughes is also going to cost a lot.
