Buffalo Bills have intensified efforts to sign Josh Freeman, just as Raiders are 30 minutes from kickoff. Bills sense AFC East is wide open

Well crap, might as well stay up for the Raiders game and compulsively refresh this page and check Twitter all night. All this for a 2-3 team that hasn't won since the Clinton Administration. Seriously, what's wrong with me?

  2. I am suspicious that plantar fasciitis is another in a long line of chronic pain syndromes that are largely psychosomatic in origin. Like the ubiquitous lower back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, fibromyalgia. Not that the pain is not real or debilitating or that there are not real physiological events occuring--I'm just saying that I think there are many conditions where the origin is psychological, not structural and that plantar fasciitis may be one of them.

Byrd should read one of Dr. John Sarno's books, realize that his foot is structurally sound and get on the field.

Agree completely. I had chronic back pain for years until reading Sarno's book.

  3. Obviously these predictions don't factor in devastating injuries to our team, or our opponents. But I can see us sitting at 9-5 with two division games left to play.

@ Browns W--the bloom will be off the rose in Cleveland. They haven't seen a defense like ours, and their lack of firepower will finally stop them dead. (3-2)

Bengals W--The wheels are coming off in Cincy, and with Gilmore likely to be back, alongside McKelvin and may be Byrd too...watch out (4-2)

@ Dolphins L--They're for real. Four W's in a row seems like a lofty perch for this team. (4-3)

@ Saints L--Tough road game against the class of the NFC South (4-4)

KC W--We own these guys at home, that doesn't change this year (5-4)

    @ PITT W--Worst Steelers team in a decade. (6-4)

Jets W--Got our Ya-ya's out in what will be our worst game of the year (7-4)

Falcons (TOR) L--Unless something drastic happens, they'll be out for blood trying to keep pace with NO (7-5). Plus, Toronto? Yuck.

@ Tampa W--These guys are struggling. Don't see them righting the ship with stretch Glennon back there. (8-5)

@Jacksonville W--Worst team in the NFL. By a mile (9-5)

That sends us back to the Ralph for our last home game of the year in a match up against Miami...

It's funny how after a win almost every game seems winnable, and after a loss it feels like we might never win again. I think this is the most optimistic scenario that is still realistic, if that makes sense. I could see it happening, but I could also see 5-9. I'll predict 7-7, flipping the Pitt and Cincy games to losses. Then I'll say we beat Miami at home in week 16 and have an outside shot at the playoffs going into week 17 at New England.

  4. It seems that many posters are ignoring the fact that he may very well have enough discomfort in his feet that he's not able to play at anywhere close to an NFL level.

    In't that a possibility?

Given the entire context of the situation, Byrd's demeanor when he has spoken to the media, his agent's track record of ruthlessness, and a wide range of other factors, I'd say it's a very, VERY remote possibility.

It's far more likely that he is pouting because the Bills didn't give him the contract he wants.

  5.

I do simply because he's not doing himself ANY favors by not playing at the same high level he was before.

    GO BILLS!!!

Yeah but couldn't you make the same argument that if he wanted to do himself a favor and play at a high level this season he would have been at training camp so he learned the new D etc?

He didn't have a problem possibly undermining his success this season by skipping camp, so I don't think it's that outlandish to think he might be taking his sweet time coming back from the PF. Not saying that's definitely the case, but I don't think anyone can say for sure.

  6.

A player on the PS can't be called-up during a game. So they are going with just 2 QBs.

Exactly. I guess they could bump Thad up to the active roster if EJ has a setback and is not ready to go, but that would seem like a pretty big gamble since any team could snatch up Thad from the PS at any time. I realize that's not likely, but if it happened and EJ wasn't ready for some reason then we'd be screwed. All that to say I think this is pretty unequivocal evidence that EJ is good to go.

  7. Since it was buried, I repeat: Did any of the Tebow fans here watch his performance against the Bills on national TV?

Ironically, the Bills lack of a pass rush worked in their favor in that game, since there were no broken plays for Tebow to exploit. He would drop back, wait two seconds, not be able to pull the trigger, then run into someone. That is the strategy the Pats ended up using in the playoffs. And it is the strategy that any sensible D-Coordinator will use against him forever and ever, Amen.

Yep, watched that one game and it was indeed a terrible performance, and as an obsessive Bills fan I loved every minute of it.

But while we're talking about individual games, did you see the one where he threw for 300+ in beating the heavily-favored Steelers in the playoffs, who I believe had the top ranked defense in the NFL that season? Or any of these?

Look, he hasn't been consistent, and I'm not putting him in Canton. But to paint him as a bum is just ignorant in my opinion.

Ok, this thread is really dead to me now. Maybe.

  8.

He is an over-hyped bum. His sole purpose is to get onto a roster, then create enough turmoil to disrupt the team enough for him to back into playing.

He did it in Denver. He basically ruined a real QB's (Orton) career.

He is a fraud. He prays when the cameras are on him and says all the stupid, "aww, shucks, I'm a do whatever coach needs me to do. I'm a work real hard and make coach real proud."

    Puke

He's a fake. He's a bum. And most importantly, he sucks at football.

Haha, well, this is the kind of "thoughtful" and "well-reasoned" argument I'm used to hearing from the anti-Tebow crowd. But I think you inadvertently helped prove the point that the Tebow hate has little to do with how he plays football.

Random thought, then this thread can die forever: it must be awful going through life being the kind of person that truly hates someone for being a good guy.

  9. For the life of me I just don't get the "he can't play qb" crowd or all the hate toward this kid. He took the freaking Broncos to the playoffs, and beat the freaking Steelers. We all know his throwing issues. He is a winner who makes things happen who can win more games than he looses when given the opportunity.

He is good enough to play backup for the Bills. We need a veteran. We have an undrafted rookie as our only backup.

I think you said this better and more succinctly than I did. My thoughts exactly, except that I know where the hate comes from, and most of it is not because of how he plays football.

  10.

If Tebow was a talented player, I have no doubt that teams would be more than willing to deal with the circus like atmosphere that surrounds him through no fault of his own. But he simply isn't good enough to warrant all of the unwanted attention that he brings. Comparing him to Carr and Dixon is a pretty low standard.

The guy also stubbornly refuses to be considered for any other position and that's why he'll be at home this season barring some team being completely decimated by injuries at the QB position.

I compared him to Carr and Dixon because those are other guys who have been cut and who some are suggesting should be brought in as the Bills' third QB.

I mean you can play the numbers game all day - Tebow's career passer rating is 75 - certainly not great but in my opinion not bad enough that you would discount him from being a viable backup QB option. And again, that doesnt even take into account his running ability.

In terms of NFL starters, his career passer rating is right around guys like Alex Smith and Ryan Tannehill, and obviously it took Smith years to ascend to that level. Not saying he's Peyton Manning, but lets not make him out to be totally incompetent either.

  11.

What do the 32 NFL teams think of him as a football player? We know the answer to that, now don't we?

That's a fair point, but I think most people would agree that the lack of interest around the NFL has a lot to do with the media circus that comes with Tebow, as well as the fact that his fans will call for him to start as soon as the starting QB faulters even a little.

Those might be good reasons to avoid signing him, but in my opinion his performance on the field is not a good reason to avoid signin him.

By the way, even taking away his rushing stats (which is obviously a huge part of his game), Tebow has a better career PASSER rating than both David Carr and Dennis Dixon. Would people be up in arms if the Bills brought either of those guys in as their third QB?

  12. Versatility - Tebow is listed at 6'3" and 236 pounds. He has the height of a prototypical quarterback and the bulk of a running back, a combination that very few players at either of those positions have.

Keeps opposing defenses off balance- there is an element of suspense whenever he lines up on offense. Is he going to throw? Is he going to run?

In 2011, when Tebow started 11 games for the Denver Broncos, he broke 22 tackles, which tied for the highest total among quarterbacks that year with Michael Vick. Only 14 starting running backs had more broken tackles than Tebow that year. He also ran for six touchdowns that year, on only 122 carries. He thrives on short-yardage carries where he can truck through defenders on the way to a first down or touchdown.

He doesn't get enough credit for his ability to keep drives alive by avoiding sacks and picking up first downs with his legs.

Football IQ - he knows how to win games down the stretch, and his decision to run or pass is more often than not the right one. While he sometimes makes atrocious decisions as to where to pass the ball, passing the ball is often the right decision when he chooses it. You don't make the playoffs with a quarterback that possesses a terrible football IQ.

Character- Exhibits rare character on and off the field. He's a fantastic leader of men. He has an outstanding work ethic. Tebow never complains, whether it was the lack of support from the Denver front office, the constant berating from analysts across the country, or the internet commenters who use his religious beliefs as a punch line for a tired joke, he takes it all in stride without so much as a dirty look.

    Weakness - accuracy

Stop - you're making too much sense and raining on the Tebow hate parade.

I'm absolutely with you. The guy is unconventional but he's simply good at football. He has been hugely successful wherever he has been at every level of football when given a chance to start.

People seem to have this absolutely visceral hatred toward him because 1) he's in the news a lot, 2) he talks about God a lot, 3) he looks funny when he throws, and 4) they don't like his legions of fans.

I get all that, but people should at least TRY to not let those factors influence what they think of him as a football player.

  13. This didn't take long....if its serious it makes sense since he can probably run a read option...and we have 0 NFL starts at QB on our current roster. And we play the team that just cut him in 7 days..

Stop you're making too much sense. How dare you infringe on the Tebow hatefest that seems to stem almost exclusively from the fact that he 1) is in the news a lot and 2) talks about God a lot.

I can hear the outraged rebuttals now: "But but but his completion percentage is low! And he looks funny when he throws!"

Nevermind the fact that he has been successful and he has won whenever he has gotten a chance to start at quarterback, from high school to college to Denver.
