  1. I don't think the bills record next year will have any impact on their future in WNY. What will impact their future in WNY is the how the revenue sharing is going to end up.

    My point is:

The team is already struggling with attendance (especially toward the end of last season) and a step back (record wise) surely won't help attendance. It will do the opposite.

  2. Correction: We wouldnt be having this conversation if the whiners that infest this place hadnt started irrationally bashing marv and saying we are doomed, just because we may not re-sign ONE decent player.

It's NOT about re-signing one decent player because they will lose MORE than that!

It's about their approach to the up-coming season that has Bills fans (who don't have tunnel vision)

    up in arms!

THIS IS A PIVOTAL SEASON FOR THIS FRANCHISE and a step backwards could be disasterous for their long term future in Western New York!

  3. BOTTOM LINE:

None of us would even be having this discussion IF Marv and the Bills organization would have painted a more positive picture in his presser last Friday.

The sad part is a good number of the posters on this board are too nieve to realize that the Bills need much more than what this years Draft and Free-Agency will yield to even have a chance at the playoffs.

This team will take a big step backwards in 07!

  4. Listen...

At the end of the day the Bills are going to make a huge push for Cato June. This guy is unreal and 27. He is a younger version of London.

#1 - Cato June was a huge dissapointment for the Colts in 06 after having a great year in 05.

#2 - Cato June is a smallish weak-side backer, not a candidate for London

    's MLB job.

  5. We lost 4 starters from last years defense.

    Milloy

    Vincent

    Posey

    Adams.

Seemed we were ok last year.

Milloy and Vincent were well past their prime anyway and Posey was a big bust.

    Adams wasn't a fit here.

They won't be 'OK" this year due to the well documented off-season FA approach and the fact they will be facing a much tougher schedule in 07.

IF the Bills go 6-10 next season, consider it a good year!

  6. Doing "whatever it takes" means overpaying for players and coaches. Obviously that strategy hasn't worked for the Redskins.

The strategy didn't work for them last season, but it did in 2005 when they made the playoffs and advanced to the Divisional Round.

Their strategy at least gives their fan-base hope!

This Bills team is the 12th worst team in the league according to where we are Drafting and we are losing at least 2 starters from an average defense.

To take this team to the next level and give it a chance to compete for a playoff berth, they need a very aggressive offseason which won't happen according to Marv!

  7. One of his opening lines in the press conference was relating what he told the players at the end of the year. This was "Our goal is not to get to the Super Bowl, but to win the Super Bowl."

I guess I am struggling to figure out what else he needed to say...

Sure, he did say that he told the players at the end of the year that his objective was not to just play in the bowl but to win the bowl. But my point it he could have followed that up with what I stated that they are committed to doing whatever it takes rather than to say that they won't go overboard in FA.

Never at any point in the presser did he give anyone the impression that they are ready to do whatever it takes to take the team to the next level.

The Bills would have been better off not holding the press conference and let the Bills fans hope they would be agressive in the offseason to improve this team.

    That's My point!

  8. Wouldn't it have been great (especially from a PR standpoint) if Marv would have come out and said

"As an organization we will do whatever it takes to get this team to the next level and are committed to bring a Super Bowl Championship team to the Western New York area".

My guess is had Marv said something along those lines there wouldn't be ANY reason for ANY Bills fan to come away with a negative feeling toward the future.

I personally don't like the way the Redskins throw their money around in FA, but it sure gives their fans a positive feeling that the team is willing to go the extra mile or two to have a chance to "WIN IT ALL" regardless of their choices in FA.

It looks like a good plan, but they won't spend the type of Money that G Steinbach will be looking for on the open market.

  10. 2006 was an average year for the Bills. They proved they could be competitive, yet clearly not a dominating team, or a team capable of making a trip to the Super Bowl. If the front office is not interested in retaining key free-agents, or adding players to make the team better, can we draw a conclusion that the Super Bowl will not happen in the next year, or two, or even more?

Every season starts with the goal and aspiration to be Super Bowl champs. If you know your team cannot make it, do you get as excited and pumped up as when you believe the team has a chance? That being said, is it any wonder that they had a hard time selling out games in 2006? Why would someone, who is not a die-hard Bills fan, attend a Bills game? Early on in 2006, when it looked like the Bills were mathematically eliminated, I think some people decided not to buy tickets to the games because the team had no post-season hopes. (I have season tickets so do not criticize me. But you have to admit that it is human nature to support a winning team.)

What are they giving the fans to look forward to? In 2006, at least we could watch a young quarterback develop in front of us. But, 2006 was the year to see if Losman was our quarterback. Fans will not tolerate nothing more than a science experiment in 2007-- this team needs to start winning! Losman definitely needs some upgrades around him if that is to happen. And the defense is taking a couple of hits this year with the apparant departure of three free agents.

I think their cash-to-cap approach is too cheap for this league and will not result in a competitive team that can take down the dominant teams. Translation, even if they make the playoffs, it's a first round out. I think next year's ticket sales will again be disappointing, resulting in more involvement by Schumer and revenue-sharing criticism by Ralph. And at some point, some media yahoo is going to question the desire of the fans to keep a team in Buffalo. I will say now, don't blame the fans or the fan base. It lies with the conscious decision and announcement by management not to take this team to the next level.

    I totally agree!

I started a topic on this very subject (in a shorter version) not seeing this post.

  11. I'm just in the mood to vent just a bit.

After the Bills presser yesterday, I came away convinced that the Bills organization wants to put a competitive team on the field. But by no means will they do whatever it takes to get this team to the next level = playoffs. Not to say that the Bills don't want to win the Bowl, but in reality given the team they have right now and the obstacles (small market revenue etc) that they face, I think the Bills know deep down inside that it will be a huge uphill battle that will be tough to conquer.

Since it's a foregone conclusion that the team will lose Clements and Fletcher in FA and the fact that they won't be ultra-competitve in the free-agency (despite a ton of cap space) and have several BIG needs to fill (O-Line, DT, MLB, etc) I just can't see how the team will get better this offseason having to use the Draft as the sole means of re-stocking this team. Yes, I know they will sign a few free agents but the money they are committing to FA, won't be enough to land any decent players to fill the holes the Bills have at this time.

Bottom Line - The Bills had better hit the jackpot in the Draft, or face the reality that the team will take a step back in 2007.

  12. Please explain to me how this years schedule is tougher then playing the 13-3 Bears, the 14-2 Chargers, the 13-3 Ravens, the 12-4 Pats TWICE, and the 12-4 Super Bowl Champion Colts last year.

What makes any of the NFC East teams tough for 2007?

Giants: No Tiki, defense soft, Eli overrated...

Redskins: Average team at best next year

    Cowboys: Paper tigers

Eagles: Good solid team, but hardly unbeatable...

Bengals: Prove it before I believe the hype...

Steelers: Losig Cowher, 1st year HC...who knows what to expect...

    Enlighten me.

Ok we played playoff teams 6 times counting the Patsies in 2006.

In 2007 we could will be playing as many as 12 playoff teams (if you count the Pats and Jets that's 4 teams). We also have Cincy, Dallas, Denver and Baltimore at Home plus Philly, Wash who will be much improved and tough at home, Jacksonviile super tough at home and Pittsburgh looking to bounce back and another toughie on the schedule. 12 Playoff teams is twice the amount we played last season according to my math.

You have just been enlightened! :worthy:

  13. It doesn't sound like they are too interested in competing for Clements, Fletcher etc on the open market which is no surprise since Ralph has been whining about money since last season.

Marv also made it sound like the Bills aren't too interested in making a big splash in free-agency but he sounded like they will go out and sign a few Robert Royals instead.

Marv didn't give anyone the impression that the Bills are ready to do what ever it takes to get this team to the next step which wasn't a good PR move since the team just raised ticket prices but needs to renew season tickets.

I rarely agree with the guys on GR55, but they hit the nail on the head when they said that it was a very depressing presser.

Seeing that the Bills have a much tougher schedule next season, be prepared for a step backwards in '07.

    :worthy:

  14. Brilliant. Just goes to show how much you know about the Bills. I'll bring you up to speed. When JB got canned as GM by RW... AJ Smith snubbed RW. Not that RW even considered him a candidate as a successor, but AJ Smith & JB were joined at the hip... and JB was sick and tired of RW and his meddling. AJ Smith knew first hand what JB was dealing with and gladly followed JB to SD.

Goddammit I hate it when dickheads try to start stupid rumors.

    Just Shuuuut Up! :pirate:

And read the post correctly you moron! :worthy:

If you brought me up to your speed I would still be pulled over for going 20 miles under the speed limit!

    Have a Nice Day! :wallbash:

Shaud Williams deserved to make the team...all he does is keep the chains moving when he's in there. :w00t:

Rashad Baker and Eric King should have made the roster...Coy Wire and Leonard should have been cut.
