  1. I'm sold on JPL being our best option for 2006, and he better get 16 starts as we rebuild.  Based on how he does in those 16 starts, next winter we decide if he is the direction we want to go (I think so now), or if we need to do something else.  But there are no options we have now to do better than JPL, and we have more important areas to address this off season while giving JPL the chance he deserves after what we have invested/risked on him.

Yes, let's just spend ANOTHER season treating the season like some sort of training school to him. There are 52 other players out there. Let's just put the best player on the field and be done with this training crap. If the guy is the best QB then he will be a starter, anything else would be a waste in today's NFL.

  2. There is a belief in Buffalo that many fine candidates for the GM job were passed over to bring in an octogenarian who badly wanted to get back into the game he walked away from in 1998. That may be true, but the fact is Levy’s final team finished 10-6 and lost an AFC wild-card playoff game to Miami on the road, 24-17. The Bills have been in the playoffs once since, and that was the following season with essentially the same team Levy left behind. It’s been downhill ever since, despite the hiring of smart, energetic, young football men like Wade Phillips, Williams, Donahoe, Modrak and Mularkey, so why not try hiring a smart, old football man with a proven record of not only getting into the playoffs but winning once he got there?
  3. It can't be a pretty poor generalization when you say the same thing: "In general, I will say that at any of the "elite" schools there is a large proportion of students who had a leg-up b/c of alumni connections".

What I was saying is that the undergrad programs at the Ivyies are not really that different then any other schools.  Of course you will have your percentages of very smart folk, your jocks, your middle of the roads - but you also get a lot more money students and connection students because they are the ones who can afford to pay the Ivy cost.

Actually the average income of the family who sends their kid to state school is higher than the that of the ones who send a kid to private school. The reason for this is the generous financial aid available at the latter.

  4. That's a painful thought.  I am sure many of us remember JK's foray into broadcasting some years ago.  He made Phil Simms sound positively erudite.

I think he struggled most on NFL Countdown than anywhere else. I didn't think he was too bad as the third guy on one of the NBC teams. He was improving.... It just was hard to listen to the guy b/c you felt sorry for him whenever he did badly.

But anyway, I actually like Phil Simms.

  5. The key here is whether Wyche was forced out or not. My feeling is that this was his choice either because of the loss of MM and/or his continuing health problems. Doesn't he need a heart transplant at some point?

In any event, I hope that this was a decision on his end. I see no reason why he should have been let go. I guess the true story will eventually come out in the media.

  6. Okay for all you middle aged guys who can't figure out Fake-Fat Sunny....

Mike Mularkey has the initials MM. The rapper EMINEM (M and M, short for Marshall Mathers) is famous for his song The Real Slim Shady. The opposite of real would be fake, the opposite of slim would be fat, and the opposite of shady would be sunny. Is it all coming together now?

Wow, I never picked up on that being his name. Considering my awareness of all that you just said, it's kind of sad that I did not.

  7. If I'm not mistaken, the interviewer, Chris Russell, is Tim Russells (Meet The Press) son.  The Russell's being from Buffalo makes for a lttle bit of a homer interview.  And with some of the national media beating the crap out of the Bills, it is somewhat a breath of fresh air to have a little pro-Buffalo out there.

Russells? Russell? I think you mean Russert.
