1. Jets | Blaylock Agrees - from www.KFFL.com

    Thu, 3 Mar 2005 16:13:35 -0800

Dave Hutchinson, of The Star-Ledger, reports the New York Jets have signed unrestricted free agent RB Derrick Blaylock (Chiefs) to a five-year, $11.1 million contract that includes a signing bonus of $3.2 million.

Thats FAR from scary and with McKenzie set to be gone, Martin may finally show his age next year. This is good for the Bills. If I were a Jet fan, I would be clamoring for a young stud RB like McGahee, there loss, our gain.

  2. Everyone knows I feel we are putting JP to the fire too soon.  However I will go on record and say no matter how JP does in the future we got the better of this trade because we needed our future QB last year.

I just feel he is starting 1 year too soon.

    261654

I can understand your feeling on him going in too early. I agree that we needed to get him early and that we win on the trade.

  3. i wonder if at the end of the year bill parcells will be wishing that the cowboys had kept their 22nd pick and took jp for themselves!so we had to trade a 1st round pick to get bledsoe and we had to trade a 1st round pick to get rid of him in essence.i personally feel jp will do just fine ,he will have some growing pains ,but he will lead us to a 10 win season and if we catch a break here and there maybe even 11 wins!go bills in"05

    261620

Im not sure we can answer it yet. We need to see who they grab at 22. Considering this weak draft, and a years leg up on our future at QB, Id say we did.

Remember though we didnt give up a 1st, we used our 1st last year on Losman, we traded a 2nd and another pick to do that. So we got Losman one year early for a 2nd and whatever (4th, 5th?). Thats a good deal.

  4. Having Jonas go was just a matter of time last year.  I remember some talking about him going to the Falcons.  That was a stretch for us and not resigning him alright.  But what about Pat Williams?  I hope that one doesn't come back to bite us.  I think he meant a lot to the defense.  If we aren't going after these two who are we going after?  Jason Ferguson?

    261630

On my list of "wishes" I would put:

    1) to be a fly on the wall at OBD

    2) to own a crystal ball

    3) To have a wire tap on TD's phone

    4) to have TD be my neighbor

Then I might have a clue. The likely suspects are getting snapped up, so I have no idea.

I still am hoping for a big trade.

  5. Just saw this kid's combine #'s.  Looks like he had a monster workout.  Does anyone have any info about the guy (observations, projected round, etc.).

Prospect, School    Ht.      Wt.  Arm  Hand  Bench    40

    Scott Young, BYU  6035    312    34.3  9.2      43      4.93

    261583

a guy who looks great in the gym. So did Leaf Larsen.

If he come sup for a visit and is decided to be a great addition on the field, Im all for it. If he lasts till the 6th or 7th, why not, whats the risk?

I like his potential but question his on the field ability.

  6. We have already lost Jonas Jennings and Pat Williams, so consider that in your evaluation...but what if the following came to pass in the next few weeks?

    (1) We traded Travis Henry for LJ Shelton, who then became our starting left tackle.

    (2) We signed Kendrick Vincent who then became our starting left guard.

    (3) We were able to retain Marcus Price who remained a key back-up in our offensive line.

    (4) We were able to sign Anthony Becht who became our starting tight end.

    (5) We were able to sign Mike McMahon as our #2 QB.

How would you rate it?  All things considered, if this came to pass, I would have to rate it a solid B.  Losing Pat Williams is the biggest loss to our run defense...I'm not sold on Ron Edwards as a full 16 game starter.  But if we signed Shelton and Vincent, as well as Becht, we would have one solid blocking line for Willis to run behind.  And Mike McMahon would be a solid guy to have behind JP...and would be able to step in adequately if JP were to go down for a (brief) period of time.  Comments?  Thoughts?  Snide remarks?

    261602

I would give it a B that could escalate to an A if Shelton proves his worth.

    I like all the moves.

  7. UNCAPPED YEAR WILL LIMIT ELITE TEAMS

As the 2005 free-agency spending spree continues to unfold, more details are emerging regarding the realities of the looming uncapped year, which under the current collective bargaining agreement will occur in 2007.

Although, on the surface, the notion of no salary cap is a bonanza for players, we've recently reviewed the reality that the threshold for hitting the market will move from four years of service to six.

And there are more provisions that will, as a practical matter, limit the ability of players to cash in on this cash cow.

For example, each team will have in 2007 an extra transition player designation.  Under current rules, teams can use either a franchise or a transition designation.  In 2007, the additional transition tag creates a right of first refusal in exchange for a one-year average salary equal to the top ten salaries at the player's position or 120 percent of his 2006 salary, whichever is greater.

More importantly, the final eight playoff teams from 2006 will be limited in their free agency activities in 2007.  In other words, the rich won't be permitted to go out and try to get richer by spending their riches.  Richly.

Specifically, the teams in the conference championship games will be permitted only to sign their own unrestricted free agents or unrestricted free agents off of waivers.  They each also may sign an unrestricted free agent for each unrestricted free agent lost to another team.

    261465

Sounds like a big mess, how about simply re-upping the CBA which includes a salary cap.

As much as I hate Peter Brady and the Pats, I cant blame them for using there cap and I think it is the most fair system.

  8. If TD was targeting a player he could get in the late first round, how much would it cost to move up there.

    In Madden I could....just kidding.

    261426

Heres the link to the chart:

    http://www.steelerwatch.com/2005drvach.cfm

Looks like it would take a buttload. If your saying the 25th pick, thats a value of 720.

    Our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th:

    55th- value= 330

    87th- value= 155

    119th- value= 56

Total= 541, that wont get you the 25th. It WILL get you the 3rd pick in the 2nd round. But is it worth it?

  9. If TD was targeting a player he could get in the late first round, how much would it cost to move up there.

    In Madden I could....just kidding.

    261426

Really tahts not that funny but pretty damn realistic. The software writers probably used Jimmy's well known formula when writing Madden.

So, I dont have the formula in front of me but late 1st probably means a 2 plus 3 and 6 or so.

  10. A Panther   word is signing bonus in excess of 10 mil

    261341

Another great one bites the dust.

If TD thinks less is more, he is sadly mistaken.

I will be floored if this guy shoots himself in the foot by adding bargain basement yahoos. You get what you pay for.

Well, if the offense doesnt play any better than what TD called sub par this year, he can point fingers into the mirror!!!

  11. I am more and more confident each day that we are going to make a big move.

TD restructures Moulds, lets 2 FA's walk, cuts Drew, calls his O subpar, and then goes out of character and sits on his hands when FA starts?

NO WAY!!!!!!!!! He is a crafty bugger.

Hes up to something big, I promise!!!!!!!!

I needed a chill pill, thanks Mark VI. So do all of you.

Im taking shots at what the big move is.

Travis to GB for Chad Clifton

Plaxico Burress reunites with Mike and Tom as a huge sleeper pickup. Supposedly he was headed somewhere in the Pitt airport, maybe it was here!

Travis to Cards for Shelton, maybe they are still working on it.

  12. Why?  Look at the Pats OL. Can you name their starting 5.  However

Brady gets 6seconds to throw a pass downfield and Corey Dillon had the

    best career year last season.

What we want are smart player, not necessarily the high profile players...

    260276

I agree with youthat our players should play smart. But if your trying to convince me that we need 5 Ethan Albrights across our o-line, we have been THERE for years now and it aint done jack for THIS team. May work for the Pats, but it wont work here.

I think we are in for a sad set of years if we are trying to convert to the Pats.

BTW, Some guy named Joe Andruzzi was just signed to the Browns as a top rated G, guess where he played last year.

  13. "Lighten up, Francis."

You're quite high-strung, man. And you really need to stop getting so worked up over a game where 6th round picks have claimed 3 of the last 6 Super Bowl MVPs.

    260077

Well, you are from the Pats area. Apparently you buy into the enigma that is the Pats. Peter Brady is the leading reason they are where they are. The guy doesnt have the nuts to demand top 5 QB pay when he has 3 damn SB rings. Secretly Bob Craft and Belichump have to be laughing, giggling, and wetting themselves without Peter knowing it. They are making cracks like, "that fool has allowed us to have a dynasty". "Doesnt he pay any attention to what QB's with his resume get paid".

Whatever, this can NEVER be repeated anywhere else. Dont try it, it wont happen here, EVER!

  14. You are easily amused.

    260074

I cant understand why you are so difficult to make happy? Is it that there is only one damn QB in the whole league who was worthy of being our QB? same for DT? same for LT?

I admire your passion for players, its at the heart of being a real fan, but theres other guys out there. If you liked Flutie, why cant you hold off a bit. I think you will like LOsman even more.

  15. Phat Pat is a Big and Fast run stuffer who will make a nice tandem with Kevin.  The Bills have decided to throw in the towel for the next couple years by starting a raw kid at QB. By the time Losman is ready to make any impact (2008) Pat would be over the hill.

    260059

is your negativity/off button stuck? with what?

  16. Your starting to see the light.  We're going 3-13 this year while evaluating whether

or not Losman has an NFL brain to fo with his legs.

    260068

Clearly, your looking FAR away from the light.

We are too close to be downgrading, a few studs could put us squarely in the playoffs.

If you want to go the sky is falling route, go ahead, I aint with ya.

  17. But hey we still have Travis and Drew is gone.  <_<

    260060

Who held up the Travis trade? was it me? Was it the Bills? No it was your beloved Cards and Travis himself.

I wanted a sure fire upgrade, Shelton is questionable as an upgrade. What I DONT want is a sure fire downgrade!

Its not over yet, but I am growing concerned.

Maybe the Shelton deal still goes through. Id love a higher profile player but Shelton is better than nothing.

Maybe we still grab one of the high profile G's.

I hope we dont sit on our hands, that would be a HUGE mistake.

  18. Consdier this:

TD traded for Drew (a statue) and drafted Mike William, very high, and signed him for big money.

Was this done to protect an immobile QB? Would TD not normally have grabbed a big name O-lineman if we had a mobile QB?

This is a scary thought so dont read this with young children around.

Does TD plan to thrwo our Mobile QB, JP into the fire hoping that his legs will run away from whatever filters through our porous o-line?

Is he saying that he doesnt see the need to upgrade the o-line when you have a guy like JP who can scramble? That we should spend big money elsewhere?

I really hope we arent naive enough to think that you can start a young QB, have him see crazy pressure, and that he will be successfull right out of the gate. I really hope we arent headed this way. Roth was, in part, so successfull because he hadthe best o-line in the league. He doesnt have JP's wheels, but comfort inthe pocket lets your young guys make smart decisions. A playmaker with a die hard attitude like Lomsan will be tempted to throw it up there if he is pressured. This is a HUGE chance for mistakes and may cost us the playoffs or even a winning record if we go this route.
