1. since when is Tom Brady a top 5 QB in your eyes?  I thought he was a bum who couldn't carry the jocks of 1st-round QB's

    270516

Hey, you guys are the ones who keep claiming this.

Whats your point? The guy has 3 SB rings. That alone is worth something. I think he is a clown who would suck for any other team. But leading a team to 3 SB rings and then asking to be paid like a avergae QB is ridiculous, juts hows that this guy is a clown and probably knows deep down inside what I know, if it wasnt for his team, he would be average at best.

  2. Say what you will, but I firmly believe its a HUGE mistake to be so close, lose 2 important and solid players (Williams and Jennings) and not replace them.

Why sit on all that cap cash? How silly. Last year Philly put themselves in the SB by grabbing a few studs. This year it looks like the Vikes. If they sign Burress, and draft M Williams, plus trade for Darius. They would have made a few big grabs and put themselves into SB contention.

Why we arent doing this I have no idea, for the life of me.

If we think we can become 1/2 Pitt (young guy at QB, solid WR, great D) and then 1/2 NE (no names across our o-line) and get to the SB, were talking bigtime crash and burn, IMO!!!! We can never be the Pats, their combo of incredible coaching and a top 5 QB who wants to be paid like a bordeline starter cant be replicated...EVER!!! Stop trying, this recipe wont work here.

The Bills are weighing WAY to heavily on JP's legs. The guy needs to have the time to sit in there and make good decisions. Having time to throw will immensely help his learning curve. If you throw the guy into a porous line, you can expect him to be rattled, make lots of mistakes, and run alot.

Adding Womack is, at face value, a downgrade to Jennings at LT. If TEague is set to go to LT, maybe our LT position doesnt suffer, I cant remember how well Teague played at LT. At LG Womack is a HUGE upgrade.

Question is, if Teague goes to LT, maybe Womack at LG, who plays C?

MY guess is that the Bills believe David Baas will drop to their pick in the 2nd. They have been watching him and scouting him, he plays both G and C. He is the next Steve Hutchinson and would be a bigtime pickup.

So far, we have done jack squat as far as upgrading our ON THE FIELD team (Holcombe is gonna sit the bench if you remember). Yet, TD called out his O as being subpar. Apparently, you can move up by taking away from your talent?

    Get Womack!

  3. if we wait till the draft to address LG we could very well end up being stuck with tucker for another year..........we all know TD doesn't draft for need.......

sign demulling or vincent -- instant upgrade to our starting OL and our depth........

    267560

agreed on the drafting for need point. But, Baas and Elton Brown could easily be there or more likely one of the two, CJ Brooks will be there. With possibly 3 very good looking G's at our 2nd rounder, TD could grab him.

  4. A little more on Floyd from ESPN Insider and SCouts Inc.

    #77 Floyd Womack ESPN

    Height: 6-4

    Weight: 333 lbs.

    Pos: Offensive Tackle

    Age: 26

Born: November 15, 1978, Cleveland, MS

Drafted: 2001, 4th Round, 33rd Pick by Seattle Seahawks.

    Experience: 4 years

    College: Mississippi State

2004 Scouting Report - Football Scouts Inc.

    Name: Floyd Womack

    Position: Offensive Guard

    Grade: 68 | Key

    Alert: None

    Comment:

Womack is a dominant drive blocker when he can get his hands into the defender's frame. Possesses excellent bulk, will engulf undersized defenders at the point of attack and can wear defenders down over the course of the game. Takes good angles to blocks and works hard to get into good position. Plays with good balance and can sustain blocks. Has experienced playing tackle as well as guard and is somewhat versatile though a much better fit at guard. Takes too long to get out of stance and often gets beaten to the inside. Struggles to redirect inside after starting outside and is vulnerable to double moves. Lacks the burst to get to the second level quickly and doesn't have the lateral ability to adjust to the moving target in space. Isn't fast enough to get around the corner on pulls or traps, lacks range and offers little as a downfield blocker.

So, he is a solid player and would come at second tier T money and can start at RT day one.

    This is a decent o-line

    LT- M Williams

LG- Demulling, Baas, Brown, or Brooks

    C- Teague

    RG- Villarial

    RT- Womack

  5. TheRedZone.org, which keeps track of all FAs visits over the years and is one of the few football websites I actually trust, has Porkchop coming into town today for the Bills.

    Womack To Visit

It'll be curious to see if the Bills put anything up on their website about this.

    267503

FInally a visist from a very good T. He would be a great RT which would allow Mike to move to LT. Im not sure how mobile he is as far as filling the LT spot.

At, LT hes a reach, at RT he is a top of the second tier guy.

Mike at LT, Floyd at RT would be great!

I have no problem with DeMulling, he would be a very big upgrade, But Id rather grab a LG in the draft. There should be some very good guys at our 2nd round spot.

  6. Guess we should all hit the snooze button until training camp.

Can we please sign someone (no I dont consider Holcombe or Gandy someone).

Law- not needed but a stud who would be an upgrade

DeMulling- others were better and TD let him leave town

Franks- as the FA TE's get snapped up, teams will turn to Franks, why not beat them to the punch

Ohh and BTW, our #1 need position, LT is EMPTY!!!!!!!!!!

I have no idea what TD is doing, but I simply cant agree to dowgrading right now.

  7. Not Clayton, local media sources. Remember the brouha when I posted that the cap situation wasn't as rosy as it was being portrayed? I had the Bills $7.4 million under an estimated $86 million salary cap. Now the it's $85.5 million, so there's $500,000 gone. Local (and national) media sources were reporting $12-17 million under when I had $7.4 million. So, you can see where I can claim to be more accurate. Even recently, local sources had $7-9 million, I had my number down to $5.28 million.

Unfortunately, Bills do not get the same coverage as does the Skins, etc when it comes to contract details ;)

    263592

I think, with no proof, you are about 2-3 mil under on how much cap room we have. Thats a hypothesis (educated guess), kind of like your cap numbers are a hypothesis.

I am reading into your posts a bit, and please correct me if Im wrong, it seems you tend to lean under on your cap estimates and over on your FA deal projections. That is a nice way to say your a cap conservative who shys away from big FA deals.

Im the opposite and want afew studs, at the end of the offseason, lets review what happened. If your right, and we went the conservative route, I will be a believer. If Im right and the Bills make big moves that your numbers dont support (your cap numbers dont cover the moves). Please admit you were wrong.

I admire your passion and respect anyone who does this much work for the good of the board, I just disagree with the cheaper by the dozen mentality and feel we need to sign a few studs.

  8. Bills | Holcomb Agrees to Terms - from www.KFFL.com

    Fri, 4 Mar 2005 16:44:21 -0800

Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports the Buffalo Bills have agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent QB Kelly Holcomb (Browns). The contract agreement is for a four-year, $6.6 million deal, including a $2 million signing bonus. Holcomb is expected to compete with QB J.P. Losman for the starting job.

Hes not competing for the starting job. That position has already been announced as being filled, he is the backup plain and simple.

  9. it's not a question of available space.

It is a question of value for production from specific positions.

Just because at this point in time, there is cap room - TD would be pretty short-sighted to sign someone else's high priced cast off when the expected production doesn't justify the cost.

you can get comparable production at G for a lot less than $4 mil / year.

    262175

I totally agree, if you are arguing that we need the next Ethan Albright at the vet minimum, NO thats not an upgrade. If you want another Joe Andruzzi for 2-3 mil per, YES absolutely.

  10. out of all the RTs available in free agency, Kareem McKenzie is the most ready to move to LT... in fact, Herm Edwards has on occasions thought about switching Fabini and McKenzie on the line.

    262166

I didnt hear the talk about him at LT before. Im liking hiom more and more all the time.

  11. I just found this comment, Can this be true? Damn would this be nice to have on our team. How many times have holding pnealties killed us?

Kareem McKenzie, who has been called for only two holding penalties during his career. McKenzie was at Giants Stadium Thursday for meetings and a physical but wants to look around before signing.

    262130

He has played for 5 years, 4 playing all 16 games as a starter, is 6' 6" and 327 and has had 2 holding penalties in that WHOLE damn time? are you frikkin kidding me? This guy just skyrocketed to the top of my wish list.

Ruben used to AVERAGE 2 per game!

    # 67 Kareem McKenzie

    Position: T

    Height: 6-6

    Weight: 327

    Born: 05/24/1979

    College: Penn State

    NFL Experience: 4

    2001 New York Jets 8 0

    2002 New York Jets 16 16

    2003 New York Jets 16 16

    2004 New York Jets 16 16

Id give you the SCouts Inc report on him, but as far as ESPN is concerned Kareem McKenzie does not exist. Ill keep looking.

  12. And this explains why we've been so quiet on any discussions with the free agent O-linemen.

TD is going to make a move with one of the good RT's on market - McDougle, Riley, or McKenzie - as soon as a team steps up and sets the RT supply/demand price for everyone else.

Then, for LG, TD will nab one of the underrated guys - Vincent is my best guess - who isn't asking for as much money as the Wahles and Riveras of the market.

As for C, I don't see a single one who would be any sort of upgrade over Tucker/Teague - other than Raiola, who I somehow think McNally and TD aren't very high on. MAYBE a trade is in the works with Henry and a C, but I doubt it. I think Tucker and/or Teague, when sandwiched between Villarial and a bigger and better LG, will be OK as the weak link of the line.

And of course, Marcus Price should come relatively cheap.

    260019

I just found this comment, Can this be true? Damn would this be nice to have on our team. How many times have holding pnealties killed us?

Kareem McKenzie, who has been called for only two holding penalties during his career. McKenzie was at Giants Stadium Thursday for meetings and a physical but wants to look around before signing.

  13. You will not get a quality backup QB for vet minimum.  You will get a Rodney Peete for vet minimum.

You need more than 1 backup running back,  you also need someone who can start 3 or 4 games (Williams is a nice changeup but can't start)

Campbell is hurt and if rumor are correct may miss half the season

Nuge will be gone late first early 2nd

I would not start on rookie even at guard

Mcgee is a good nickle, I do not like him starting

    WR - agreed

LB - you can get one solid one in the draft, but we probably need 2 (there are only so many 2nd and 3rd round picks that we get)

Agreed safety can come from draft - not sure about 6th round though

    262120

I will have to disagree and move on. Your version of spending our cap money is watering down the Bills overall talent by spreading the cash as far out as it will go. To me thats a downfgrade and I think a team this close needs a few studs, not the cheaper by the dozen version.

  14. I do think a deal get's done for Shelton.  I just don't think it involves Henry.  The problem there is he is a straight salary of 3 mill for 4 more years.  That is a big chunk of our cap space.  They are going to need to clear some more up (Prioleau, Wire, and Henry).  Maybe force Williams to restructure.

No I don't believe we saved anything with Drew being cut.  Sure it saved 2 million now on the cap, but we need a solid backup QB, and guess what that is probably going to take most of the 2 million to do so.

    262108

3 mil for your version of our starting LT eats up too much cap space? Have you looked at what starting LT's get paid?

Sorry man, but inflation has happened I feel like your stuck in the 1997 salary cap year with you rnumbers.

  15. When we still don't have a LT, or a vet QB to backup Losman?  Yes

I see us getting a 3rd QB in the draft, later rounds

We probably draft our backup RB (GORE) in the 4th round or so

We still need a solid TE

    We may need a kicker

We need a LG and LT

We need a #2 corner, IMHO

    We probably draft another DT

We may need another WR depending on Reed and Aiken

We need LB depth seriously (either FA or high draft picks)

With 2 safeties likely gone we need one.

We are a long way from a solid team.

With only about 5 million in real FA money, then yes, let's not blow it all on 1 left guard.

    262096

QB backup can be had at vet minimum

    Backup RB exists in Shaud

Solid TE is Campbell, stud is someone like Franks

We have a K, stud would be nice but not necessary, Nuge in the 3rd, fine

LG, probably our 2nd rounder Baas, Brown, or Brooks

McGee is just fine as our #2 CB, but Id love to land Law for the right price

WR can come fron the draft

LB depth can come from the draft

backup S, how about Diamond Ferri in the 6th

So, 8 of the 9 can be filled for vet minimum or the draft. That leaves 1 spot, LT to spend your coin on. If you want to spend you rmoney on a LG and then draft a T, hey fine.

See my stolen post above, the guy really makes the point.

  16. Okay even if true, which I don't think is, Rivera who is Mayberrys age and is a RG got a 5 year 20 million dollar deal.  That 4 million per.

Again we don't have the cap space.

    262102

Well, it was only a matter of time until someone opened the flood gates of the "we dont have the cap money" posts. You win the prize. How much have we spent so far? Thanks!

  17. Justin1006 wrote this earlier today. I'm baffled that it's fallen to the 3rd page already. The fact that it has is proof that, sadly, a lot of people here are posting nonsense and over-reacting.

Justin1006 nailed it here guys... Please dont post again until you've read and understand the reality of this masterpiece.

Try real hard to stay focused. Read every word. Then read them all again.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Since March 1st, every reactionary arm chair GM has shown their ignorance by complaining about TD and the Bills lack of action during the first few days of free agency. Why?

Look at our current roster. What big name free agents do the Bills need?

    QB-Losman

    RB-McGahee

    FB-Shelton

    WR-Moulds

    WR-Evans

    TE-Campbell

    LT-?

    LG-Tucker

    C-Teague

    RG-Villarial

    RT-M.Williams

    RDE-Schobel

    DT-Adams

    DT-Edwards

    LDE-Kelsay

    SLB-Posey

    MLB-Fletcher

    WLB-Spikes

    CB-Clements

    CB-McGee

    FS-Vincent

    SS-Milloy

The qualifications, in my book, for a starting position that could be upgraded via free agency, are any position that is filled with a player who did not start last year (DT), was lost to free agency (LT), or did not perform at a starting level (LG).

LT: Jennings was the only starter on the market and his value was extremely inflated. Three options remain: draft, trade, convert a FA RT. Not much for the Bills to work with here and if they are still planning on utilizing FA, its best to let the price tags of the remaining RTs drop. Notice, no team is publicly pursuing any of the top RTs.

LG: The market is loaded at this position with top talent still remaining. Again, the longer a team waits the further the price tag drops. Additionally, there are many impact LGs in the draft and this could very well be our top pick.

DT: Pat Williams departure was planned for last season with the drafting of Tim Anderson who will platoon with another young, talented player in Ron Edwards. Bringing in a starter via FA, would further bury the two on the depth chart. Since we have comparable talent already, why not save money for other concerns?

As you can see, there aren't many holes for TD to fill in our starting roster. This is because he already has filled these holes. Adams, Fletcher, Posey, Spikes, Milloy, & Vincent are all free agent acquisitions. We should celebrate their standing on our team rather than complain about the need to unwrap another upper eschelon FA every season.

So we have three "holes" at starting positions: LT, LG, & DT. We should only be looking for depth at DT. LG will likely come from a strong rookie crop. And Henry has yet to be traded which should fill one of these holes, preferably the LT spot which leaves few FA options. So what else could we be looking for in FA? If you see the logic above, there is only one answer: depth.

For those who are still frustrated that TD didn't immediately snatch up some players to add depth, I would like to know which teams have? Depth is not add in the first few days of FA. This is why the period is referred to as a marathon and not a sprint. A player's value declines with every day so WAIT, fill these holes, and save money because the same people who are screaming for TD to sign a FA will be those screaming at TD if there is no money left to offer Clements a contract extension.

So what would constitute a successful offseason? This is my FA wishlist:

1.starting LT: only options are an older stop gap player or a young RT to convert to the left side

    2.second string QB

    3.third string QB

    4.second string LT

    5.third or fourth string CB

    6.third or fourth string DT

7.third string TE?: depending on the health of Campbell and Euhus

FA is a tool of parity, begun in the aftermath of the Bills four Superbowl appearances, to help poor teams fill many holes in an offseason. Be happy that we are not jumping into free agency because we do not have the need. Have the Pats signed any gamebreaking players? The Steelers? Colts? But they have lost Ty Law and Plaxico Burress, etc. Players who are not worth the money they were scheduled to receive a la Jonas Jennings or even Pat Williams whose hometown discount did not come as advertised.

    -----------------------------------

I do not agree with a stop gap or convert at LT. I think this position is WAY too important to merely "patch" especially with a young QB, But he is ON the money with the rest of this. I must admit that I feel "schooled".

Now, I dont think you sit pat with cap cash and let upgrades at non-need postions go either. You have cap cash, use it. Maybe that TD's view. He feels very good about what he has and feels he can get a cheaper LT, and draft a LG. Then let FA come to him and pick up studs at non-need positions. I like this because I believe that we rae not far away from the playoffs and beyond and adding a few studs can put us there.

Ty Law fits the non-need stud category and with the Milloy factor and his age, I think he can be had for a lot less than Lucas. Right now today, he is better than Lucas. Furthermore, this lessens the blow if Clements leaves next year. Law, Clements, Vincent, Milloy!!!!!!!!!!! Holy sh_t kids!!!

  18. I saw this somewhere yesterday.

But won't he be pretty expensive, especially for a guard?  I know Andruzzi signed cheap, but I think Mayberry is looking for close to Wahle numbers.

    262086

are you seriously keeping a tight cinch on the Bills purse strings when we have signed NO ONE and the very good G are getting signed?

Look, If we arent willing to blow almost all our cap cash on a big LT trade and then fill our G need with our top draft pick, we better use our cap cash on some bigger name players!

This team is a few studs out of the the playoffs and beyond.

More for less, we be less for the Bills!

  19. Remember what happened with Troy Vincent? Remember how long it took for TRoy to finally sign with us?

What if the Bills are basically making a very quiet monster deal for a LT right about now and are keeping it tight to the vest so as to keep other teams out of the bidding war. Maybe its such a huge deal that it will simply take time to get it all worked out and done.

Could it be Orlando Pace? (rumored to be on the trading block). The trade would not be for Henry (they dont need him), but more likely draft picks (considerable) and a player (not sure who). Obviosuly, this is nothing more that a pipe dream by me, but what would it take to complete a deal like that in you rminds? We would have to leave Travis out of it. Heres my idea:

How about trading Chris Kelsay, and our 2nd rounder this year plus a 1st next year. Seemes like too much, how about Kelsay, a 2nd this year and a 2nd next year.

Again, no clue on the player or pick package. Give me your thoughts.

  20. that we can get right now for less than 1.25 million that are better than Travis Henry.

I can immediately think of, oh, approximately, none.

    261716

Dont need a guy as good as Travis as a backup, Shaud Williams steps in and we are just fine for a while.
