When you typed " brown-skinned !@#$ " I took the !@#$ part to mean some some of malicious feeling on the part of the police, as in they saw him as a !@#$ because he is brown skinned. I agree that it is possible that race played a role in this but it is FAR from certain. The police were not the ones who carded him in the first place. It is stated in the article that carding after 11:30 is standard practice and well known. How are we to discern how many other people were carded that night and if they were Iranian? We can't. You didn't say that race was the only reason, but every reason you listed was cop related. Even when you said you put the onus on the cops. Come on. Your specific remedy wasn't bad. It would be intersting to have seen how he would have reacted.
-
This post clearly shows that you feel racism is the root cuase. It is certainly possible that racism came into play, but there is absolutely no way of discerning that from the evidence shown. I feel this shows a lack of objectivity on your part. He was Iranian (not an advantageous ancestry in 2006). After that, everything else seems like something he could have changed without any difficulty whatsoever. He was being a prick before the cops got there and after they got there. He could have easily diffused the situation. If he went back to his room and got his id like everyone else and came back, we're all done. The cops never even come. He didn't. The cops arrived after there already was a situation. He screamed at them at the top of his lungs and did not do what they asked. Roll cell phone viseo. We come in during the middle of an altercation. He's still not doing what they ask. He got tazed. He screams Patriot Act, still doesn't leave and got tazed some more. From this you concluded.....it's all because he has brown skin. Maybe more tazing was not the right option. What would be? If the rest of the video showed them dragging him out instead of more tazing, would that be better in your eyes? If not, what would? Seriously, specifically, what would have been better? I'm not with you on your conclusion. I actually find it a bit sad that someone with your intellect sees this as a racist incident with 100% certainty as it appears you do.
-
I agree with you here except for calling people lunatics. The video I saw looked like it might have come from some other random kid's cell phone. It can't be a surprise in this age that anything could be filmed.
-
Are you the same guy that posted they might have harassed him because he is Iranian and maybe he couldn't move because he was incapacitated by the tazing in this very same thread? How are those things different?
-
What should they have done and for hong long?
-
Because he was of Iranian descent. That's why they tazed him. All the cops are out to get him. Woe is him. If his name was Jones they would have tazed the librarian because they were roaming around campus looking for someone to taze. Why do you think they did it? What are you suggesting? Seriously, why do you think they did it? What should they have done and how long should they have done it for before tazing was the best choice available or at least a reasonable choice?
-
Of course that would depend on the setting of the device and various other factors uncited in any report about this incident. Why are you supposing that this guy was immobilized? When asked to stand while immobilized, which is the more logical response? A - "I would stand but I can't move" or B - "This is your Patriot act" There is no indication whatsoever in this report, or on tape that the guy was unable to move after being tazed. It is pretty clear that he was mobile pre-tazing. He didn't leave then either.

John Edwards is against Wal-Mart
OGTEleven replied to SilverNRed's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Edwards wanted no part of this so he sent a volunteer Another video I had to turn off half way through. They are interviewing this guy and his brother. "I was pushed" says the guy, "If it were just a raffle this wouldn't have happened" says his brother. Clearly, this was 100% Wal Mart's fault. It's not like the guy could have opted not to participate. Who could have? I mean it was a PS3 on the line. -
How about if he left when he was first asked before the police were called? How about if he when the police first arrived? How about if he left after one of the first 100 times the police asked him before he was tased? How many friggin times should they need to ask this idiot? If he does not do what they say, what should they do? Taze him or offer to take him to Friendly's for a sundae? You stated that they could have taken a little more time and calmed things down. You completely failed to take into account that before the filming even began, the moron had been asked leave, he didn't. The police came (after however long it took them to arrive) and presumably spoke with him for at least a few seconds before the filming began. When the filming began the first sound you hear is the guy screaming "Don't touch me" at the top of his lungs. Who was it that was escalating the situation? When he is tazed the first time he goes on a "Patriot Act" "Abuse of power" tirade, again at the top of his lungs. What, if any reason did the police have to believe him? He was saying he would comply, not complying and screaming political slogans at them. Do you think the police officers woke up that morning wanting that to happen? Do you think he did? Odds are neither wanted it. If one party did, which party do you think it was? Using the phrase "to wit" in a post where you type a series of dumb things does not make the post look smarter. Where did you get your 40% statistic on cops overusing force and needlessly brutalizing people? Was that one straight out of your a$$? Are all of these cops dumb because they did not go to UConn like the genious that is you? Attack the police in these situations for the benefit of society? Comparing these guys to the friggin SS? You are in real need of perspective.

John Edwards is against Wal-Mart
OGTEleven replied to SilverNRed's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Well, he was on a con call the same day bashing Wal-Mart. I suppose there is a good chance tht Wal-Mart fed the story to the ultra right wing, liberal hating AP. All's fair in love and war. There are a lot of components in a PS3. I wonder if Edwards has ever bashed/sued one of those component manufacturers. IBM, Sony, Plastics, memory chips. These things are all evil and/or big corporations. He isn't raising his kids right if they want to own a device made through the sweat of the proletariat like this. -
Conversely when told to leave, you leave, you don't stand/sit there saying I'm leaving.....I'm leaving.....I'm leaving when, (in the first three minutes of the tape alone ---- I couldn't take anymore) the police told him to leave at least 100 times. Yet, he was still there. How many times should he have to be told to leave?

This is not what being a Bills fan is about
OGTEleven replied to duey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What gets me here is that the lawyers are going after the Bills organization. Call me paranioid if you want but that is what is really in play here. It is what makes this different than the usual brawl. Drunken morons beating up innocents (and/or opposing drunken morons) happens very often in every sporting venue in the US. That doesn't make it right, but it can't be denied. Now a Boston attorney is suing the Bills organization? The same Bills organization that is fighting the small market battle versus a leader of the big market (Kraft)? Right. No Boston attorney has sued the Patriots because of fights in their parking lot? There haven't been any fights in the Patriots parking lot? The Boston Herald is enlisted and calls Buffalo fans "New York fans"? LOL. These guys should try stopping at an eastbound Thruway rest area with a Bills jersey on after a NE game. Can I sue the Thruway system? I've seen enough Patriots fans at the Ralph to know that as a group they are looking for a fight. That doesn't mean this guy was or wasn't but the large group that busses in from Boston every year is generally loud, crass, drunk, and stupid. If the beating was as one sided as the church going Bostonian angel portrays then the Bills mob deserves stiff punishment. I find that possible but unlikely. I am sure there were plenty of outrageously obnoxious Pats fans roaming around. Why pick on one guy innocently using a port o john? If it was two sided then the church going angel should be punished as well. He should be able to sue them if he can prove it was one sided. -
Ethan Albright, worst rated player on Madden 07
OGTEleven replied to jdubs's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Jon Dorenbos was actually rated lower, but instead of writing a nasty letter he just made himself disappear from the game. -
Hard to argue that. All three are owned by the al-Maktoum family. They have spent a REDICULOUS amount of money in this year's yearling sales as well- they are looking to take over American horse racing and dominate the major races. Hard to leave Lava Man out of that group, but hard to replace any one of those three. Looking at speed numbers, Lava Man has certainly been slower than Bernarini this year, but he's still 7-for-7 against mostly Grade I talent. He has torched the California competition, but his performances have not been exceptional outside of Cali. Nonetheless, he has found a way to win. I expect they ship him to Churchill well before the BC to make sure he's acclimated. Lava Man will have to run an amazing race to beat Bernardini (and Invasor for that matter) but I'll be pulling for him. 802782[/snapback] I'll take a shot at arguing it although I like all three horses. 1. Bernardini - No argument at all. It will be interesting to see him if/when he is pushed. I won't bet against him. 2. Discreet Cat - I liked his chances in the Derby if he came over (he didn't). With that said, he has not been pushed at all. There is a good chance he will falter against top competition. 3. Henny Hughes - Great sprinter but I've seen a million top sprinters falter late in the season. Lost in the Fog did just last year. Anybody remember a horse named Groovy? Trust me, Henny Hughes has not yet done half of what Groovy did. Groovy faltered in the BC. The BC Sprint will be grueling. Henny may hold up but there is usually money to be made on a closer rounding into sprint form (Greeley's Galaxy?) In any event, I am hard pressed to ever put a sprinter in the top 3.

No doubt those two were great but top to bottom of the 3YO division, I'll go with 1987. I went to the Travers that year. All of the following were in it: Java Gold (winner) Alysheba Bet Twice Gulch Cryptoclearence Polish Navy Temperate Sil Gulch had an entrymate that was a rabbit. I think that was the whole field.

I don't really see any problem with him entering into the LLC, but it seems to me that he should have reported it. It is a rule. He should know the rule and bend over backwards to live up to it. He has himself to blame for this becoming a story. IMO, I see no problem with the way property taxes were handled. I'm not real big on all the re-zoning stuff that appeared to take place and increase the value of the land. I can't say I see something illegal, just the kind of crap that goes on with all of these clowns on both sides. -
I'm older than the people who have posted so far. Here is my list: Java Gold Easy Goer Coquistador Cielo Personal Ensign Unbridled

I was more asking for thoughts about Reid and his actions (and/or inactions) than I was about democrats or republicans in general. I realize that politicians (in general) pull this kind of stuff often. Reid is pretty high ranking. This report has a pretty high level of detail. Do the dems on the board think it is simply a repub dirty trick? Even if it is, should Reid face consequences? Do the repubs think the press will help bury this unlike the Foley thing? Personally, I find it as unsurprising as I would if the same article were published about a prominent repub. Maybe there'll be one of those next week. Either way, way a dirt bag is exposed, we should hold him accountable. -
Thanks for the link GG. I just listened and didn't really get too much out of it in terms of "bizarre". It was basically the same interviewing style they had with Polian after the Colts playoff loss: "Bill, can't you admit that Manning sucks under pressure" "How can you say he doesn't suck" "But basically, he sucks, right?" To me it just seemed like Lidle said something he shouldn't, albeit a single sentence in what was probably a long interview, and these guys were making a federal case out of it. I didn't get a read of some underlying problem with Lidle's psyche based on that phone call.
-
I doubt this means anything but I spoke with my mom this afternoon when I heard. She is a big Yankee fan. She said Lidle gave a very strange, almost incoherent at times, interview on Mike and the Mad Dog yesterday or the day before. She said Lidle was not really answering their questions and seemed strange and ended up hanging up on them. The hosts of the show didn't know what to make of the whole episode. I didn't hear it and I'm not sure it relates, but it does seem odd. I will say not having heard it that maybe it was on M&MD. I've heard them antagonize people before. I remember Bill Polian hanging up on them and they proceeded to call his beahavior bizzare.

It might as well be me. Your thoughts?
