  1. Myself personally, I don't think you will find a GM out there that could possibly have more of an insight on the person and player of Auburns biggest Tiger, Cameron Newton. Buddy Nix's comment "Cam has been a good leader everywhere he's been" should squash any doubts of Newtons leadership abilities. Nix also squashed the rest of the negative comments made by the most recent outlandish attack on Newtons character.

At 6' 6" 248 Lbs, Newton is a mountain of a man at the QB position. Blessed with the speed and rushing skills of OJ Simpson, Cam rushed for 1,473 yards and scored over 20 TD's on the ground, 30 passing TD's and even had a spectacular highlight reel receiving TD in tight coverage. Newtons 603 yards rushing over a three game span were the most for an Auburn player in a three game stretch since RB Bo Jackson in 1985. Newton also broke Jim Sidles SEC rushing record for a Quarterback, Newton is the 1st QB in SEC History to throw for 2,000 and rush for 1,000 yards in a season. Cam Newton also finished the season with a sparkling 182 QB rating and led the Nation with over 10 yards per pass play average. (1st down per pass play average.)

Undefeated , Heisman, National Champ, I'm not sure anyone in the history of College Football has ever accomplished as much in one season as Cam Newton. The kid throws the team on his shoulders, marches to the Championship everywhere he goes, and then wins it.

Buddy Nix knows what he's got with Newton (hell on wheels) and Nix will draft Cam If he's available at number #3 in my opinion.

No way Nix passes on Cam Newton, no way...

    you convinced me

  2. Assuming the state of the NFL does not change by the time the draft begins, and there is no free agency until after the draft. What is your assessment of the teams weaknesses and what would your plan be to become a contender in the division? What style of team would you look to build given the players currently under contract?

Offensively, If I was Buddy nix, I would look to build the team into becoming the #1 rushing team in the league. The teams biggest offensive strength potentially is having the combo of CJ Spiller and Fred Jackson. As I look at the OL, I see promising depth in the interior, and by adding an OT through the draft, I would figure the line to be a very strong unit heading into 2011. I would like to see the starting line include a rookie RT drafted in rd 2 or 3 with upside to move to the left side eventually, as well as Eric Wood starting at C. Scott Chandler provides the team with a potentially mauling run blocker at the TE position and while grabbing a top notch TE in this draft seems attractive, I would probably look to free agency to grab another potential run blocking TE. Nelson is in his make or break season, lets give him the chance. Corey McIntyre is a perfect fit at fb since Chan really doesn't utilize a blocking FB as much as he needs his FB to be a Special teams ace. Clearly the Bills like Corey. At WR the Bills are set but I would not rule out drafting a big physical target if someone was to slide into rd 3. But don't look for another Easley pick since he is like a bonus 4th rd pick this year. He really turned heads in minicamps and Chan Gailey is pleased with the Wr position and so am I.

Defensively, I would ignore all the statistics from the prior year and stick to the long term plan here. Chris Kelsay and the lack of another run stopping MLB are the main 2 reasons why they have the Bills run the hybrid 3/4 - 4/3 front. But with Shawn Merriman expected to finally be fully recovered and Paul Poslusny expected back the bills are not as thin at the LB position as last season. I fully expect Arthur Moats to win the opposite Starting OLB spot from Merriman, and Kelsay will be able to provide valuable depth at OLB and still has some pass rush ability in the nickle and dime 4 man fronts that Buffalo will continue to utilize. The front four will be improved simply by the release of aging and innefective DT/DE Marcus Stroud. Troup seems to get it. He is working his tail off and seems to be aiming to be the starting DT in 2011. Dwan Edwards is a super solid run defending DE and could handle either RDE or LDE in the current system. I like Edwards, Troupe, and Kyle Williams moving to LDE. Carrington is a perfect fit for the 3rd DE position since they can rotate Williams inside often. Adding a draft pick along the line is key and he needs to be 275-320 lbs. The Bills are only one DE away from having a solid Defensive Line as long as Buddy Nix is confident in his decisions from lasy year. A MLB is definately needed, but I do not buy into needing a physically large player there. But instead a player that is "BIG" against the run. Someone that relishes taking on a FB or C head on. That would play to the strengths of the team and allow Pos more room to do what he does best and pursue the ball. Lack of depth in the defensive backfield is a problem and If I were Buddy Nix, I would feel confident in the starting unit if it has to be McGee, Byrd, Wilson, and McKelvin, Corner is fine for a slot/nickle cb and Scott allows some depth at the safety position. Drafting a young SS is not a bad idea if Whitner is not resigned. Luckily, for the Bills there is a large number of free agent CB available and I believe it will be a buyers market for a handful of young players looking to come out of the shadows of a long term starter on another team. Look for free agency to add a CB.

So If I was drafting, and Cam Newton was available at #3 I would look at him as potentially being able to help the offense have the #1 overall rushing ranking, and If I were to draft him I would also not hesitate to draft a OT in the top of the second rd. I would consider the offense done at this point and focus primarily on the defensive side of the ball from here on out. If I decided to pass on Cam Newton or if he is not available, I would probably hold off on the QB position until the 3rd rd and take a flyer on Colin Kaepernick or Jake Locker given their ability to extend plays and the obvious need to sit a year. Cam Newton has a package that he can play in as a rookie, and could potentially score a lot of red zone td with his size and natural running ability. Christian Ponder is another option in rd 2 and as GM for a weekend, I do not pass on a potential backup to Fitz unless the draft requires a massive reach. If I did not take Newton, I think that Marcel Dareus is a fine choice to turn our DL into a completely dominant unit, and strength of the team for 4 years. If a qb is not the choice, I would surely draft Dareus or trade out of the pick to aquire more top notch draft picks. An ILB is a important part of my draft plan and would hope that rd 4 can supply a quality starter for the next 10 years. As I see it, my long term plan is to draft Cam Newton in the 1st, a Top notch OT in the second, DE/DT in the 3rd, ILB in the 4th, DB in the second 4th, and best player available 5th 6th and 7th. Or Dareus in the 1st, Ponder or OT in the 2nd, Kaepernick, Locker, or OT in the 3rd, and ILB in the 4th, with DB following closely, with best player available from there on out.

    What is your assessment/plan?

  3. My take on the situation is the exact opposite - - here's why:

    1. With occasional exceptions, the Bills have generally not been big spenders in the free agent market. While peoople who live in Buffalo certainly can make a case for it being a good place to live, most of the country, who only know what the media tells them about the place, don't share that view. While I'm hopeful that we can end the play-off drought soon, our team won 4 games last season. If you are a good player and have several offers, why would you choose to play for a team with a bad record in a city that gets bad press? Sure, you can point out exceptions in specific cases where free agents have come to Buffalo, but I think we are at a competitve disadvantage in the free agent market.

    2. If there's no free agency before the draft, teams will be forced to put a higher than usual premium on filling needs in the draft this year. That's potentially very good for us. We need front 7 defensive talent, and I keep reading that this year's draft is deep at those positions. That means if we trade down a few spots, we can still get the type of front 7 talent that would usually be gone by then. But you need a willing trade partner to move down. With no free agency to shore up weak spots before the draft, there should be more teams willing to trade up. That's especially true at QB this year. Most of what I read says that Gabbert and Newton are the two best QB's this year, and there is a fairly sharp drop-off in talent after them. Denver took Tebow in the first round last year, so they are unlikely to draft a QB at #2 now. So either Gabbert or Newton will probably still be on the board when the Bills are on the clock at #3. I keep reading that Carson Palmer says he will retire rather than play for Cinci, so lots of teams will expect Cinci to be interested in a QB at #4. It doesn't get much better than that if you want to trade down from #3, because it sure seems like most teams that trade up in the first half of round 1 do it to take a QB early.

    3. I'd be happy if we traded down a few spots, took the best remaining front 7 defender, and got a few extra picks in the process. If free agency starts before the draft, somebody willing to trade up to #3 might fill whatever need they have in free agency, and we lose a prospective trade down partner. Our only competitve disadvantage in the draft is the historically poor performance of our scouts/decision makers, which I have great hope will be improved over the recent past.

How do you see it the other way?

Thats the way I would like to see the draft go as well. Although I don't think that free agency has a whole lot ot do with that. There is no Newton or Gabbert available in free agency. Lets just say that your opinion of if Buffalo is attractive enough to sign a guy like Jenkins is somewhat irrelevent to the fact that every offseason they make at least one decent name signing. There are Big names out there. But Lets face the facts.. The bills have a whole bunch of holes that could be possibly filled, the most attractive thing for some guys are a team that believes in him, playing time, and compensation. Now the draft choices are supposedly getting paid less now. And free agents stand to really take it to teams that don't shore up the team needs through the draft. Just think how much signing Cullen Jenkins would not only change things pre draft but how much more he can get from a team that is desperate after the draft, further reducing the chances to sign a guy. Who wants to be unemployed when your job pays millions? I personally think trading down and adding more picks is a wonderful plan and No matter if free agency begins and we fill some needs first or not, that pick will still hold the same value if the team trading up is doing so for Newton or Gabbert.. Can we post the upcoming free agents list on here? They are going to court this week

  4. I was looking at the potential free agents this year and the list is as big as the players available through the draft. There are many quality free agents available at every position this year. I'd like to see the bills sign Bruce Gradkowski to backup Fitz if they pass or miss out on the qb they want. I think he is a Pittsburgh guy so why not? There are several bigtime players that fit the system well. James Jones from Green Bay could be a bigtime wr if he had the chance to start. Cullen Jenkins is another potential target from Green Bay for the vacant LDE spot due to the release of Stroud. There is a deep class of Offensive lineman that could upgrade the RT situation or at least add competition, gaither being a popular name. Can someone post the upcoming free agents? I'm not familiar with the copyright stuff so if you could do that please do here. Here is to hoping free agency opens up before the draft and that these mock drafts that we are all spending too much time reading will be totally different!

  5. I am completely appalled by some of the people here that want him. I would become a steeler fan the day we traded for that loser. I have met him and hated him then. I dated a girl that lived with a girl he used to "mess around with" and she told me that he thinks that he is irresistable to every woman. He is the biggest loser I have ever met hands down and I would puke if the bills grabbed him. Pittsburgh is trying so hard to rid themselves of this trash and you want him. Unbelievable. I lose total respect for every single one of you that would welcome him

  6. How many of us actually day dream about working in the front office? I know I do! I have been in the war room, locker room, and in the fieldhouse. I have seen it all, eaten with them, and I sure wish I had a lick of credentials to apply for a scouting job or assistant ball boy whatever... I would like to contact Chan Gailey anyone have his number? ha ha! no seriously anyone? oh boy that is so funny, but only cause its true

  7. I love how fans include themself in the decision making process. People who say We when referring to the Bills make me laugh.

You clearly don't go to the games.. I think that once you own season tickets you will feel different. Not about the decision making process but I feel it is quite natural to feel connected to something so special

  8. Actually, he was, until he got sick: http://blogs.nfl.com/2008/09/03/infection-...b-in-baltimore/

To clear up another misconception in this thread, the tender is a fifth-round pick, not a third. For that relatively low price, I'd think about taking a look at him.

You stole the words right out of my mouth. I would be thrilled to have him for a 5th rd pick and I believe that between him Brohm and Trent a quality QB could emerge this season. Why not? He won the starting job and had a freak illness. Baltimore is a great team and Ozzie Newsome is a great GM. Smith wants out and he tabbed him with a 5th not because he sucks but because he will get that for him easy. He is essentially granting him his wish and getting what he can for him.. Do it

  9. LT- Bell

    LG- Levitre

    C- Hangartner

    RG- Wood

    RT- Incognito

Meredith will be the backup T and Simmons will be the backup G...

That is my guess if we don't draft an OT in rd 1 which is very very possible.

I wouldn't mind this line for a year as long as Bell progressed. He is a superb athlete. As good an athlete as any OL in the draft. He has my confidence. I also like Meredith and wouldn't mind him in a pinch. Incognito was drafted as a OT and had some of the best workouts ever at the combine. He is a good player as well. Lets hope the change of location is what he needed.

  10. No doubt. You would think it would be a cinch to win a 3 team/10 point teaser. That's where you can get 10 additional points against the spread whichever way you choose in three games. All three games have to win (one tie causes a loss). But it's not as easy as it may seem.

The safest way to double your money is to fold it in half and keep it in your pocket.

Well said Gambling is a bad thing. I bet a little. Small time. It is a bad habit. I feel right now that I need to put money on the game since I only have 10 dollars bet on a parlay... BBBad News. Don't start. Or should I say don't win big early. Its like chasing the dragon or whatever... Big wins are few and far between. But for now I'm sticking to 10 dollar bets. If you are gonna bet don't lose more money than you can afford and you better plan on losing everything you are gonna bet!

  11. Looking at todays games, there's point spread, money line, and total.

    For example....

    Baltimore

    point spread

+4(-115) If you bet Balt+4(-115) you take ravens to win or come within 4 pts and bet 115 to win 100

    Money line

+165 If you take ravens money line you take ravens to win straight up and 100 dollar bet wins 165

    New England

    point spread

-4(-105) If you take New england-4(-105) you need patriots to win by at least 4 and bet 105 to win 100

    money line

-190 If you take pats money line you need them to win and you need to bet 190 to win 100

    Total

43(-110)o Total combined scores over 43 bet 110 to win 100

43(-110)u Total combined scores under 43 bet 110 to win 100

What is the (-115), (-105) after the point spread? What is Money Line? What is the (-110) for the total?

If you tie it is a wash. Like you never made the bet, for example if you bet balt+4 and parlayed that with over 43 and the final score was pats 24-20 you would tie the balt game and win the over bet. Your payout is likely to be much higher on a parlay but this circumstance would reduce that bet to a single straight bet and would pay -110 to 100...

Another example would be if you only bet Pats -4 and they won 24-20 you would get your money back and it would be as if you never bet... But they could win 23-20 and you would lose because you are giving ravens 4 pts. That is why the money lines are there, it is for people who would rather win more or less by not using point spread

  12. I have been comparing teams since last week when someone asked which team is most like the bills.

We are the Washington Redskins of the AFC without the bonehead spending... That being said, I haven't posted lately so I'll share my opinion about the season and the future:

    Edwards definately not the guy

    Jauron def fired, parrish cut

Reed, Youboty, and T.O. will not be re-signed

Line will pan out next year... As will Hardy and Nelson

Defense is good, it is the PERFECT compliment to an effective no huddle offense.

No Huddle isn't providing an advantage because of Trent and the line but mainly trent

Byrd is the real deal at FS and Whitner will be back to SS for keeps

Defense can make a seemless transition to a 3-4 next year in needed. Schobel and Maybin (both 250lbs) at OLB and Poz and Mitchell inside??? Stroud is a beast at nose and Williams and Johnson could play LE as well as DT, Kelsey and Denney can play RE in a 3-4

Bottom line: Need a QB rd 1 this draft! This team is talented and if the bills are smart they will add competition to Trent next year and make him earn an extension that I don't think is happening.

How many fans have already kissed this season Goodbye?

  13. I feel if you dislike Jauron, it tells me everything I need to know to know that you are somebody that I could never be friends with. I love the forum, its for fans... I highly doubt I'm in the minority in thinking very highly of Jauron. Anyone that is not optimistic about the bills right now is just not healthy mentally. Especially if your sole reason for your pathetic wining and child like opinions is because you have some ego problem about Jauron. If you think that there has been enough talent to be in the playoffs, and Jauron has been blowing it, you have a lot to learn about football. Its not college football... I can't think of a single team that has won a superbowl with a guy like JP Losman at QB??? The Bills haters on this board have really really really made it not worth my time to post. Its like a select few Patriot fans get off on posting on our board... WTF? I just don't understand why anyone would be so miserable that they feel that they have nothing better to do than post negative comments on a FAN board... GEEZ people, I'm ashamed of you, I know I'll never find myself sitting next to you at a game, because real fans don't think like that

  14. Sorry, but you're overlooking one HUGE important factor...the head coach. He's the proverbial dragging anchor of the Bills team for this otherwise very promising group of young talented players. He could not even coach them a winning season with the easiest schedule in recent memory, and looking at this years schedule it's easy to see a 5 or 6 win season dead ahead mainly because of Dick Jauron. Young players, even talented ones, can't overcome bad coaching against the good teams. I see 2010 as the season when we return to the playoffs after hiring a REAL head coach.

I disagree very strongly. I think that Jauron is an amazing man and he is a top 5 coach in the NFL. He will get his due. Amongst his peers he is one of the most highly respected men in the game. If you, or I could be half the man that he is you could call yourself successful. He is accountable for everything he has ever done bad or good. He is honest, smart, trustworthy, and is very organized. Not many head coaches call plays on either side of the ball. I think you are hating on the wrong guys if you want to hate the offense or the defense. Dick allows his coaches to coach. The head coach is a motivator, and organizer. He needs to draw respect from his players and his peers. Dick Jauron is everything I ever want from my head coach. Hopefully, our coordinators improve. Vastly
