Greg, Waterloo, Ontario: KC, straight up, who is the better receiver, Lee Evans or Kevin Curtis, and why?SportsNation KC Joyner: Lee Evans, hands down. I like Kevin Curtis but Evans has posted dominant deep pass metrics. I've said before that Evans has Hall of Fame talent that is being wasted in a bad offense. Curtis is good but not that good.
Todd (Detroit): Does your scout's eye ever disagree with your metrics? For example, some times do you watch a guy and see a lot of potential, but his metrics aren't able to bear that out?
SportsNation KC Joyner: Very good question, Todd. Yes the two do disagree and when they do I follow one rule: go with the metrics. The metrics tend to be right much more often than wrong and most of the time when I go with my scouting eye against the metrics, that's when I get burned!
Zach(San Diego): You mentioned Lee Evans, but are there any other players that have metrics that scream out superstar, but for some reason that player is stuck in mediocrity?
SportsNation KC Joyner: No one off the top of my head but your question does give me the idea of doing an overrated/underrated article in the next few weeks.
Murph (San Diego): Yeah, no second year slump for Cutler?! He really tore it up last year. I can see why you'd think he'd have a great year and Rivers would struggle.
SportsNation KC Joyner: Murph, the big difference between the two is that Cutler didn't have the fall off that Rivers did. A big part of that could be Cutler's not playing a full season, so he'll also have to answer if he can handle a 16 game schedule.
Andrew (Syracuse, Ny): Lee Evans has 'hall of fame talent'? Are you kidding me? KC, I think you've had one too many.
SportsNation KC Joyner: Andrew, have you seen Evans' deep pass metrics the past few seasons? They have been off the charts. He's that good.
Andrew (Syracuse, Ny): Ok, I admit he's a great deep threat, but can you honestly say he's the total package? Are there not 10 other wideouts you'd take ahead of him? I agree with his talent level, but not that he'll end up as a Hall of Fame player.
SportsNation KC Joyner: Andrew, if I didn't know you were talking about Evans, I would have thought you described Randy Moss, at least from the deep threat only description. Evans is as good as Moss was in his prime, at least on deep passes, or he's darn close.

Do you do daily checks of the players weights or what?
I'm the guy at the circus who can look at you and determine what you weigh.
As for Schobel, he'll get back up to the 260 range before the season starts. Good to see everyone else add some weight, although I was surprised at Jason Peters being 340#. If he's mostly muscle, good god!

Sounds good in theory. The agent could just say "no extension" and dare the Bills to franchise him next year.

He would probably sign halfway between the Gore deal and the Thomas Jones deal. It wouldn't need to be huge money. Not more than they paid Langston Walker.
The only problem I could foresee is that his agent would know the Bills would want to sign him to a deal and not waste a 2nd rounder, so he might ask for the moon.

They can afford it, I would personally like them to and think he is worth it, I just don't predict it. The thing about him is I believe that if he were in the draft right now, he would be either second or third RB taken, and probably in the top 20 picks in the draft. So he is worth a #1 pick in a trade, although perhaps not the #12 pick.
Yep, I also think he'd be a mid-1st round pick if he came out in the draft. That's why I'd have no problem trading a 2nd. And IF the Bills DID trade a 2nd for him, knowing that they'd need to sign him to a long-term big-money contract, they'll likely scrap the "cash to cap" policy to some degree.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if Marv traded the Bills #1 for Turner. Marv has a very unconventional method of placing value on draft picks, players or positions. This does not come from Butler or Polian, they were much more interested in the chips than Marv is. But I do see one simialarity developing, Marv is building his defense cheap and interchangeable, just like Polian did with the Colts. That doesn't bode well if you don't want to see opponents rushing for 150-180 yards every week.
Good point. Better they spent half their cap surplus on a CB, kept an aging MLB and a likely-to-never-be-great-again OLB, just because they were expensive and/or not interchangeable.

Under the Bills cash policy they may not be able to afford an extension for Turner and a #12 pick.
It's a self-imposed policy. They can change it if they wish.

No way. San Diego has already said they wanted atleast one 1st round pick, if not two. They said something along the lines of maybe settling for a 1st and 2nd or an early 3rd. They really are asking too much for a guy who's never been a feature guy. They're trying to butt-rape somebody and Lord knows I hope the Bills don't bend over.
All talk. No one is going to give them ONE 1st rounder, much less more. The best they can hope for is a 2nd, unless Smith truly wants to keep him for the year, and then lose him for nothing next year.

The cool thing is it has a built-in chromatic tuner, noise gate, delay, tape echo, sweep echo, chorus/flange, phaser, and tremolo, to go along with reverb. Tons of presets by a bunch of guitarists as well. Can't wait for the footpedal with the wah/volume pedal!

Got my amp yesterday but got to it late and could only play it at low volume (kids). But I got the chance to turn it up today and that thing rocks! It makes me want to get back into a band big time. So far I've tracked-down a drummer (have yet to contact him), but the hardest part is finding a good singer.
BTW, anyone have any experience with EMG pickups? I bought an EMG 89 years ago that I installed. I like it, mostly because it has a coil splitter (humbucker to single coil), but it seems like it's lower output than I need for lead. Maybe I'm just being silly.

Well, those numbers are skewed by the fact that Kearse only played 4 games in 2002 and 2 last year. But I did read that Walker had the most sacks (or 2nd most) sacks by a DT over that time period.

I would agree, but ONLY if they trade down in round 1 and pick up another 2nd.
There is no rush.
I wouldn't trade down if Willis is their guy. Hell I'm not even sure he'll be there at 12, figuring the 49'ers will probably want him.

If the Bills somehow obtain Michael Turner...I hope someone creates a thread immediately after the deal is announced so that people can put their TBD reputation on the line and say whether they think the deal was worth it. No gray areas....no maybe this or maybe that....no ifs, ands or butts.
You would have to say regardless if what it took to sign him:
"YES! I love this deal....Turner will be a long term fanchise back!"
Or you have to say,
"This deal sucks, I hate Marv Levy."
I'll say right now that I'd take Turner for the Bills' 2nd rounder straight-up. If the Bills can get him for less, it's gravy. I agree that Turner will be better AND more proven than anyone they can get in the 2nd round, and I wouldn't pass-up Willis if he were there in the 1st.

Haven't read all the posts so apologies if someone has stated this already.
This trade has made fans on both sides happy, the players are happy with their new teams, the management must be happy (considering they made the trade). Why are we complaining and arguing. Addition of Spikes and Walker to their new teams makes both teams better. As of this moment, isn't this the best possible situation for all concerned ? We should bury the hatchet with the Philly fans and wish them luck till (and if) we meet them in the superbowl.
I think that most took exception to the characterization of the trade as a "heist" for Philly. Sorry but when you HOPE that a player can regain his Pro Bowl form prior to suffering a debilitating injury that most don't come back from, you didn't "steal" anything.

I know you'll think your team got the better end of the deal EWW, but given that Walker has the most sacks of any DT since becoming a starter and is NOT coming-off an injury, much less one that almost invariably robs players of their abilities, the Bills came out way ahead. Can't really say much about Holcomb's effect on the deal, since he'd have been 3rd string in Buffalo and is a far cry from Garcia as a backup. Time will tell, but that's how it stands right now.
And Winston Justice and Broderick Bunkley would NOT start for the Bills. Westbrook and McNabb yes.

Based on the last 2 years you are correct, Walker is the better player. Based on the two years before that, Spikes is by far the better player. We will only knowwho got the better of this deal after the next two years. Bills certainly got more of a known commodity, Eagles certainly got more potential. Disregarding of course the draft pick.
I don't know if I'd say the Eagles got more potential. Even without suffering an almost invariably talent-robbing injury, Spikes is on the wrong side of 30 and would have been on the downside of his career. It will be almost impossible for him to regain his pre-2005 form.

Well first of all, the revenue sharing plan was approved through the 2009 season. From what I recall, that's the first year that either side (owners or players) can decide to opt-out of the new CBA. If Ralph dies before then, I'm sure ownership will transfer to his wife, who wouldn't be forced to pay estate taxes. If he doesn't die before 2009, the owners will likely kill the new CBA.
Vow. This guys is giving the Bills lot of crap on the Chat...
