  1. Of course, we can always just dictate that they can't practice Koranic law when it violates the freedoms of others...except that then we're denying them freedom of religion. So which freedoms do you want to take away from them?
  2. In the immortal worlds of the classic Guiness commercials: BRILLIANT! A Tom Hanks and Eddie Murphy buddy flick directed by Steve Carr and produced by Spielberg. Best idea I've heard since the retatta...
  3. I agree, actually. But it still doesn't excuse bull sh-- reporting. Explain it, maybe, but not excuse it.
  4. Of course, that's the part that gets the least coverage in the media, as well. I mean, God forbid the press should cover the important constitutional and legal issues revolving around the the Miller and Cooper subpoena's and contempt charges. Their time's much better spent reporting the latest rumor of who told who what in which email...
  5. ...Daddy Day Care. But not that unrealistic Saving Private Ryan. That sucked...
  6. Likely so... ...of course, he can't be serial until he commits more than one crime. Which he can't do until he's released for the first one, which JSP's dead-set against it seems. Ergo, the seriality of the crime is ultimately irrelevent in his judgement...
  7. Illegal to state? No. But it's illegal to hire on that basis, if the person you hire is white...
  8. Generally, "sex offenders" covers a WIDE variety of crimes these days. Technically, the 19-year old guy with the 16-year old girlfriend is a sex offender...even if he's been dating her since he was 17. Travis Henry is a sex offender because he's an idiot who didn't ask for ID from a girl he picked up at a gas station (??? You're a football player, call an escort service you moron). A guy in Illinois is now a sex offender for something the sentencing judge admits was a completely non-sexual crime. Generally, people like that can be "rehabilitated" (or don't need any to begin with - the 19-year old will be "rehabilitated" when his girlfriend hits 18, Travis Henry will be "rehabilitated" when he learns not to be an idiot. The guy in Illinios will be "rehabilitated" when they fix their stupid laws.) So generally, saying 'sex offenders" cant be "rehabilitated" is an over-generalization. Now, if you're talking about serial sex offenders...then you're most likely right. But do you really want to advocate laws that lock up people for life for the crime of total stupidity or living in Illinois, just so you get the serial offenders?
  9. If you can't believe it, then you don't understand how the system works. The authorities do what the laws require. Don't like it...B word to the legislators and get the law changed.
  10. Unless you're with your wife 24/7, you can't protect her completely. Sounds like it's time for her to take a self-defense class. She does know that gouging out an eye is far more effective than a knee to the groin, right?
  11. Right...you hate the Catholic Church. Though it may or may not make you narrow minded...I wouldn't hold it against you. Of COURSE you believe your faith is the right one...why the hell would anyone hold to a faith they believe is wrong?
  12. Unless your wife is an 8-year old girl, I doubt she has much to worry about. She's probably out of this guy's age range. I forget, though, whether or not you have any kids at home. Personally, were I in your situation...I wouldn't worry too much about it. Certainly not to the degree that I'd go out and buy a gun. But then, I'm comfortable with my ability to protect my family without arming myself. If firepower's what makes you feel safe from child rapists, go right ahead...
  13. In other words, they don't hate the Catholic Church, they just hate the fact that it preaches Catholicism.
  14. Maybe it was just me, but I thought your point was kind of, well, obvious.
  15. "Swingin' on a Star". 5 minutes, 33 seconds. I don't think anyone (save maybe VABills) will ever mistake Hudson Hawk for a good movie. But it's so hokey, I actually find it entertaining. Still. I even have the DVD; I watch it every so often when I'm in the mood to shut off my brain.
  16. Hudson Hawk. I don't know why I like it...I just do. Andie McDowell on the Vatican's Secret Service cracks me up... And then, of course, there's Daddy Day Care. It doesn't get nearly the respect it deserves. I can't believe some people even think that awful and unrealistic Saving Private Ryan was actually better than Daddy Day Care...
  17. Uh-huh. Pay no attention to the fact that two of the biggest Islamic communities (i.e. hiding places) in the country are in Buffalo and Detroit. You know why you'll never see a major al Qaeda attack in either of those cities or Seattle? Because al Qaeda knows it'll bring an immediate security response, and those cities are too valuable as ingress points. Retarded. That's not even close to being factual.
  18. Chandra Levy has got to be the most quickly forgotten story to ever make front page above-the-fold headlines. Not inexplicable, obviously...but it shows what a clean break in public perception 9/11 caused. Just as recent nonsense (the Terry Schiavo death watch, for example), have showed how American cultural inanity has restored itself to 9/10 proportions...
  19. All seriousness now, that article indirectly brings up an important point: given how deeply the media is involved in this story, to what degree does anyone believe we can actually trust the media's reporting of the story? The media's well beyond any standard of objectivity by now...particularly so if they're filing amicus briefs to keep their sources from being reported in the courts while simultaneously accusing Rove of being the source. Edward R. Murrow is rolling in his grave...
  20. No, let's give it three more months of constant news coverage. At least we won't get some sort of meaningless bull sh-- impeachment proceedings at the end of it, since the President's party controls Congress this time around...
  21. Why even bother with nukes? There's only about four countries in the world the US couldn't utterly wreck with conventional forces.
  22. Sure. But if we're hit again in the fall...remember, THIS is how the country was encouraged to spend its summer...
  23. Look, we all know you're a militant anti-Islamic xenophobe who deals only in absolutes. Regardless of whether or not you use direct statements or unsubtle sarcasm, you don't have to prove it to us EVERY SINGLE DAY. And if you're going to recommend such things...don't be entirely surprised when your extremist counterparts in Islam nuke the Vatican, as well.
  24. Yeah...and how much of what gets reported comes from the prosecutor? How much of the spin- and damage-control going on right now comes from the prosecutor, rather than the PR people who otherwise would be publicizing other issuse? How much time is being spent discussing Time/Newsweek/Plame/Rove/Novak/Wilson/whoever else that could be better spent discussing something more important - like maybe toenail fungus?
